Last of The Fae

Unlike other muggle borns Thane always knew magic was real. He could feel it in the world around him and even more importantly, within himself. But isolated and alone Thane could only dream of one day going out into the world and discovering if there were others like him. But Thane would have never guessed that there was an entire hidden world where everyone was either a wizard or a witch. Thane also never would have guessed that he had a bigger role to play in the grand scheme of the world, one that would require him to grow and learn faster than any reasonable person would expect. --- If you want to read more of Last of the Fae consider subscribing my patreon where there is up to 16 advanced chapters for you to read. For the first time since arriving at Hogwarts Thane did not wake up eager for another day of school. Rolling out of bed was a painful and arduous process that required every shred of concentration and willpower than Thane could muster. Much to Ingrid's enjoyment as she took her customary position coiled around Thane's upper arm with her head resting on his shoulder.

"Ungrateful snake, last time I let you sleep in…" Thane muttered under his breath as he opened the door to his dorm only to find his way forward blocked by his second to fifth least favorite people.

"Hello Thane."

"Malfoy," Thane replied, already feeling a headache coming on and he hadn't even set a foot outside his bedroom, "Can this wait until after breakfast?"

Draco grinned with a confidence that Thane found somewhat unsettling, "What's the matter tired after your little midnight excursion?"

Thane froze for a second before he let out a long tired sigh, "Of course, it had to be you. Weasley is too prideful to do something that cunning."

"For once I agree with you Thane, but that doesn't change the fact you betrayed your own house," Draco spat accusingly but he couldn't wipe the grin off his face, "But it seems as if not even the Blood traitor can tolerate your presence."

"We aren't at war Draco and it was one meal," Thane replied as he rubbed his tired eyes, "Now move I am in desperate need of some caffeine."

"Look how desperate he is to go hang out with your Gryffindor buddies again." Pansy taunted with a smug grin before it morphed into an ugly frown, "You're little stunt yesterday made Slytherin into a laughing stalk. That can't go unpunished."

"Right you are Pansy," Draco said as his smile became something crueler and far more malicious, "Crabbe, Goyle teach Thane here what we do to traitors."

Thane glanced over as two of Draco's lackeys Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle stepped forward menacingly. While Thane knew they weren't related, the boy looked nearly identical, with shaved heads, large statures with more fat than muscle and dull beady eyes that couldn't contain more than a few errant thoughts at a time.

Crabbe acted first, reaching out with his large pudgy hand most likely to grab Thane by the collar, but that was as far as his attempt got.

Thane lazily batted aside Crabbe's sausage fingers with the back of his hand before retaliating with a quick chop to Crabbe's throat dropping the brute to his knees as he gagged and coughed.

Despite seeing Thane drop his friend in the blink of an eye Goyle wasn't dissuaded in the slightest, instead letting out a belligerent roar as he charged Thane who turned to look at him with boredom in his eyes.

Holding out his hand Thane's spellblade leapt out of its sheath and slapped into his open palm as Thane pointed it at Goyle, "Wingardium Leviosa."

There was a brief flash of light as Thane quickly stepped to the side avoiding the now airborne Goyle as he flew through the air and crashed into the door behind Thane with a solid sounding thud before dropping to the ground with a groan.

"And there you have it, two more reasons why genetic diversity is so important," Thane muttered as he let go of his spellblade which promptly flew back into his sleeve before turning to face the remaining trio blocking his path. There was a moment of silence before Blaise Zanbini dashed forward, his fist raised and anger plastered across his face.

Seeing the attempted sneak attack from a mile away Thane felt his anger flare for the first time since the altercation had begun.

Taking a step back Thane easily avoided the poorly spaced sucker punch before he raised his hand and backhanded Blaise across the face with all the force he could muster.

There was a crisp smack and Blaise was sent stumbling to the side as his hands shot up to cover his face and a second later blood started to seep through his fingers, "Muah moutf!"

Thane glanced down at the back of his hand and frowned at the blood staining his knuckles, "Fantastic…"

Holding out his other hand Thane conjured a hancherik and used it to wipe his bloodied hand before tossing the stained cloth at Blaise, "Clean yourself up, you're getting blood all over the floor."

"Igh gowna kill yogh!" Blaise spat back through his busted lip and Thane rolled his eyes before promptly ignoring the man to face the remaining duo.

Draco flinched as he met Thane's eyes and with shaking hands he pulled out his wand and pointed it at Thane, "S-stay back, t-take another step and I'll-"

Thane cut Draco off as he took three massive steps before planting his foot squarely in between Draco's legs. Like a deflating balloon Draco slumped to the floor, his wand quickly forgotten as his hands went to cup his crotch.

Straightening his robes and smoothing back the stray hairs in his face Thane glanced at Pansy only to find the girl staring at him unblinking her eyes wide with fear, awe and another emotion that Thane immediately scrubbed from his mind, 'Nope.'

Without another word Thane stepped past Draco's prone form and left the common room ignoring the small crowd that had formed during the short and one sided fight.

Walking through the library as usual Hermione for once wasn't looking for a book hiding amongst the towering maze of bookshelves. She almost gave up her search until she heard the soft rhythmic breath of someone in a deep sleep. Coming around a corner Hermione paused as her eyes panned across the scene in front of her.

A space had been cleared amongst the narrow lanes of bookshelves forming a small but spacious alcove. In the middle stood a sturdy wooden table which was piled high with books, but even more floated in the air above the table as if loyal guards on standby waiting to be called.

Once more the sound of someone breathing came from behind the stacks of books and Hermione moved around to find Thane passed out using the silver encased book he always carried around with him as a pillow.

Approaching as silently as she could Hermione stared at Thane's peaceful form, absent of the usual confidence and pride he carried himself with. Instead Thane looked at ease with his hair undone and spilling around his face. Reaching out, Hermione gently brushed Thane's hair back revealing his jawline and Hermione couldn't help but blush as she quickly glanced away.

Distracting herself, Hermione took a look at the open books around Thane and found out that most of them were talking about mana theory and or ritual magic, 'What is he doing?'

As if hearing her inner thoughts Thane jolted away raising his head off the table as he looked around drearily, "h-huh, w-what's going on?"

Hermione yelped and stumbled back as if Thane had just risen from the dead. Turning around Thane blinked as he stared at Hermione, "Oh it's just you Beaver."

There was a moment of silence before Thane's cheeks darkened as if realizing what he just said and he quickly looked away, "What did you just call me?"

"Nothing," Thane replied with a cough, "Uh, w-what are you doing here?"

Hermione narrowed her eyes at Thane but decided to let the issue drop, "Well I wanted to thank you after what happened last night."

"Oh your welcome then," Thane said with a smile before his face dropped, "Also it was Malfoy who told Filch I don't know how but he pretty much confirmed it."

"I'd expect nothing less from him," Hermione responded as she cleared a space on the table and promptly sat down, "Though that explains the reason for your scuffle."

Thane groaned, "You heard about that?"

Hermione grinned, "Of course I did, all of the first years are talking about it. Did you really kick Malfoy in the crotch?"

"Not my proudest moment I admit, but in my defense I was tired and hangry," Thane replied defensively which didn't diminish Hermione's grin, "Really I would have patted myself on the back from that one. I'm just surprised you haven't been called in by the Professors."

Thane shrugged and turned back to face the book in front of him, "I doubt they would go to the teacher's themselves, their pride won't allow it."

Hermione nodded along before biting her bottom lip nervously, "What are you reading?"

Thane grunted, "Ritual magic."

"Aren't most rituals banned by the Ministry because they're highly unpredictable and super expensive?" Hermione asked.

"Yes, but that hasn't always been the case."
