Opportunity does not knock until you make a door

The Master kept staring at his disciple, his face expressing a bit of concern.

"Such a stupid disciple This Lord acquired." He then proceeded to look for any external wounds. None. Good thing, she was not hurt internally. Any internal wound? It seemed the technique was just too strenous for her body and reacted by vomitting blood. But now all her wounds were rapidly healing.

"Looks like she has a bit of skill." Since she was out of danger, she would wake up eventually. There was no need provide any care. Opening one of the cabinet in his office, he took a blanket out and laid it over her and went back to his reports.

Though the valley was peaceful, he still had a lot of things to do such as mediating disputes, keeping good relations with all the factions in the valley, ensuring that the valley stayed peaceful.

Now his reports were a bit worrying. It seemed the ressources of the valley had started to decay. Some children were poisoned. There were also a few inexplicable deaths. If one was to look at each of them separately, it would seem they were all isolated events but on the grand scale of thing, there was no way those events would not be connected together. Someone was deliberately sabotaging the Valley.

Since his disciple had joined the Valley, those events occurred. Was she an harbinger of bad luck? Still the Master of the Valley did not regret saving her, in all those years of existence, she was the only thing that had succeeded in sparking his interest.

As if she knew the Master was thinking about her, Lily woke up all sore. She was grateful she was still alive. Damn Master, teaching her such a deadly technique! Was he after her life?!? But she was a bit disoriented. Where was she? On a very hard and cold ground but she was covered with a warm blanket but she smelled really bad.

" Slept well?" The cold voice startled Lily.

"M...Master? What are you doing here?"

"You are in this Lord's office..." The voice was even more colder.

Lily felt again quite embarrassed. She was the one in his office but she had to ask him why he was there....

"Why am I in your office Master?"

"Still not up and greeting this Lord?"

On those words, Lily jumped like her life depended and promptly greeted her Master.

"This disciple has been impolite. Please forgive me."

"Do you have any recollection of what happened?"

Lily slowly remembered she had almost died but that she also had destroyed a beautiful garden...would she get punished for it?

"Master I was just practicing one of the technique you imparted in the book. Who would have think it had such an effect?"

"Do you know how you escape death?" The Master was now eying her reactions as if he was on the lookout for something.

"With my luck?" Lily tentatively answered. She had no idea how she managed to push through. When she was vomitting blood all over she was sure it was the last day of her life.

The whole time the Master had not looked at her at all and had given his attention to his report. But when he heard the idiotic answer, he could not resist glancing at her.

The guard had mentionned string of lights envelopping his disciple to protect her from harm and that's ultimately what saved her. Using his martial art, he had scanned her body but still could not find the source of those strings of lights. He initially thought she had a charm but nothing of the sort was found. She also not seemed to be aware of it.

"Indeed you have great luck. You should return to your room to wash up and rest fully for the next 3 days."

"Yes Master, this disciple will obey." Lily promptly bid farewell and went back to her room. She was exhausted and she could no longer stand the smell that was emanating from her. She wondered how the Master had endured.
