Story
Chapter: 31
Realizing that he had almost killed Richard just now, Inorim decided to apologize for his mistake.
"Sorry for my sudden outburst, but I was fooled into a trap by these old geezers and could not control myself for a moment.
That was not a significant moment in my life. I just knew something that I should not have known. I was too conceited to think they could do anything to me. The old geezers were nothing more than old people at the end of their journey. With no chance of a breakthrough in their remaining lives. I was many times stronger than they ever would be, but they should have thought I was too strong and they bonded together and acted against me.
I was too arrogant and accepted a simple mission, and did not realize that it was a trap. As they could not kill me, their only chance was to seal me, which they did, as you can see.
The mission was supposed to be relatively easy, and I only needed to look if I can find some newfound magical crystal in here. Some fortunate one found such ones and talked to the relatives of the old geezers to boast about his findings, which I just found out much later.
The mission was handed to me by a once trustful guy, but he obviously has forsaken me for a higher political position."
Inorim let out a sigh as he said this and continued with his story, after a few moments to not dwell on things that had taken place a long time ago.
"It was quite the shock to me when I was sealed inside here. The old geezers and my friend at that time gloated about my misfortune and even when they could not kill me. They could let me rot down here.
But what Jason, the guy who handed me the mission, did not think of, was that the old bastards just used him and when they reached their goal, they would surely abandon him.
I am sure that he lived not much longer after I got sealed inside here.
Apparently, this sealing array is from ancient times, and even after all this time that I am here, I have no clue how to get out of here. But once I can leave, I will take my revenge."
Inorim said the last part with so much hatred and conviction in his words that Richard felt like it was some kind of law that would surely happen one day.
Richard was impressed that Inorim told him all of that. He thought that the reason for all of this should be that he has been alone for too long and is now happy to talk to someone other than to himself.
'Judging from his words, he should not be a bad person, but that's another reason to be cautious of him. I should not believe anything he says. Moreover, I can only try to get as much information out of him as I can. Maybe he can help me get out of here and find my friends.'
Richard was thinking after he listened to Inorim's story and said then.
"I am sure that you will get your revenge one day."
"Yeah, that is as sure as the sea is blue and the grass is green, but I am completely restrained by these damned chains. That really sucks. I am stuck here for such a long time and have not understood a thing about this array. I am, or I was, one of the most powerful beings on earth, but only after I ended up in this particular situation did I realize that I also am a frog in a well.
The one who made this place should be many times stronger than I am."
"Hahahahahahaha" Inorim said and then broke out into full-blown laughter, which sounded like he regretted something.
"It's quite hilarious. At my peak state, I thought no one could do anything to me, and only after I stepped into this place did I realize how wrong I was. However, this also opened my eyes and let me live through all this time. The understanding that I have found a chance to get stronger again.
At my peak, I thought I reached everything that I could have and thought that I was the strongest, but now I know that this was a complete misunderstanding. There is forever something above and we only need to keep looking ahead. Never make the same mistake that I did, kiddo.
Never are too overconfident, this will bite you in the ass in the future. I am sure of it.
That's my advice for you, kid. It is nice that I can speak with a human soul again. It gets quite boring in here."
Inorim gave Richard this advice, who thought about it and told himself that he will be more careful in general. He then said in a sincere voice to Inorim.
"Thank you for your advice. I will be more careful from now on."
"No need for that, just don´t forget that you also have to trust your own gut feeling when working with people. If you trust no one or only think that they could betray you, then you will not live a happy life.
It was my own fault that I run into this trap and I had lived a long time in solitude before that even happened. I did not have many friends and most of them died as I lived on and grew stronger.
I was so set on trying to improve myself that I lost most of the people whom I loved. After that, I lost touch with most others. That also played a big part in my entrapment. If I had not ignored the signs of Jason being against me and feeling like everything was fine. I must say I was quite happy when he entrusted me with this mission.
However, that made his betrayal so much worse."
Inorim got one with his lecture, and Richard thought he should repay him for this without doing too much. Therefore, he told him a thing, which he found out about this place.
"Senior, I guess the time you will see the outside world will not be too far away. The array outside is riddled with cracks and I don't think that it will hold on for much longer."
Hearing Richard's words, Inorim got stunned for a split second, but he immediately focused and let his soul scout out the array on the outside. He did not do this often because he would get a backslash from the array and had not done it for quite some time. The only thing that was always active was his passive soul scan. It could relay bits of little details to him, and because of that, he was aware of Richard's group inside the mountain.
Scanning the array in-depth, which took only a split second. After that, he prepared himself for the backslash and the chains responded in glowing brightly. This time his soul could withstand it much easier than last time, and he was now sure that the array had weakened considerably.
"Hahahahaha That's superb news. Thanks for this little boy. As things are now, I should only need about 15-20 years to break out of this cave. The array is damaged beyond belief and the backslash that I receive from it is so much weaker than before."
Richard heard this and was stunned. 'Huh, that means a being of his caliber will run around earth in a short amount of time. How would someone be able to contend with him? I hope he will not destroy everything in his path. He sure would be able to, and he also has no attachments to this world anymore. That could really spell trouble. I can only try my best to find out more about the magical aspect of this planet. If someone like Inorim exists, then there should be other strong wizards found on this planet.
Interesting indeed, but now I need to get to the most important aspect right now.'
"Senior, that is good news for you indeed.
15 years should be nothing to you but for me, these years would be a lot. I don't want to stay here for this long. Therefore, could you help me find my friends and show me a way out of here? The fog in here is like a maze and I am not sure if I can find my friends without your help."
Richard asked in a sincere voice and bowed down a bit to show his sincerity.
Inorim heard this and smiled at his question. After that, he answered. "I was planning on doing that after you spoke to me, anyway. But now that you told me such an important detail about the array, I will do more than that."
Inorim then looked at one particular point a few meters to the right and spoke. "I know why you are all in here. The plant you are looking for is quite rare, even in this place, and the last one grows right beside me. You should take it back to your friend. The poison his bloodline was inflicted with in the past was quite the vicious one. But after treating it, it will bring many benefits to the healed one.
It's like Karma. His family has amassed quite a sum of it when they were afflicted by the poison and after it is cured, it will transform the one who was afflicted with the poison.
You can look forward to it."
Richard heard this and then followed his glance and looked at an Imaginera plant. It looked much better than he had heard from Rodolfo's description and was moving forward to get it.
Suddenly, when he squatted down to pluck it, he was stunned when Inorim was shouting at him.
"What are you doing, fuuuuu if you pluck it like that, then it will die a split second later and it would be completely wasted. You need to use a golden knife to cut it above the ground and that needs to be done in one move. Then place it into a case made of silver to contain its effects. What the hell are you learning in your school. That's supposed to be common knowledge."
Richard was stunned when he heard this and could only do what Inorim had suggested and cut the plant with a golden knife that he had in his pouch because he liked to look at it.
It let him remember he was not a normal human anymore, and he could now buy such a knife made of gold, which was hard, durable, and did not behave like normal muggle gold.
The plant was harvested and then put into a silver case, which got stored inside his pouch.
Richard thought back to what else Inorim had asked him about and answered him.
"Thanks for that advice. If we had harvested it like that, then it wouldn´t have helped Kyle one bit, good to know such things. And like I said earlier, currently, I am attending no school at all. School only begins for us wizards at the age of 11. Not one bit earlier and only lasts till we are 18. After that, you can make your masteries or work. Everything that I know at this point is more or less self-taught."
Inorim heard this and grew shocked to what point the schooling system has fallen in the years when he was gone. He then said.
"Outrageous, magical beings should start to learn about magic and how to use it by starting school at 6 years of age. How else will they develop their magical core to a stage where they can cast and amass common knowledge like to harvest such plants?"
His face was filled with anger at how that could have happened.
Richard was not knowing how to answer without being embarrassed about these hard facts and told him the truth about it.
"It looks like the only truly magical beings are now humans and every other magical creature is more or less discriminated against. They all have not much to say anymore.
School starts at the age of 11 because that is the age of the first magical maturity, and wizards and witches can use a wand to channel their magic from that point onwards. At least that is what the books say. I disagree with that statement and started learning magic from an early age.
Also, I am sure that most of the useful knowledge was lost in the last few centuries, and the magical world that I know of is now not even really trying to improve itself. But that's only my viewpoint, and I have seen nothing."
Inorim heard this and could only sigh again. "Sigh, that the magical world has fallen to a state where they need a tool to channel their magic into. That is an all-time low. But nothing I should care about right now. That is your adventure to deal with. At least for the time being.
The way to your friends will show itself to you.
The last piece of advice I will give you is that you should be careful with the "special energy" that you have. Many powerful people will come to knock on your door if they find out that you have it. Be careful and do not reveal it to anyone.
2 months ago, I could conceal its presence, but I cannot help you anymore with that. I also don´t do things casually and you owe me one for this. Do not ask about it. I will not tell you any more than this. It would not be helpful to you at this point in time and only invite more trouble than you can deal with.
You should go back to find your friends and we will surely see each other again.
I wish you goodbye."
Inorim said this and then closed his eyes to reclaim his spent strength and deal with this array.
Inorim then thought. 'Quite the interesting kid, self-taught along with this energy. Really interesting. We will surely be able to see each other again.'
"Thank you, and I also have the feeling that we will see each other again." Richard thanked Inorim and when he wanted to ask how he should find his friends, there appeared a map in his head that showed him in which way he had to go.
Richard was stumped when he heard Inorim's warning about his golden energy and was now much more curious about it, but knew he needed to be much more careful from now on. It was a good thing that it somehow fused with his body and it could not be sensed by other people. He made sure to find a way to mask it even more and search for a way to control it.
Looking at Inorim for one last time and after bowing down for a bit, to show how thankful he was for his advice and help.
Afterward, he then got in the direction where the map pointed while he thought.
'Inorim should be quite the strong one to project this map inside my mind without me noticing a thing and without alerting the chains. Marvelous. I cannot wait to be able to do something like that, but for that, leglimency has to be studied.'
While he thought this, he made his way back into the fog and kept walking for a few minutes. After that, he found a sulking Sniffy that was sitting down on the floor.
Sniffy was sitting at this spot for an hour already and was thinking of ways to get out of this thick fog, but was not having any good ideas. She found some odd creatures lurking around and after getting rid of them; she got tired and was resting in this place. Right after she wanted to carry on and find her way out of this maze again, she then heard a familiar voice calling out to her.
"Hoi, it's good to see you again, Sniffy."
Sniffy got stunned at this sudden voice and turned around a second later. Proceeding to rush madly at Richard, whom she hugged hard. While she was hugging Richard, she could only let out some sobbing voices, which turned into a bit of crying.
"Sob, sob, I was so scared when I lost you two, and when I searched for you and could not find you, I could only carry on. That was not the worst part. I found these weird creatures who attacked me all the time, but they stopped attacking me about an hour ago."
Sniffy told him that while she hugged him and Richard thought while scratching himself behind the ear.
'I just forget that she is also only 9 years old. That was a time when I got easily scared. I keep forgetting that I am supposed to be nine years old. I need to think of that issue a bit more. And the time where the attacks stopped should be the time when I talked to Inorim. Is there some connection there? And weird creatures attacking her?'
"Everything is ok now." Richard then soothed her for a few minutes and then said. "Let's go find Kyle and get out of here. And what weird creatures?"
Now much calmer, she could only nod and then they both moved in the direction where Kyle was at and Sniffy told Richard about these weird creatures. Who apparently were beings completely made of bones and attacked her all the time.
She could only destroy them with earth spells, but after some time, they reappeared again, completely reformed. Seeing that, Sniffy then changed her battle strategy and sealed them inside vines, and moved on after that. That was the only thing she could think of, and it seemed like it worked to get away from them.
They moved for another few minutes and then Kyle came into view, or at least in Richards, Sniffy could not see him, yet.
Hoi guys, I am back.
Sry I had to work a lot these 3 days and am only now able to write again.
I was only working for the last 3 days and after work I got back to the hotel to sleep. I hate such days. But a job is a job.
