A Mother's Love Pt. 2 (Black Label)

You stood on the roof across from the police precinct watching as the little girl was taken in. You hoped for the best buy honestly you had no idea what to do. You could only hope.

You looked down at your phone to see several missed calls. Some from Booster, some from Helena, even some from Cassandra. No one really had an idea what it was you were doing aside from Helena but even she didn't know the whole truth. The true reason you were here. She'd probably kill you if she did.

You turned away from the building and looked down at the map on your phone. You had left the building a bit ago and it was now late. No point in finding your mom now. Best to just call it a night and try again in the morning. You turned away to go towards the hotel you booked but stopped. You spotted someone down in the street below. Someone you felt like you recognized. You tried to put a name to the face but found it difficult to do so. You shrugged it off and leaped away.-------The hotel was cheap and filthy but it served its purpose. A place to stay the night. You stripped down and jumped in the shower. As the water ran through your hair you thought back on Helena. Your, girlfriend. It was still weird saying that. It had been 2 months but it was still so odd to think that you were dating someone who was technically 31 years older than you. Of course you never went pass a kiss or a make out but you do still recall her at the club that night. The lingerie she wore. The thought swirled through your mind. You slowly moved your hand down towards your waist.

Your thoughts were interrupted when your phone began to ring. You washed out the left over soap and turned the shower off. You wrapped the towel around your waist and checked the screen. A unknown number. You answered it.

Y/N: Hello?

???: 32 and Indian. Midnight. Be there.

The line went dead. You looked at your phone and tried to call the number back was immediately declined. You tossed it down on the bed before groaning. You grabbed your watch and quickly pulled on some clothes. Guess you were going to 32 and Indian.---------You hung around the rooftop in the darkness looking down. You had been here since about 11 just to be sure. The street itself wasn't anything special. It was just as dirty and deserted as every other street. You checked the time to see it was 11:57. It was almost time. You had thought about who it could be that had called you but no one came to mind. Even the Question was eliminated when you considered the possibility.

A few more minutes passed by and a truck drove up to the building across the street. You activated your mask to take a closer look only to recognize some of the men getting out. They were Black Mask's crew. What were they doing here?

Y/N: What are they up to?

You watched as they opened the back of the truck and out came two more men with guns. Then a sight that chilled you to the bone. They started dragging children out one by one. Your blood boiled as you gripped onto the ledge. Your eyes grew wide when you recognized one. The little girl you had saved that morning.

You watched them enter the building one by one before you finally flew over and found a way in. You crawled through the vents and followed the line of children from above. They entered a room and you waited before jumping down and slipping in. You hid behind a crate and watched as the children were set in a straight line side by side. Two men checked each kid and wrote down something on a clipboard. You activated your mask and realized it was prices. They were going to sell these kids.

Y/N: Fuckers.

You decided it was time but you stopped when you saw two new figures enter the room.

Copperhead

And Roulette.

Y/N: What the hell? I thought Roulette was arrested. What is she doing here? With Copperhead to.

The two women approached the man with the clipboard who greeted them and began to present the children.

Seller: As your boss asked. A wide variety of meta human children with various abilities. We have taken the liberty of putting the prices down here.

He handed Roulette the board but she just handed it to Copperhead who broke it on her knee.

Roulette: Boss said nothing about buying them.

Copperhead leaped at the man then proceeded to tear him apart as the others reaches for their guns. Now was the time to step in. You leaped into action by tackling the closest man and beating him down before you leaped back as another tried to hit you from behind. You landed behind him and kicked him into the metal pillar knocking him out. You turned around to see Copperhead going to town on the others. Roulette spotted you and approached you.

Roulette: Red X? What a surprise. What brings you here?

She pulled out a fan which had sharp looking blades on the end. You stood your ground.

Y/N: I went for a walk.

Roulette: And you happened to stumble upon all this?

Y/N: It was an enthusiastic walk.

She leaped towards you but you blocked the blades only to be kicked in the side. You quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her towards you as you slammed your knee into her gut. She somehow flipped over you and stabbed the fan, now folded, into you back side. She pulled it out and threw you to the ground before planted herself onto you.

Roulette: Hm. Not what I thought you'd be like. I was told that you were composed. You're angry. I wonder why.

Y/N: Maybe because you're buying fucking children!

Roulette: No no you have it wrong. We're taking these brats to our boss. What he does he does. Not my concern as long as I get paid.

She slowly leaned closer towards you until her breath began to fog up the small glass covering your eyes.

Roulette: You seem younger than I would have thought.

You activated your boots and jetted yourself away before lauching yourself off the pillar you landed on and tackled her. You then threw a smoke bomb down as you jumped up and slipped away. Roulette looked around the cloud of smoke before you attacked her from behind. You dissapeared again leaving her baffled. You attacked again, and again, and again. She was so confused that she didn't even notice you coming up in front of her to deliver the final blow which sent her flying out of the smoke and into the wall.

You emerged and looked around to find all the men dead while the children were huddled away in a corner. You looked around and saw no signs of Copperhead. Suddenly there was a helicopter. You turned around to see Copperhead with Roulette running out.

Copperhead: I'll get my chance with you next time X. Remember this!

You decided against stopping them when you remembered the children. You rushed over to them only to find them frightened by you. You kneeled down and took off your helmet.

Y/N: It's ok. It's ok. I'm one of the good guys.

Your eyes fell on the little girl who stood up and hugged you. You hugged her back before looking around the warehouse once again. You picked her up and turned to the kids.

Y/N: Come on. Let's get you all somewhere safe.

You threw your mask back on as you walked through the building. Once you got outside you were surprised to see first responders already waiting, along with the Justice League.

Y/N: What the hell?

Batman spotted you with wide eyes as he approached you.

Batman: Beyond. What are you doing here?

Y/N: I can ask you the same question. What is the league doing in Hub City?

Batman allowed the first responders to take care of the children before he explained the situation.

Batman: We had a call regarding this building what what was to transpire tonight. We moved in as soon as we could. What are you doing here?

Y/N: Same thing I guess. Got a phone call telling me to be here at midnight.

Batman nodded.

Batman: Then you can come with me and you can fill us all in.

You nodded. Suddenly there was a gentle tug on your arm and you found the little girl from before. You kneeled down.

Y/N: Hey princess. You doing ok?

She just nodded.

Girl: Thank you X Man.

You smiled as you switched your armor to Beyond. Her eyes widened and a smile formed on her face.

Y/M: My name is Beyond. Batman Beyond but you can just call me Beyond.

She hugged you once again. What she said chilled you.

Girl: My name is Maria L/N. You can just call me Maria.

She let go of you then ran off towards the police leaving you there in shock. Batman noticed this.

Batman: She is your mother? She's so young.

Y/N: All this time. I never knew.

Batman then saw you begin to shake. He placed a hand on your shoulder as you suddenly came to a realization.

Y/N: She's, I, she has metahuman genes.

Batman raised an eyebrow before he came to his own conclusion. He looked at the children and helped you up.

Batman: We'll get you to the Watchtower. You can rest there and fill us in tomorrow. You did good today Beyond. You did good.

You nodded and began to walk with Batman as everyone around you cheered and thanked you for your work. You just kept your head down.
