Chapter 11-The Vineyard

I was awakened by an incessant drip, it was not very often, maybe every 5 or 7 seconds a new drop fell. When I barely opened my eyes and could see where I was, I realized that there was a person in front of me, the lack of light did not let me see his face, I turned to see my body and I noticed that it was somehow attached to a wall, totally naked, desperate I tried to let go and I was even willing to start screaming, then at that moment that person placed his hand on my mouth and said in a low voice trying to calm me down:

- ????: calm down, I'll help you get out of here, look around you ...

Without much choice, I did what he told me, I don't know who the hell he was but if he was going to help me I wouldn't put obstacles in his way. My eyes were forced to analyze the place, I could see that there were other people, all the same as me, attached to a wall with a track on the arm that led to a container on the ground. There was no distinction, you could see men, women, the elderly, perhaps the only thing you didn't see were children, but outside of that, the people there were very diverse, I didn't know what the hell was going on but something was clear I wouldn't stay there. The subject kept letting go of me while saying:

- ????: If you don't want to end up like them, keep quiet. You're in luck, if it weren't because you're here thanks to me, I might not have come looking for you.

When he released me, he pulled the track from my arm and I said:

-Brandon: I do not know what is happening, but where I see it, nothing here is fine, we can not leave them.

The man turned around and started to walk away telling me:

- ????: for them it is too late, their blood has been completely drained, they have all died. Now if you don't want to be put there again, get out of here.

I followed the man along a corridor that from the number of intersections and turns seemed more like a maze than a path. The stones from which the walls were formed were hardly the only thing I could see, as if it were some kind of castle, also feel how my feet sank into the puddles that formed on the floor as leaks entered from the ceiling . Once in a while the man stopped me before a guard we ran into could see us. Then we finally reached a 4-way intersection, there the subject stretched his arm and said:

- ????: go straight this path, it leads to some stairs that lead out of the vineyard, with the rain no one will see you, go to the town that is seen in the distance, there you will be safe for now.

I turned to the direction he told me and ran, then after 5 steps or so I stopped and turned.

-Brandon: Thank you.

But when I realized he was no longer there, he disappeared almost like a ghost without leaving a trace or making the slightest noise. Without wasting any more time I ran as fast as I could, when I left I noticed that it was night and it was raining with great force, with so much noise it was sure that nobody would see me, so I did not care about anything, I ran towards the first light that I saw. far away, it would surely be the town the subject was talking about.

My desperation to escape was so abnormal that more than once I fell to the ground, slipping through so many mud puddles on the road. The path was full of dead bushes, trees in the same condition and sand that possibly if it weren't for the rain would be dry, for a moment I turned around because I seemed to feel that someone was coming behind me, but my sight could only get to notice what I had been seeing for a long time running and at the end a great castle which was illuminated by lights in 4 or 5 rooms and the rays that from time to time illuminated the sky.

A loud sound distracted me from what I was doing, it was different, it wasn't the roar of thunder, it was a shot that had whizzed past me. Unarmed and totally naked, my first thought was to get back on my way and run.

Everything made me desperate, I didn't know where I was, I didn't know what was happening and now they were shooting at me, damn I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. The shots were made more and more in succession as I approached the light that was already taking the shape of a town, it was as if the shooter was also despairing, then I saw a stone bridge that connected with the town, I started to cross it And then I slipped and fell to the ground for the last time.

I was sure, nothing would save me from death anymore, I just stayed there and waited for the next shot. Miraculously, at least 5 minutes passed and there were no more shots, I could not believe it, somehow he had saved me, I did not understand it but I would not waste time, I got up and then I went to the nearest house, next to him there was a kind of barn, seek shelter inside, there were three cows, which barely paid attention to me, I took advantage and threw myself in a corner to rest until the rain ended and dawn, perhaps the next day I could find out what the hell was happening, or perhaps I had the illusion that it was all a strange dream and when I fell asleep I would return to reality.

TL;DR: Not Shakespeare, not complex, but fun and easy to read. Come support! As the translator, I've enjoyed translating this novel and I hope to bring the essence of what the author has tried to portray into the chapters you will read. To sum it up in 3 words: Mechs! Explosions! Science! To be perfectly honest, this novel is about your typically overpowered protagonist who does get looked down from time to time but always overcomes the odds with his own special power. He's abit more mature having grown up on his own and just a littttttttle bit dense. Although it always ends up with him winning, it always happens in an interesting (subjective) and fun way that makes me enjoy reading this. The novel has elements of lighthearted comedy from time to time and I do chuckle at how direct the humor is. It's not as smart as say WMW nor does it weave an intricate story much like Ergen's novels. More importantly, its fun and it doesn't try to hide it.
