Chapter 9

April's POV

I open the door, making the bells jingle, as I look around, finding the person I'm looking for smiling at me

I smile back, and walk towards the table. Sky pulls a chair out for me, and I sit down

"So, why do you want to speak with me? I don't have all day", I ask, not bothering to beat around the Bush

"Babe chill!!!, you remind me of someone, you know"

I don't need to be a genius to know who he's talking about

"So, what's up? How have you been?", he asks, all playfulness gone now

"I'm good", I say, looking out the window. Thankfully, our table is just beside the window, "I'm more than good, I'm happy"

That caught him off guard

"Were you always unhappy back then"

"I don't know", I tried thinking about it. Fine, Adrian did things, a lot of things that hurt me, but was I unhappy?, "I guess I was"

"We really need something to distract us from this sappiness, do they sell alcohol?", he asks, and I shake my head, no, "Great!!!, no distraction", he says, making me smile at the way he slumped back in his chair, like it's the end of the world

"You can try their burger and coffee, you can even request for any fillings you want. They're pretty good"

"You come here often", he asks, more of a statement than a question

I nod, "yeah, almost every Friday with Sam", I say, making his eyes light up, as he stands straight. No need to say, with Jordan also

"Really?!!!"

I look at him strangely, and he seems to get that I'm confused, so he stands up, "I'll order something for us", he walked away, making me look around. The Fountain Fall's a bookshop cafe, and it's really old, but it holds a special place in my heart, because this was were I met Sammy. Those dark days

"A hamburger and an americano for you", he places them in front of me. I sip my coffee, when I hear a shutter sound. I glare at Sky, knowing he took a photo of me, "I'm sorry!!", he quickly says, "Just one more", he says, and continues taking more without my permission

"Stop, stop, stop!!!", he doesn't, until I start laughing unknowingly at how stupid he's acting

He eventually stops, and we start eating our burgers in silence, enjoying the view of the fountain outside, the water's sparkling because of the sun, it was quiet until Skyler decides to break the peaceful silence

"I missed you, just so you know", he says, making me look at him, to see sincerity in his eyes, "and not just me, even the whole staff, the group as a whole"

I sigh, putting my cup down, "I miss everyone too, life just had to be like this"

He nods, "you missed everyone? Even Adrian?"

I look at him, as he raised an eyebrow, "Don't start now", I say, taking a bite out of my burger

"I don't just get it, I'm trying hard to understand, but I still can't, the April I knew would take bullets for Adrian, so what happened?!!"

I shrug, "that's what I'm supposed to do, it's my job, isn't it?"

"Don't give me that crap, April. We both know that's crap"

I roll my eyes at him, "are you here as a friend or as Adrian's lawyer?, so I can know which side I'm with"

He opens his mouth to talk, but gets interrupted by someone

"Maam!!"

The attendant walk towards our table, "Good afternoon maam", she greets, too hyper for my liking, if you ask me. We're not even close, so she behaving like we do talk is kinda weird, but me being a polite me greets back, "Good afternoon to you"

I expect her to go away, but she's still standing here, "do you need anything?" I ask, just to be sure. Skyler's just there eating his burger and looking at us, like he's watching a drama

"Oh!!, yes, I can see that you didn't come with your family this time", she says, letting her eyes check Skyler out, "is this gentleman related to you?"

"Excuse me, whatever your name is", I say, as quiet as I can be, "if you don't want to kiss your job goodbye, I suggest you leave this table, now", I say, already feeling irritated at her attitude

She huffs and stomps her feet and walk away, but not before rubbing Sky's shoulders

"Wow, that was savage!!", He says after a while

"I'm surprised you didn't try to flirt with her back", I say, making him gasp dramatically, "what's everyone's probs with me these days? I'm a changed person now, seriously!!", he exclaims, when he sees my disbelieving look

"Yeah, I'll pretend to believe"

"But can I ask a question?", he says, as I put the burger wrapper on the table

I nod, "you've been asking me lot of questions already, so ask"

"Okay, what's your relationship with Samuel?, are you guys together?, is he in a relationship with anyone?, and lastly, is he um..., is he into guys?, he asks, whispering the last part

"That was more than a question, you know"

"Sorry", he laughs nervously, rubbing the back of his neck

"First, can you refer to him as Sammy, when you're talking to me. I'm always forgetting that his name is actually Samuel"

"Okay"

"Then for the questions: he's my best friend, we're not together in that sense you're thinking about, no, he's single, as at this morning, but change is constant, the last part, yes", I finish

"Really??!!!", he asks, looking too happy to hear my answers

"Yeah, but he's out of your league, so just leave him alone

"What do you mean", he asks, cooling down a bit

I don't know how to answer, so I check the time on my wristwatch, "Wow!!, I've spent close to two hours with you already"

He gives me his trademark smug smile, "Oh really?!!, well, what can I say? I'm a gem"

"I gotta go", I say, standing up. He stands up too, and we both go outside. "Today was nice, honestly", I tell him truthfully

"Thanks for giving me the opportunity", he says, engulfing me in a hug I wasn't expecting, "Give Adrian a chance, please. You know what I mean. He hasn't been the same without you"

He releases me and pecks me on the cheek, "See you next time"

"I'm home", I shout as I enter my second house, well, Sammy's

"Mummy!!!", I open my arms to catch him

"Wow!!, my baby keeps growing bigger", I say, as I place kisses scattering kisses all over his face, "where's your uncle?"

"In the TV room, we're watching Spongebob" he says dragging me there

"Baby, I have to freshen up, are you done with your homework?

"Yep, and I had my first cooking class today, and our teacher is a grandpa", he says, following me to my room, "He doesn't even remember my name"

"Really?!! Your school wouldn't employ someone inadequate", I say, removing my sneakers, then my shirt

"But he keeps calling me Char, and that's even a girl's name, cause he said I remind him of his wife, and her name is Charlotte. We asked him where she is, but he said she went far away. I know he means that she's dead", he says, pouting as he slumps on the bed, "That's so sad"

"Yeah, it is. So what did you cook today?"

"Grandpa Richard taught us how to bake cupcakes today, I wrote down the recipe, he's coming again next week"

Funny that he actually has a grandpa, that's also Richard

"Uncle Sammy ate all the ones I baked for you!!!", he shouts, because I'm already in the bathroom

"Tell him to prepare for grocery shopping!!!", I shout too, from the bathroom, "Wake him up if he's sleeping"

"Uncle Sammy!!!"

There goes trouble
