Chapter 8

Half an hour from the goblin village laid a waterfall and spring hidden by mountains to its sides and the forest in front of it. It was small and not very noteworthy but behind the waterfall laid a massive cave. It was the length of 2 football fields and the height of 1 African Bush Elephant. Kane was lucky that the legionnaires he sent as scouts found such a perfect place to. set up camp.

"It may not be the Ritz-Carlton but it has its benefits like being hidden from the dangers of the forest. Even if it was found it has a small entrance and could easily be defended" Kane was happy with this location. "BOT please buy 2 Roman Tents," Kane remembered that the Romans used to house their legionnaires in goatskin tents that could house 10 people. He bought one for his current troops and one for storage for if they go hunting or find anything interesting in the forest while he is away.

Kane took the tents out of his inventory and signaled for Annius to come over "Can you set these tents up. Hopefully, they make the cave homier. One is used for you guys to sleep in and the other is for storage or anything else you might need." Annius took the tents from Kane "Thanks Lord Kane I shall set them up right away" Kane was happy with Annius's efficiency. "Good also I have some large ration packs that I got a while back. Take all 5" Kane gave half of the ration packs he received after summoning Annius.

Kane was happy with the beginning of this camp. They were the first part of his future empire. He also found it fun managing everything and couldn't wait for more challenges to overcome. "I will be heading back to the bandit camp now Annius I will come to check on you in a few days" Annius saluted and Kane walked out of the cave and through the waterfall. Looking back at the place he couldn't help but say "This really is the perfect place for a hidden base." After looking at the waterfall for a bit he started his walk back to the bandit camp.

After his walk through the forest, he finally saw the camp's wooden gate and log walls. "Ah, it feels good to be home" Kane chuckled at having a bandit camp as his new home. It was strange but not bad. Plus, he realized that if he was going to be a conqueror, he would have to get used to stealing. He should really take some tips from the bandits in that matter. He always felt it was good to learn the craft directly from the masters and bandits were definitely the master of stealing. Plus he liked the guys and had a plan to one day make them follow him. "I never thought my first army would be a bunch of bandits." He smiled at the thought.

"Who goes there?!" a small figure asked from on the guard towers next to the gate. This was Sandford the Sly a halfling that was the only nonhuman member of this bandit group. Osborn and George were friends with him and had introduced him after he was first accepted into the bandit's fold. "It's me Kane" Kane shouted at the halfling. It was no wonder that Sanford could not recognize Kane as he now had a mask and bear cloak. "I got some new clothes Sanford" Kane was smiling under his mask and the surprised look Sanford had plastered on his face.

Then the gates opened and Kane walked inside. "Kane you look like you have been rather successful," said Sanford who had climbed down the tower. His eyes lingered on Kane before looking at the sack behind Kane. "New armor I found but before you get too excited it's only enough to fit 10 people and you are too tiny to wear it my friend" Kane teased the halfling. " "You better take that back we halflings have our uses!" Sanford said angrily. "Ok yeah, they do, and luckily you thanks to being so small you can make a good thief" Kane decided to be a bit nice Sanford. "As long as you understand," said Sanford grumpily. Then he looked inside the bag to see the loot had scored. "This is nice stuff where did you get it?" Kane quickly thought of an excuse "I got it from the nearby goblin village" "WHAT!?" Sanford could not believe his ears.

Kane was currently standing in front of Dallin while being surrounded by other bandits including George, Osborn, and Sanford. He was telling the lie he came up with on how he got the armor. After finishing, Dallined looked incredibly happy. He suddenly gave a hearty laugh and said "You have really done us proud Kane! It was right to have you join us. Who knew you would be so strong to deal with all those goblins even if a lot had died to that beast." Kane had told Dallin that a beast had weakened them before he had come in and defeated the surviving goblins and stole the armor. "I also see the new mask and cloak. It looks good. on you makes you even more mysterious than before!" laughed Dallin. "I also see you didn't change your own armor and gave all of it to the rest of us. That is something I respect and for all your hard work today I will have a cabin made for you." Kane was happy with this reward because now he could use the system without any worries about surrounding bandits.

"Thank you," Kane said. "No thank you this will help boost our strength" Dallin smiled "We had a house being built recently and it will be finished soon so feel free to head over there when you're ready. Everyone else let's drink and feast tonight!" The bandits cheered and dispersed to proper the celebrations. George and Sanford smiled at Kane while Osborn patted Kane on the back before dispersing. Kane smiled and headed to the cabin that would be his new home. When he arrived he was happy to see how spacious it was. It was much more comfortable than the group lodging he spent his first night in. He found a small bed in it but nothing else. "It's been a good day," Kane said before checking his latest system announcement.
