Encounter

"Those claws... and canines... this is a proper predator Lucas..." John muttered under his breath. Lucas just nodded in response, no matter how much he tried, getting the description of what they were seemed impossible.

The three lizard humanoids were ripping the flesh off the corpse as if it was tofu. Lucas and John kept looking toward them with fear and panic, no matter how much they thought about confronting these damn things. Their minds went blank.

But, just when Lucas was going to ask John to run... a thought came to his mind.

'The Vixenox had claws, I killed it. This time... these claws can be used for something better...' Lucas thought, suddenly his gaze shifted from that of panic and fear, it was just a thought that came for a few seconds. Lucas came to his right mind quickly but for a little while, his gaze changed to that of a predator.

If John would have seen that excited confident gaze, he would have gotten some confidence to kill those things.

*Kr?*

"S-Shit..."

One of the creatures made a confused noise and looked right at the place where Lucas and John were staring from. The blood in Lucas's brain pumped furiously thinking that his life will end sooner than he expected, he was like a normal human on Earth as all his abilities came from the shelter and he was very far from it.

While Lucas was feeling all these complex emotions, John was different. Unlike Lucas, he was the head of his family that needed his protection. All his worry went to how his family would live in this god-forsaken world if he died so quickly.

The reptile-like humanoid creature stood on his feet while still looking in Lucas's direction, the other two creatures moved their heads up for a second but went back to eating as if not interested in their partner's antics.

Before they knew it, the humanoid creature hunched its back and with hands and feet on the ground, it started moving towards them slowly while sniffing the ground.

Lucas looked at the creature's cold-blooded snake-like eyes and couldn't help but shiver a little. This type of creature looked more dangerous than a lion or a crocodile.

Lucas and John slowly backed away, trying to keep their eyes on the creature while also looking for an escape route. They knew that they had to be careful, any sudden movements could trigger an attack from the predator.

As they backed away, the creature continued to sniff the ground, its eyes fixed in their direction. Its long claws dug into the dirt, leaving deep grooves behind as it moved closer.

Lucas felt his heart racing, his palms sweaty, and his breaths shallow. He had never felt so vulnerable before. All this time when he was sure his life had changed where he would trample on anything that would come his way.

But it ended just like that.

"Lucas..." A light voice entered his ears, Lucas looked at John who had stopped moving back to the shelter while coaching down. He furrowed his brows but John didn't say anything until...

"We can't let this thing come anywhere near the shelter... we have to either run somewhere else or... fight." John this time made eye contact, Lucas's spine shivered a little when he saw John's expression. It was filled with determination and Lucas knew where it came from.

'He wants to protect his family...' He went in a daze again as finally, he remembered his family again. In times of danger, sometimes people don't think of anything but the danger they are in and this was what happened to Lucas, he shook his head violently to make his mind settle again, 'I am going to fucking meet my family!' He shouted inwardly.

His face showed the prior confidence again which John noticed this time. The confidence was like a communicable disease.

At one glace, John knew what he decided. Lucas wanted to fight.

At this point, the lizard was still pretty far but it was still coming in their direction.

Lucas and John made a little pep talk in which their expression changed various times but at last, they both went to the side. The spears in their hands were ready to pounce anytime now.

The creature had not stopped till now, it had felt something dangerous in that direction and it wasn't going to back off.

These creatures were an intellectual but primitive species called 'Kobolds'. Just like the humans, the kobolds were also shifted from their planet to the plains of Amaeron.

The Kobold on this note were a very territorial species, at this place, there were only three of them after the big teleport just like the humans. The grazing area had become their territory after they saw so many vulnerable creatures in this place.

They were the ones that followed Lucas and the others to the shelter, the humans from far looked like a very weak species covered in different clothes but still, the Kobolds wanted to play it safe. They waited for the night to fall and tried to enter the defenses yet it was a big mistake as the sound of the crunch made them run far away to the grazing area thinking they had made a big mistake.

Like humans, they were also an intellectual species trying to survive in their own primitive and ferocious way.

Lucas was at the side near one of the trees trying to hide but he could finally see the creature coming toward him.

John was on the other side near a tree trying to hide, it was inevitable not to meet the Kobold now as it was too close.

*Sniff* *Sniff*

The Kobold took a few deep sniffs on the ground, its tail whipped around fast as if he was onto something.

He sniffed again as his eyes moved everywhere when it finally stopped on a slightly big and muscular man.
