Chapter 18 (Sunshades)

A man wearing a long coat and dark sunshades steps out. He begins walking around and the rest of them surrounding us still have their guns pointed at me and Skylar.

My subconscious appears beside him and just as I expected they can't see him. 

"Don't tell them anything Jayden, it's not time for this world to know that there are extraterrestrial creatures. If you tell them a thing it might cause chaos and panic on this planet." My subconscious instructs me and I stare at it, without saying a word. There should be a way for me to communicate with it without moving my lips. 

"Can you hear me?" I ask it through my mind and it nods. 

"I can hear you." It replies to me. I knew that there was a way for me to communicate it through my mind since it was made out of me, I think it is sort of a neuro link that only the both of us could use, so that means not even Skylar can make out what we are saying now.

"How can I get out of this situation?" I ask it and I turn and my eyes meet with my parents' eyes. They are standing close to the staircase holding each other, scared and confused. 

Mom. Dad. 

I can see the uncertainty in my mom's eyes and the worry on my dad's face, I don't know how they have been coping with all of this. I feel very awkward, this is all my fault if I hadn't overreacted and remained calm back then when I newly founded this power all this should have not happened.

I acted unwisely and rashly.

"Kill them all," it mutters with an impish grin on its face and I glare at it with a glint of fear in my eyes. 

I can sense the bloodlust reeking out of it and my eyes slowly become wide. 

Why did the aura around it suddenly change? 

How does it want me to kill all these people in front of my parents?

While still in my train of thought, it chuckles and the dark red aura surrounding it reduces.

"I'm just kidding," it jokes and comes closer to me, "give them a valid reason why you were missing for a week and no matter what they do to you don't tell them a thing."

"What about Skylar? What if they see that she doesn't look human?" I ask it and I become more relaxed, but I know that the statement it made earlier isn't a mere bluff. But that isn't my main focus now, my main focus is Skylar, her outlandish look is the problem here, what lie can I tell them that will convince them that she is human even though she has pale white skin, silver-coloured hair and bright blue eyes. Convincing them will be like trying to have a conversation with a tree.

"That's your problem Jayden." Its grin got wider, "see you later Jayden." It waves its hands in the air sluggishly and disappears into thin air.

I grit my teeth.

"Jayden Russell, I am Kelvin Blue a senior detective and a member of the country's intelligence Association. We've heard reports of strange occurrences happening around you, so we would like to ask you a few questions." Mr Blue intones with a Spanish accent and I try to conceal all nervousness welling up in me. "Where have you been these past few weeks?" 

If they can see the slightest weakness in me, it'll be problematic, I have to sound genuine and confident. 

"My friends and I are working on a project out of town so I joined them, that's why I have not been here for a while." I lie and I grit my teeth because of how stupid I sound. I know that my mom and dad will be disappointed in me for leaving the house without telling them. 

"Who is the person behind you?" He questions walking to Skylar. My heart begins to beat faster and my throat becomes dry. What will happen if he sees her? Only a glance at her will tell you that she isn't human.

He stretches out his hand reaching for the hoodie and as each second passes by my heartbeat increases.

He removes the hoodie and Skylar's face is revealed. I remain calm and think of the next thing I'll do if they try to attack Skylar.

Mr Blue turns to me and he asks with a voice as thick as the Amazon forest. "Is it a movie project you and your friends are working on?" 

My eyes widen for a moment and a sly smirk crawls to my lips.

He just made things easier for me.

"Yes, we are making a movie and she is wearing a costume representing an alien figure," I tell him and it seems like he is buying all my lies. 

"Then I'd like to ask you this, what happened in the city? We have recordings of two unusual-looking people fighting and they destroyed some parts of the city. Do you know anything about that?" He questioned. 

That must have been when I and Skylar were fighting they must have caught it on camera, if they did that meant they could recognise Skylar from the video, but I think that is not the case, she was moving at an incredible speed so it might be difficult for the camera to capture a clear picture of her face and if it had did they must have arrested her, but they haven't so we are not their main suspect.

"No, I don't know anything about that." 

"We were out of town when it happened," Skylar adds and I smile. She sounds like a human and this might make Mr Blue not suspect that she is an alien.

"I see." He removes the sunshades revealing his forest-green eyes. He raises his hand in the air and they lower their guns. "You are still under your parents so anytime you are leaving the house they ought to know. And how important is that project that it'll make you miss school?" 

"You shall see, sir," my grin becomes wider and he stares at me for a second.

"Yes, I'd love to see how the movie turned out to be." He tells me calmly and turn to my parent.

"Your son doesn't seem to be a suspect but we'll still keep an eye on him, something doesn't sound right here." He turns back to me and he tilts his head in a weird angle. "And kid stay out of trouble."

He chuckles and my eyes become large like wide saucers, what is this sudden behaviour of him? His vibe just suddenly changed...I have nothing to worry about him, I'll clean up every trace that might lead to him finding out that I have superpowers and Skylar is an alien.

They leave the house and I sigh with relief this was easier than I thought. Now that I am done facing government agencies, it is now time for me to face my parents.

I gulp. 

Did they also buy the lie I told Mr Blue?

"Jay," my mom calls out with tears in her eyes and rushes toward me. 

"Yes?" I mumble with sadness in my eyes. She pulls me into a hug and my dad joins us. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you this sad." I apologise and their arms tighten around me. 

"It alright Jayden, we are glad to have you back." They say in unison and my heart sank. If they are this sad about me leaving then how will they react when they learn about the heavy fate of my shoulders? I will soon begin my journey to defeat Hermedox, to build a peaceful universe for everyone I love and they might not see me for a long time.

I tighten my grip on them and my eyes become glossy, "I miss you guys too."
