Chapter 17: New Era

Kyou En's Pov:

"Urgent Report!" A messenger said while riding a fast horse.

"They got ambushed?" I said while hearing sounds of fighting while wondering if my speculation is correct.

"Y-Yes! Ga Rin sama was ambushed by another 5 thousand troops and the original 5 thousand that were probably bait have now started to take formations while surrounding Ga Rin sama and the unit so they don't escape." The messenger said worried.

"..." Another 5 thousand.... That's the size of an army... Why would the Wei waste that many resources on a place like this....not to mention... Their commander is smart... To build a fortress and bait us like this ... Even if we knew it was a bait... We'd still be forced to go...

"Should I order the unit to rescue Lord Ga Rin?" Kei Ou who is my advisor said.

"...Where is Yi?" I asked the messenger wondering where he is right now.

"Sir, Kyou Yi sama followed Lord Ga Rin after doing some scouting... He's probably safe for now as he was in the back... But if Ga Rin sana and his unit is eliminated... then...." The messenger said while looking a bit afraid.

I then click my tonge while closing my eyes.

"Kei Ou..." I said.

"Yes Sir!" Kei Ou said enthusiastically.

"Have the Mounted Archers attack in two groups of five hundred... One group will charge at them while shooting arrows before retreating when they get too close.... The other group will follow behind and do the same while giving the former group time to recover.... They will then both repeat and annoy the enemy like this." I said as I opened my eyes.

"Yes Sir, what about you?" Kei Ou nodded and asked.

"Heh... Isn't it obvious? An Eye for an Eye... A tooth for a tooth... And a injury for an injury... I will show that Wei General what it means to mess with my unit." I said as I ordered my personal unit while not realising how cheesy that line was.

Ga Rin's Pov:

"To think that I couldn't predict a trap like this... Have I gotten rusty... Tch." I muttered while looking at Wei General who was easily slaughtering our soldiers with his mace....

"Hahaha what's wrong Qin bastards.... Is that all you've got? Hahaha it seems like you're going to die here huh Ga Rin... Heh" The Wei General said while smirking.

That flag... 

"So you're Gan Ou... I've heard a lot about you..." I said while riding my horse with my elite squad to confront him.

"Heh... I'm flattered that someone as renowned as you has heard about me... I'm also happy that I get to have the chance to personally kill you.... The former right hand of Ko Shou of Qin's Six Greats." Gan Ou said with a huge grin.

"Hmph... I'm afraid my head won't be easy to take... You're ambush was good... However coming directly forward to me was a bit mistake as you'll be the one to die!" I said as I swung my glaive aiming to kill Gan Ou.

"Heh" Gan Ou just smirked and brought his Mace forward to meet my Glaive.

Knowing that Gan Ou is known for his Martial Prowess... I decided to go all out and try to kill him in one stroke... However due to my shock... He perfectly blocked it... And then proceeded to attack my head however I reacted in time to parry him.

"Ho?... I expected to take you down in that strike... You're a lot more formidable than I thought... Ga Rin... I'm going to enjoy playing with you a lot." Gan Ou said as he was about to attack again but suddenly stopped as he heard some horse's riding up here.

"Everyone...Watch out for an enemy attack" Gan Ou said as he realised that it was Qin soldiers instead of Wei people riding here.

'This may be my only chance....' Ga Rin internally thought.

"All Troops Retreat!" I ordered while riding away from Gan Ou... He tried to chase me but stopped just as I thought he would as he saw Mounted Archers coming here while shooting at his defenceless soldiers.

"Hmph it's just some mere archers... Quickly eliminate them... Use the terrain to our Advantage!" Gan Ou shouted but was annoyed when the archer's quickly retreated so he rode with his cavalry unit to eliminate them quickly... However he was then ambushed by other mounted archers....

'... These bastard's.... They're just wasting our time while slowly reducing our troops...' 

"Hi Ken.. take 5 thousand and chase Ga Rin.. don't let him get away... Sa Shin you guard this place with 2 thousand while the rest of you follow me!" Gan Ou internally thought before giving out his orders.

"Sir!!" Gan Ou's soldiers nodded before following his orders.

"Ga Rin sama... The enemy seems to be splitting their forces while the majority of them are still chasing us.." one of my soldiers said to me.

"What are our casualties" I said wanting to know if we could counter.

"... We seem to have lost a bit more than a thousand in that quick melee." The soldier replied.

"What do you think Yi?" I asked Yi who just rode next to me instead of staying in the back.

"... There seems to be around 5 thousand enemies chasing us.... With you and your elite units strength... We might be able to change the scales and beat them... However our formation is currently broken and if the enemy unit that is guarding the fortress decides to help them... Then it'd be over for us... Let's retreat a bit further and quickly take our formations before attacking them in a place where the unit that's guarding the fortress won't be able to help them." Yi said while looking at the enemies behind him.

Kyou En's Pov:

"Sir! They're in sight.... It seems the enemy is chasing our Mounted Unit!" one of my personal soldiers said.

... That flag.... That's Gan Ou of Wei...

"Let's do this bastard's!!! Kill the Wei!" I shouted while charging ahead with 6 swords and 8 spears being right beside me getting ready to kill anyone that approaches me.

Hmm... The enemy has already stopped and begun changing formations... As expected of Gan Ou... considering my 500 against his around 3 thousand soldiers... I will need to utilize my mounted archers properly to even it out...

"Have the Mounted Archers keep circling around the enemy... If the Wei decides to split their forces to concentrate on us and the archers at the same time then have the archers all split into small groups of 100 archers each and annoy the Wei in different directions." I gave my orders to one of my messengers to relay it to the mounted archers.

"Everyone else... We shall swiftly charge and take the Wei General's head...be careful.. he's strong..." I said as I continued charging at the Wei who were now extremely close to me.

"6 swords and 8 spears... Get ready to use the heavenly execution formation..." I ordered my strongest 14 soldiers who all seem to have different luxury armors and weapons from the rest of the unit... 

"Yes Sir!" They all shouted while smirking crazily.

'Alright here we go...' I thought as I neared the Wei Soldiers.

"Oraaa!!!!" I swung my glaive and blasted through the defensive formation that the Wei seem to have taken.....but just as I got inside the Wei formation.... A small unit to Wei's left which is in my right side... Split and charged at us.... While a few small units in the back seem to have also split to take care of the archers...

Gan Ou... He's a more capable man than I gave him credit for... He split his units in a way that would be hard for the archers to do anything... At the same time... If the archer's get too close then he can just trap them one by one with his multiple units and eliminate them slowly. I have to end this fast.

"50 men on me! The rest continue the attack and hold off the soldiers here!" I ordered my personal unit to continue their attack while changing directions to the unit on my right that seems to have around 200 soldiers being led by Gan Ou...

"Hahahaha" I heard Gan Ou laughing loudly as he saw me coming to face him.

"So you're Kyou En... It was nice to meet you... Now die!" Gan Ou said while riding his horse... He then got his massive mace and tried to kill me however I also brought my glaive to counter him and try to slice off his neck.

However... Just as my glaive met his mace... I felt an incredibly powerful force pushing me away... However I gritted my teeth and continued forcing my glaive... However I still stood no chance as he managed to push me and my horse back.

"My Lord!" My soldiers were shocked that I was knocked back.

"To think that someone as strong as Kyou En sama was pushed back... Impossible.." My personal unit started to get worried..

"Hahaha You were able to stop my blow as well Kyou En... let me reintroduce myself as a token of respect before I kill you.." Gan Ou said.

"Tsk... Introducing yourself? I'm also curious as to who you are....after all it wasn't long since a rumor started that there was a big guy who came out of nowhere in Wei and started climbing the ranks with an unbelievable speed... Gan Ou.... Someone that became a general incredibly fast and later proved to everyone that he was the Strongest Warrior in Wei that's currently alive...." I said to Gan Ou while remembering the rumors about him.

"Hahaha... You've heard quite a bit about me... Indeed... I am that Gan Ou.... However Im not some random person that came out of nowhere...." Gan Ou said while pondering a bit.

"What do you mean?" I replied curious.

".... My father is Gai Mou who was said to be the strongest Wei Warrior preceding me before he died... However my mother was of a lowly origin that Gai Mou just used for a day before abandoning us... My Goal was to become stronger than even him and take revenge... However he somehow suddenly died without giving me the chance to take revenge.... Therefore I can only vent my rage in wars and prove to everyone that I am mightier.... With Ouki's death... The Qin 6 Greats and Zhao's three heaven's and Gaku Ki are all gone... This is a new Era... I will prove to everyone how wrong it was to abandon us... I changed my name in order to achieve this... I am Gan Ou... The man who wil take your life.

"... How brave of you to say stuff like this to me." I replied while thinking about his history.

"Hahaha.... That's because you also seem to have an unwavering determination that reminds me of myself... And because you will die here.... Everyone attack!" Gan Ou said before grinning and charging at me...

"Slaughter them!.... 6 swords and 8 spears... Heavenly execution formation now!...." I shouted.
