The Clan’s Number One Prodigy

“It won’t be long before the sun sets. You’ve already experienced such a severe misfortune today. Go and rest. You can start working tomorrow. Even if today is the worst day of your life for losing your entire family, don’t put your father’s sacrifice to waste. Continue to live on. Days of misfortune are inevitable in the life of a man. Your room is over there.”

Chun Jiangtu directed the young man to his room with the gesture of his hand. Several small rooms lined up along the hallway of the residences. The workers working for this residence probably occupied these rooms. Leng San cupped his hands and humbly bowed before walking towards his room. Once in the room, Leng San calmly observed the items provided for his stay, a mat, and a pillow. The situation did not bother Leng San, who came from a noble family, even one bit.

‘This is the start of my journey in this new place.’

After closing the door, Leng San plopped down and started circulating his qi.

“Freya, is there a way to recover my qi?”

“Hmph!! Your qi wasn’t sealed. It was destroyed. Do you remember? You indeed need to train your qi again, but your martial arts techniques and skills are still intact.”

Leng San’s brows knitted together. He did not expect to easily recover his qi anyway, as he knew his body well. He accepted the reality and let out a big sigh.

“In the past, it took me ten years, from the age of five years old, to reach the first level of the orange qi. I’ll have to start all over from today. But I’m confident that it’ll take me only seven years to reach that point again.”

“As expected of the prodigy born only once a thousand years of the number one clan, Leng Clan. There were only a few people amongst the four continents, who could increase the strength of their qi by two stages within ten years. But you reached the orange stage, a total of six stages, within the age of fifteen. What a monster!! Even amongst the three realms, I’ve never heard of a being who has made such progress before.”

Leng San completely ignored what Freya said. He directed his qi towards his dantian before dispersing it throughout his body, reaching a state of stasis. Then he redirected his qi towards his dantian and re-dispersed it. The cycle repeated itself again and again, enlarging his meridians throughout his body. Violet qi enveloped his body from sunset to sunrise for a total of five shichens (ten hours). His eyes then reopened.

“Hmph!! What a monster. The level of your violet qi increased from level one to level three within one night. Unbelievable.”

Hiding beneath the sarcasm of Freya’s voice was an utmost excitement!! Increasing the level of violet qi was quite easy when compared to the other stages of qi. But increasing from level one to level three within a night was phenomenal unless the user took highly potent potions. However, it usually took a normal person at least three months and one to two months for a prodigy to increase their level of qi by what Leng San achieved within a night.

Leng San slightly smirked.

“The hard part for me is raising my qi from the middle levels to the high levels. Raising the low levels of qi usually took me less than three nights by using my self-developed Dragon Meridian technique. No matter how hard I tried teaching the members of my clan, no one was able to direct their qi at the dantian and disperse their qi throughout, cyclically, for more than three rounds. This is what intrigues me about the difference between my body and the other members of my clan.”

Freya grew silent after hearing what Leng San said.

“About that… I can’t tell you just yet… It’s a secret that your grandpa told me.”

“M...my grandpa knew about this!!”

“Yes, your grandpa knew about it. But he told me to refrain from telling you before the appropriate time has arrived.”

“The appropriate time?”

Freya remained silent. Leng San gave up the interrogation and went to wash his face to prepare for the first day of work in this new place. After eating at the pantry, Leng San found out by asking the workers that there were two gardens, consisting of the east garden which was used as a reception area for guests, and the west garden which was located in front of the village chief’s room. Upon reaching the garden, Chun Jiangtu was already waiting for him.

“Good for you to wake up early. Your tasks are simple. Just water the plants, plow the soil, and preserve the appearance of trees by trimming them. Can you do it?”

“Yes, elder, I’ll do as you’ve instructed.”

“Good, what’s your name?”

“My surname is Leng, my first name is San.”

Chun Jiangtu nodded.

“Leng San, hmm… The village chief is actively recruiting young men like you to take part in the festival that will be held at the Indigo Cloud City, so currently, the ones taking care of the residence will be only me and his daughter. I will introduce you to him once there’s an opportunity.”

“The festival at the Indigo Cloud City?”

“Oh, it’s a yearly festival where prodigy martial artists, representing the cities, will test out their skills against each other. The village chief did in fact settle down in this village, but he never forgot that he’s the son of the city’s governor. So he attends the festival every year without fail. Sigh… but it’s a shame that our village is very small. Don’t speak of finding a prodigy, just finding a young participant is hard enough. It’s not so different from searching for a dragon in your own backyard.”

“Can I participate?”

Once Leng San opened his mouth, Chun Jiangtu stared at Leng San in dismay. He then let out a sigh and shook his head.

“Your qi is too weak. The person with the weakest qi who’ve participated possessed an indigo qi. Your qi is still in the early levels of the violet stage. You’re pretty far off from the eligible. Some youngsters that are younger than you already have qi that is stronger than your qi.”

Leng San subtly smiled. He then cupped his hand and humbly bowed out of habit.

“If you say so, please allow me to directly take on three of your attacks!!”
