Chapter X - The Hidden

"I don't think so."

We all turn towards the voice.

"...Reo," I said.

"Reo!" Kyle greets her with a cheerful grin, "So what drew you to our little crowd this morning? Wouldnt be the sparks in the air would it?"

Reo laughs goodnaturedly, "Ahahaha! Good one, I see what you did there...by which, I approve." She shakes her head, still chuckling, "Well you aren't wrong, I just felt a strange tingle as every particle of the air surged with magic...and as quickly as it appeared, it vanished. So I came to see what's up here."

She turns to me, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, "You know...Raven, do you...have a memory of...a road trodden red?"

My mind turns to my nightmares, bloodstained with the cries of the night-spoken visions. I shake my head slowly, "...None of the sort. Unless you mean the red carpet the nobles always like to carry with them."

Reo's eyes widen slightly, and smiles, amused. "Alright, just curious, because it's a common subject with the demons, I thought you might have had an encounter with it before. And as for your little statement about your talents that I couldn't help but overhear..." She looks at me thoughtfully, "...I believe that you have some hidden potential."

"That seems to be the most likely and reasonable conclusion to these matters." The Headmaster walks up to us, his arms folded behind his back, a small twinkle of intrigue in his eyes as he pulls out the softly pulsing crystal in his hand, holding it up to the sun. "This energy, the crystal hasn't reacted like this ever since...well ever....! Quite interesting I must say..." He pockets the gem and turns to the president, who walks up to us, and stops right next to the headmaster as he gestures towards her.

"The student council president will assist you will anything you need forward, she will be a kind of... assistant mentor by my request, along with Yuuki here. So get used to their presence now, because they will show you all that you need to know."

The president extends her arm, her drink from before vanished from her hands, "I have already introduced myself before. I am the student council president, Minuet Mizuku. You can refer to me as 'President' if you like, or use my family name, both are fine. Any problems or questions, come to me."

I hesitate, then accept the handshake warily, "...Pleased to formally meet your acquaintance, President." I instantly drop it, looking away as my heartrate runs another mile.

She nods politely, "We must be off, further scaling of the tests must be done." She glances at Kyle, "I trust you to be responsible now Yuuki, nothing out of the school's boundaries now."

He salutes, "Got it Prez, happy analyzing!" Kyle low-whistles as the Headmaster and the President walk off towards the building, using North's shoulder as an armrest as he leans toward me. "Wow, the president really is something don't you agree? I feel like she's a quite charming personality."

Oh dear, I might have to say he already had spent too much time with my brother.

"You, my fellow human," I said, "I'm afraid. Is mildly influenced by my brother. Don't make me come after you."

North just smirks, "Don't worry too much Kyle, her brain just isn't in the right state of mind after...uh...someone."

I fume quietly on the inside, annoyed at North.

Kyle snaps his fingers, "Oh yeah! There's a possibility you could be a super-powerful mage now!"

I raise my eyebrows, "I highly doubt."

"It's just a possibility! We finally already have one in the school after a century after the last all-elemental, and that was just the 'Hero'," Kyle said, "The Hero was the only one to be able to control all elements with ease, though rumor says another is already at this school..,"

I stare at him blankly, "So...you're suggesting I broke the test with my oh so powerful potential?"

"Maybe!"

I shake my head, watching as the branches of leaves sway in the wind, and the clouds floating lazily past.

North speaks up, "Sister, we should get our things from the house no? Better now when they give us designated time to than during the start of classes."

Kyle perks to attention, "Oh, would you two need a ride? My family stables are quite near, and we would be happy to lend a horse or two."

I cross my arms, then pull North aside whispering, "Don't you think you are a little too invested with this...student life? We are only here on the boss's orders...!"

"The orders were to accommodate to the academy's student services, studying and attending classes like one all while collecting intel when we need to..." He murmurs under his breath to me, "All until we are needed back to base..and we got to blend in...! You know, learn the humane ways...?"

I narrow my eyes slightly, "Hold on...nevermind..." I let him go and we turn back to Kyle,

"My sister means it would be dearly appreciated, thank you," North said and nodding.

Kyle smiles cheerfully, "Well let's go!"

I reluctantly follow along, though I literally don't have much to carry back, or at least not anything I want to...

"Raven."

I stop, turning to the voice that I instantly recognized, as we have just spoken moments before.

It was Minuet.

She raises her eyebrows slightly, "...Busy? Should I ask for you another time now? Its nothing important, just something we need to borrow you for a little while for."

I look back at North, who was already waving goodbye as he dashes off.

North calls back to me, "You can go with the president Raven! I will get your stuff for you!!" He gives me a knowing grin and catches up with Kyle, disappearing around the corner.

My face warms, making the cold feel less apparent.

"Seems like...I'm free. Apparently."

Minuet gifts me with a small smile of amusement, the sun reflected in her ocean blue eyes as the light glint off the lens of her glasses, "Well then, lets go?"
