On her tail

The man behind the counter blinked, it was simple really, a feeble mind like that of a human was extremely subjectable to hypnotism, something a vampire is quite capable off.

"Oh, but sure sir..." He said holding his hand to the other side of the counter.

"Much obliged" Deno said walking around and bending next to the old man scanning the cameras.

There were four of them but only two peeked Deno's interest, the one pointing over the parking where part if the hotel across the street was visible, and the one who had all twenty rooms in view.

Deno rewinded the footage to this morning early, there he saw black pickup, winded it until he saw the girl with purple hair climb out with another man.

"Who's the gentleman?" Deno asked seeing only he climbed out initially to book a room.

"I'm sorry sir, I can't give out client information" the old man said but Deno looked at him.

"Sure you can"

The old man's voice crackled "Oh... Uh, he said his name is Nicolai, he's from Russia"

Deno chuckled "I highly doubt it..."

"Why?"

"Look at his pickup closely, see something off?"

He man leaned in past Deno but shook his head after a long look "No sir"

"His steering wheel is on the left hand side if the truck, meaning he's from America you idiot"

"Oh..." The old man said but Deno patted his shoulder.

"Don't threat my dear man, this is why you run an old mopey motel and isn't a detective" Deno said playing the footage of his two chosen cameras.

The morning was quiet until that building went up in flames, they couldn't be seen on the camera but the firetrucks arriving made it clear, then the girl ran out with her American Russian in tow.

Vaguely Deno saw them go left of the hotel but the camera couldn't see too much after that, not long and they came back, the girl covered in a jacket.

Deno smiled, she hid her burnt ear from bystanders, it was good! Humans are a curious species and probably had their eyes on the fire above, little did they know a werewolf just ran between them covered in nothing but a jacket.

He played the footage until the pickup left, but he squinted seeing at least one group of humans payed attention, following not long after the pickup left in an ugly silver van.

"My my, you greedy bastards"

"Who was that?" The old man asked.

"It was the werewolf girl, she stayed here in your motel... You gaping sorry yawning sleepsock, but all that is irrelevant to you now"

The man was eyes wide shocked to the core, he looked at Deno who hypnotized him again.

"When you wake up you will forget about me, forget about the two in the black truck who stayed over, life will go on as normal for you..."

"Uh, okay then?"

"Now sleep"

The man nodded "Toodles" he said and snored back in his chair.

Deno erased the footage of the two past days and and disconnected the cameras before leaving the reception, he was glad no one had the mindset to come snoop around, that or whoever will snoop around is still coming.

He climbed back into his Lamborghini and shut the door, there he sat for a few seconds thinking, did she really touch the world with her bravery? If she made headlines surely your snob sod one or two human will come rushing to the area to see if she's still around?

His thoughts barely cold when an unmarked police cruiser came crawling into the motel parking.

Deno smiled, too late boys, but as for his wolf girl there might be a tail she wouldn't like, and not the furry kind, so he started up and set off in the direction he saw them go, making sure he was well away from the scene of the fire he then kicked the throttle.

The supercar wailed on response and quickly surged over two hundred, he needed to catch up to the greed smitten van men, they obviously want that bounty money for themselves, and if Deno wasn't mistaken, them not calling the cops the moment they noticed means they want her alive.

He passed cars at blazing speeds, he was honked at by one or two who got a fright at the sudden blast by but why would Deno even care?

Ahead was a fueling station and with screeching tyres he came in, not even worried to park the car he climbed out and entered the shop, passed the reception to the back room ignoring the till attendants protests.

The manager swirled in his chair when Deno nearly broke the door down.

"Excuse me! You can't be back here!"

"A assure you I can"

"Oh, yes I forgot" the manager said standing aside so Deno could check the cameras, it was just a quick peek that allowed him to see the truck stop for gas then leave, and not long after the van.

"Much obliged" he said and left to his car.

He was sure the truck was now filled up so good ol Nicolai won't stop any time soon for fuel again.

So it was open taps from here on out, Deno disrespected his powerful car and with screaming tyres left the gas station, by his calculations they should have at least a four hour lead on him, so in order to make up for lost time Deno had to have his speed averaging over two hundred, a laughing feat for his Aventador.

He was doing the reckless endangerment for at least an hour when he came to a T-junction, there he stood looking left and right, where to now?

In his rearview the blue and red of a speeding police cruiser started getting closer, he heard the sirens.

"Oh dear me" he said, put the car in reverse and pulled off to the side of the road.

The police official pulled over behind him and climbed out with storming thunder "Are you crazy!?" He screamed.

Deno didn't move from his seat, he only kept his hands obediently on the steering wheel "Oh! Not crazy my dear sir, I was out for a drive"

"A drive!? How fast did you your think you were 'driving?' I clocked you in two eighty about twenty miles back! And I caught you only now!"

Deno looked over his shoulder then smiled at the officer "Well how fast did you manage to clock in officer?" He asked and stepped out.

The official gaped his mouth for some reason forgetting why he was angry "That's, well that's..."

Deno looked at the car he came in "A Vauxhall Monaro VXR, thats a V8 right? Surely you must have put up some impressive speeds?"

"I, well I managed two fifty just now" the officer said and brushed his hair.

"Magnificent! Doesn't it feel great to just let go and test the limits of your resolve every now and then officer!?"

"Uh... yes it does feel good"

Deno slapped his shoulder "I think that deserves you a beer at the bar tonight sir, drink one for me as well, you deserve it"

"Oh, why thanks then, have a great day sir" the officer said and left to his car.

Deno wove at him as he left then looked at the signs, one said Edinburgh and the other Dorchester, Edinburgh was north deeper into England and Deno could assume since she's already spotted from day one she'd try and flee this place, so south it is.

He climbed back into his car and turned right when the car straightened out he floored the accelerator yet again.
