4 Chapter 4 - Log Out

Chapter 4 – Log Out

Glen went to the only inn in the village and entered it. When he got inside, he was surprised because, at the dining area, there was a television showing the news.

'What? I thought this was a medieval-style game. So, it is a modern style game?' Glen thought. He stared at the television for a bit before he went to the counter.

"Welcome~ How may I help you?" An auntie greeted Glen. She looked like the employee or perhaps even the owner of the inn.

Glen glanced at the signboard behind the auntie and a room for a day was 10G. Quite cheap but with only 100G at hand, he could stay at most 10 days or 10 hours in real-time.

"A single room for one day," Glen spoke and paid 10G. He was given his key room and was led to his room. Bubbly followed behind.

Glen got inside the room and it was fully furnished with modern stuff. The bed, lamp, table, and everything was modern.

"Then, this village must be quite poor because the building looks old," Glen mumbled. From the outside, all the buildings in the village were old. Some were made with concrete or stones but most of them were woods.

Not that buildings with woods were bad but the woods looked old and unsafe. They needed a lot of maintenance and repair.

The inn was one of the few buildings built with concrete but the others were woods. If the game used the medieval setup, this kind of village was considered good but for a modern setup, the village was on the poor side.

Glen checked the bathroom and there was a toilet, shower, and bathtub. "This room cost only 10G?" He was a bit happy. 10G was not even a cent in the real world and for this kind of room, it would cost hundreds of Baz for a night in the real world.

After he was done looking around the room, Glen searched for a container to upgrade Bubbly. However, there was none available in the room. He went to the counter and asked the auntie for one. He immediately got it and went back to his room.

Glen filled the container with 20 liters of tap water in the container. Since there was no measuring equipment around, he used a bottle of 1.5L soft drink he bought at the dining room for 1G for measurement.

After he had filled all the water in, Glen looked at Bubbly. "Bubbly, get in. This will help you become stronger. You need to soak your whole body in the water and never come out until the upgrade is complete. Understand?"

"Buu~ Buu~" Bubbly answered happily. It floated above the water for a bit and curiously observed the water. He lowered his body and touched the water slightly. After that, Bubbly floated up again. He tried doing the same thing again a few more times.

As Bubbly was sure that the water was fine, he slowly soaked in the water. Glen watched Bubbly's antics silently. He did not reprimand Bubbly for taking too much time to enter the water because he knew that Bubbly was being careful.

Now that Bubbly was fine, he had nothing else to do. "Should I go watch the television in the dining room?" Glen mumbled but then, he got a message.

[Master Glen, a customer is here] the AI that helps with the internet café messages him.

Glen looked at Bubbly for a bit and decided to log out. Since they were inside a room, there was nothing to worry about. Glen logged out of the game.

He took off the headset from his head and saw a young man staring at him in front of the counter. They looked at each other and smiled.

"I am sorry," Glen apologized. He should not play the game while working. Unless there was another employee in the café, he should focus on his job.

"What game are you playing?" the young man asked while smiling. Since he came in the morning, he was not a school student. Also, Glen could see that he was a bit older than him, maybe two or three years older.

"Beast Life," Glen smiled. "Computer or VR headset?" he asked.

The young man gave the internet café's member card and replied, "VR. I am playing Beast Life too. How far are you now?" the young man asked.

"I just started playing a few minutes ago. I am still at the early village and I just tame my first beast," Glen replied as he took the member card and scanned it with the scanning device. The young man's data appeared on the screen and he added it to a VR headset in the café.

"Oo but even if you start late, it will not make that much different from those who start from day one. Our beast is still at the Colorless Stage Rank 1 even though two months had passed in the game," the young man sighed.

He meant to say that it was hard to level up the beasts.

"Is it that hard to level up?" Glen asked and he gave the member card back to the young man.

"Yes. It is really hard. If your beast's talent is lower grade like Grade E, you will take a looooooong time to increase the advancement meter. Also, you cannot increase the advancement meter with only fighting, food is important too. Only specific food is suitable for specific beast," the young man spoke.

"Buying suitable food costs a lot of money and searching for one is hard too if the food is rare," the young man complained.

Glen smiled and he felt lucky that from Bubbly's data, he only needed water as food. Higher quality water was better but if Glen did not find good quality water, normal water was fine too.

"By the way, where are auntie and uncle? Did they go somewhere?" the young man asked. It looked like he was a regular customer.

"…" Glen was silent for a bit before he answered, "They passed away during winter break last year."

The young man was shocked. "I am sorry," the young man looked apologetic. It was winter break and thus, he went somewhere that time. So, the news about Glen's parents did not reach his ear.

"It is fine," Glen smiled. "You must be a regular here. I don't think I ever saw you before," Glen spoke.

"I usually come in the morning. You must be the eldest right? I remembered uncle and auntie said that you guys are still in school," the young man smiled. "You are not going to college? I remembered they said that you are not bad in school."

"I decide to continue with the business," Glen replied.

"Oo. You don't need to worry much, your family's internet café has a lot of customers," the young man smiled. "Well then, you can continue with your work," the young man left the counter. "Ah! I want a cup of instant noodles," the young man spoke.

"Okay," Glen smiled.

"I should play the game at night," he mumbled while looking at the young man heading to a VR device. Glen left the counter and prepared the instant noodle for the young man.

After that, more and more customers arrived. Since Glen was busy with the café, he did not continue playing Beast Life. Almost at midnight, he closed the internet café.

He cleaned the café for a bit and finished an hour later. After that, he got up to the second floor and checked on his siblings. His younger sister, Grace was sleeping while Grin was not yet sleeping.

"Homework?" Glen asked. Grin glanced at Glen and nodded. "Don't stay up too late," Glen spoke and he went to his room. He took a shower and lied on his bed.

"I should continue playing Beast Life," Glen spoke and wore the VR headset. Before he logged in, he set an alarm clock to wake him up in the morning.

When someone played VR games, they were sleeping. So, even if they played until morning, they would not lose their sleep because they were sleeping.

However, the device was also equipped with safety measures if a player played for too long to prevent health issues. When that happened, the device would force logout the player, and the player would not be able to log in for a whole day.

Glen logged into the game and he immediately appeared inside the room. However, he was shocked to see that a girl was eating a piece of bread in the room. Glen and the girl looked at each other.

The girl's face turned red and Glen knew he was in trouble. The girl wanted to scream but Glen immediately got out of the room.

"What? What? What? What happens? Why is there a girl in my room? No, is it really my room?" Glen looked at the room number and it was indeed his room. He was confused as to what had happened but he immediately caught on to something.

"A few hours in real-time but that will be a few days in the game… ****! I only pay for one day!" Glen was shocked and he never thought that the game would be this punctual.

The door's handle moved as the girl wanted to come out. Glen knew that the girl wanted to kill him and he ran downstairs to the counter. He arrived at the counter and the inn auntie saw him and raised her brow.

"Oh, you finally come back?" The auntie glared at Glen.

"…" Glen did not know what to reply.
