Chapter 49: Mad Research
It took the sadists one week to break the will of the spies and make them submit to Alexander. The submission brought immense benefits to the kingdom as a whole. Alexander had uploaded the newly acquired advance knowledge in the fire of civilization and simply waited for the brilliant minds of his kingdom to invent new things.
The runic circle to change any energy to magical energy was easily acquired as the Indian magi feel light headed in the less magically denser western part of the world. It was similar to the symptoms shown by the people climbing the Mt. Everest when they reach high altitudes. The Indian magi were brought up in a magically rich environment so they feel various difficulties in moving through the western countries. Their robes are lined with a less powerful runic circle to convert the energy present around them to magical energy in order to make them comfortable. Since the runic circle is cleverly hidden among the other runes lining the robes, the spies themselves didn't know where it was. The robes were special as they had a self destruction mechanism in case of tempering with the security measures. The researchers were not able to decode the runes as they were written in ancient sanskrit which was apparently a more older form of the languauge in this world. Using the knowledge available to them, they were only able to understand some of the runes. These runes were more powerful and useful than the current runes used by the kingdom.
The scientists wanted to combine the all the runic languages but were unable to do so but the Sanskrit runes bridged the gap between the different runes and a new rudimentaey runic language was born unique to the kingdom. Alexander claimed the robes as a part of the kingdom and copied down the design of the runes and their effects to the extent he could understand and forwarded the data to the scientists for the study. Alexander returned to them the robes for study. As Alexander was busy with his meditation, he did not pay much attention to this matter. Alexander had also used the lesser magic converting runic circle, as named by the nerds of his kingdom, to increase the magical density around him. This made his rate of progress increased by 3 times.
Alexander had awakened 213,000 magic cells before the sadists were unleashed on the poor spies. It took additional two weeks after the submission of spies to successfully study and implement the runic circles. During that time period of 3 weeks, Alexander further awakened 210,000 magic cells. Alexander had let out tears of frustration as he had not even awakened 0.0000001 % of his cells. Alexander didn't know when he would enter the 1 percent threshold but he still pushed on.
The runic circle increased the awakening to 210,000 magic cells per week. Alexander now had awakened 623,000 magic cells.
When Alexander was going to let himself lose hope of quick advancement, one of the mad scientists of his kingdom came up with a truly mad idea and a brilliant idea. The scientist theorised that if the runic circle can change any energy to magical energy then, it can be calibrated to change matter into magical energy. This idea was brilliant but the mad idea was to change nuclear energy to magical energy. The scientist was mad because he wanted to conduct live tests in order to test his theory. That man wanted to draw a gigantic version of the runic circle on ground, then somehow activate it and at last drop a nuclear bomb in middle of it.
Alexander did not know whether to laugh or cry, the force of explosion would be enough to destroy the runic circle and this man instead of starting with small bombs directly wanted to use nuclear bombs in order to test his theory which was not proven yet. Alexander thought, " These mad people working and living in the same place as the rest of the populace would endanger them so let's shift them to some remote part of the kingdom, before some experiment goes wrong." Alexander raised a separate continent which was covered in mountains and rough terrain and moved the labs to that place. Alexander also appointed some people to monitor them as mad scientists are often willing to cross lines which should not be crossed without supervision. The mad scientists were quite happy with the arrangement as according to them, the society didn't led them experiment in peace.
The research started and the most glaring problem arouse, the energy dissipated before it could be converted into magical energy. The runes cannot be used on insulated metals as magic is also a form of energy. Alexander ordered the entire R&D Department to focus on this. The end result was a variant of Atlantean steel which was highly conductive metal. A special room was made, using this metal and after a series of tedious experiments, the end result was achieved. The energy released from the explosion was absorbed in the walls of the room made of the special metal, with the help of absorption runes and then transferred to another room.The other room was an isolation chamber whose walls were lined with conversion runes. When the energy reached the threshold of containment, the runes were activated and the energy was converted into magical energy. The scientists calculated that the loss of energy during explosion and transmission was 15 to 20 percent and it took 100 Joules of energy to form 1 MP.
Alexander didn't want only himself to take advantage of this so he had his men construct 1,000 similar chambers for the future magus of his kingdom to help them in advancement. Alexander had his men test and train the pain bearing capability of his men by ample use of crucio spell. The crucio spell targeted the nerves so the healers had designed a special potion regim and ritual circles to heal the damage. A magi can be exposed to this spell only twice a month to get optimal results from the training. This arrangement was started only a month ago so Alexander hoped that at the end of the second month, he would get the candidates who could advance to magus realm.
Alexander knew that this method was cruel but it was very effective in training the men. The men themselves had no problem in undergoing the crucio training as termed by them. Alexander ordered the psychiatrists to have sessions with his men in order to check their mental health. The men were completely mentally fit, it was their loyalty to him that drove them to achieve this things. It took only one week for the scientists to achieve all this as magically enhances computers and tech made the working much easier. Alexander now had awakened another 200,000 magic cells. The number was less as he was busy in making sure that his men in their zeal, don't blow themselves up.
Alexander ordered through testing of the room before practical usage and alternative methods of obtaining necessary energy as he cannot waste all the arms and ammunition of his kingdom. Someone suggested the use of the duplication charm but it did not work so they moved to conjuration. The conjuration required knowing every single piece of the bomb but thankfully, Alexander had enough explosion fanatics to achieve this. The test was carried out and was proven to be successful so bombs were now conjured. As the magi of his kingdom were very powerful, they only required a team of 20 magi to transfer magic to the conjurer in order to make the bomb. The cost of the magic was quite huge but the return was bigger. One normal bomb produced 10,000 MP and a magically enhanced one produced 100,000 MP. Alexander had forbidden the use of the enhanced bombs as they were the strategic weapons of the kingdom.
Alexander then ordered the use of the more powerful bombs except the nuclear bombs to calculate the amount of magical energy produced. The maximum was 1 million MP as the metal was not able to handle more than that. The chamber itself could only hold up to 10 million MP, so research was being done to increase the capacity of metal and chamber. As the research was going on, a message came from the East that the specialized teams would be arriving in one month. The barrier surrounding the magical India could be opened only once a month. The magus that arrived to check up on the elves was stationed outside the barrier to catch any intruders. There were at least 10 magus who stand guard outside the barrier. This suited Alexander as he would have magus under his command by the end of the next month.
Alexander was eagerly waiting for the final tests to be completed so that he could use it. On a side note, his subjects enjoyed the suffering of the old bastard also known as Dumbledore when he was fighting Grindlewald so now, Dumbledore was the exit ticket of all the criminals who wanted to escape their punishment. The participants would beat up Dumbledore and the one who performed best would be released. All of this depended on audience's votes. Dumbledore was also given equal opportunity and by beating his opponents, he would be allotted points by which, he could buy whatever he wants within certain limits. The elves had also found Riddle and he would joining Dumbledore after all his little trinkets are destroyed. Alexander was planning to conduct a duel between the two. It was these little things which made Alexander very happy.
