At first, when the burly man sees Eleven, he thinks of Eleven as a boy, who was stealing from him. But then from her looks he realises that the girl was probably in danger, because of the blood.

In short, what unfolded was as follows.

Benny, the owner, greets her and asks if she's lost. Eleven, who is clearly scared and hungry, asks for food and a place to stay. Benny, sensing that something is not quite right, sits her down and offers her a meal.

In the end, Benny is shot and killed by the men in front of Eleven, who is forced to flee the diner and continue on her own.
