Leah's Fate

His eyes were on me, but he wasn't speaking. “Gerald?” I touched his hand. “You have something to tell me?” All he said was “I understand.” But I felt the need to speak out. Guilt was building up in me, filling me up like a cup that was ready to overflow with water. His consistent look at me couldn't let me have a moment of peace. “Actually… Andrea and Raguel… They tricked me into spending a private time with Amon.” It was hard for me to maintain my flow of words, and I took in breaths. “I didn't realize he would try to seduce me.” My hands were rubbing against each other, the sweat forming on my palms acted as lubricant. But Gerald's expression did not change. “That's not a big issue on ground.” He shook his head about three times. “You have something that belongs to Amon.” Something that belonged to Amon? What if he knew I was pregnant with Amon's child? ************************************** Was it all about love or the mate bond? My lover, Amon, had left me for a girl he claimed was his fated mate, and I was torn apart, feeling like there was no life without him. In just a month, I met Gerald, the Alpha of another pack, and he turned out to be my mate. But then, I was pregnant with Amon’s child. I had decided to keep my pregnancy a secret because of the rule of my pack, and Amon was never aware of it. Gerald marked me without a hint of it, but things turned crazy when Amon showed up in secret, claiming he loved me. I was conflicted, but there was more to Gerald that I didn't know. Everyone around me was hinting vague things about him that they weren't certain of. Well, whatever it was, I was going to accept it as part of my fate.

Conflicted

Leah's POV

He was walking closer to me, maintaining the crazy smile he had on his face. I wanted to stay in place without moving backward, but his coming closer to me was making my legs move.

"What are the requirements?" I asked, using all effort to balance my breathing.

"It's just the normal process," he said.

He had gotten to the spot I was standing, so close to me that my boobs were almost pressing against his chest. It seemed he was pretending not to get the clue that I wasn't okay with his closeness.

"The mirror would get to work." He resumed the seriousness on his face. "But first, I will ask you a few questions you must answer."

"Okay." I heaved a sigh. "Go on with the questions.

He moved further away from me to sit on the floor, his eyes going over Cristine and me. I wanted to know what he had in mind, but that was too hard. He could be masking his expression, or might just be playing around with me.

"Sit on the floor. Don't use the chair."

Cristine and I obliged. She left the chair she was sitting on before the plates to stay on the floor.

"Please go on with the questions," I urged him.

But his eyes were focused on Cristine like he had something to tell her, or she was involved in the questions he was supposed to ask me.

He snapped his fingers.

I heard the door bang.

And then… Cristine was no longer with me.

"Cristine?" I turned to look all around me. "Where is she? Where… Is Cristine?"

I had my heart in my mouth, quickly standing up from the spot I was sitting to go closer to the door. He was just looking at me, shaking his head like nothing had happened.

"Where is she?"

"She's outside. Our conversation has to be private. No one should hear the questions I have to ask you."

No one? What sort of question was he going to ask that no ears should hear? It didn't make sense to me that Cristine was taken out of the hall in such a creepy manner.

"She's my friend," I said, clenching my fists. "We have no secrets!"

He laughed loudly such that his voice echoed in the room. "You don't have secrets? Hmm…"

He stood up from the floor. With the snap of his fingers, a rocking chair appeared behind him. I had never seen such use of mystical powers.

"What about your nightly hangout with Amon? Did you tell her about that?"

My muscles weakened all of a sudden, how had he known about that? Could he read through me?

"How… How did you know about that?"

"If I wasn't a mage, you wouldn't be here, seeking for answers."

He stiffened his face once again, back to business. Meanwhile, I was still looking at the door as though to confirm that everything was okay with Cristine.

"That should spark your belief," he said. "Come over here, let's talk."

I took a step, and then another, my eyes not leaving him. He was wearing a robe, a white robe that could be easily mistaken for a gown. He was standing before the mirror, looking at himself.

"You should stand before the mirror. Are you scared?"

"No… No, I'm not."

"Then come."

I was standing beside the mirror, and he made me face it, looking at the reflection of myself, and that of him. His hands were on my shoulders. I wanted to move a good distance away from him, but I didn't want to give the impression that I was scared.

"Be sincere with me." He was tapping my shoulders. "What do you feel about Gerald?"

"What exactly do you want to know about him?"

"Anything, tell me about your love affair, tell me what you feel about him, that's what I want to hear."

My mouth stayed mute. I didn't know what to say, but his eyes facing the mirror were prying on my reflection, urging me to speak. It was hard.

"It's the normal feeling between mates," I said.

"Tell me about the normal feeling."

"About mates?"

"What else are we talking about?"

His hands started rubbing against my shoulders, playing with the hand of my dress as if he was going to pull it off. I stylishly moved my body away from him, but he was pretending not to understand my body language.

"You don't want to talk about it?" He hadn't let me off the hook.

"I do not know."

"Let's be honest… You wouldn't be feeling guilty if you don't have deep feelings."

"I don't know if to call it love, but at the same time, all that Amon has put me through is still replaying in my head."

His hand walked down to hold my upper arms, moving me closer to the mirror. With just a blink of my eyelids, his face changed to Amon's face.

I almost slipped off his hold to fall to the ground.

"Amon?" My eyes became wet, and my hand moved to touch the mirror, hoping to touch Amon's face. "Is that you?"

But then I took my eyes off the mirror to look at Logan. His face was still the same, and not Amon's.

"Why did you change your face in the mirror?"

He chuckled. "Your emotions are still connected to Amon, and it's the root of the guilt you are feeling. It's high time you accepted it."

The guilt I was feeling… I wondered if he'd gotten the idea that I was pregnant with Amon's child. I hoped he didn't, but I was no longer myself looking at him. He had gone deep into my emotions and was searching me in and out.

"How much do you know about me?"

"It goes with the mirror… You're conflicted. You don't want to accept the fact that you secretly long for Amon, and at the same time, you're already falling deep into love with Gerald."

My whole body was starting to shake. I couldn't argue with him. It felt like he was telling me everything I didn't know about myself.

"Let's forget about Amon… Tell me about Gerald."

He went behind me, his hands starting to go around my waist. "Isn't Amon important?"

"No… Gerald is the person I'm supposed to care about…"
