Kane was extremely satisfied with how the negotiations went down. He sent two of Jag's men to ride to his castle and hand a letter to Alfred.
The letter contained Kane's plans and ordered him to prepare the army. He would have 200 Crusaders ride to Crazus Town with 50 Orcs. He did not send for the Romans as they had no cavalry and would take too long to arrive. The Orcs were to stay hidden in the forest and would not be shown to the townspeople. They were just to help deal with the bandit clan.
He had plenty of time until they arrived so he figured he would go visit Lo. It would be very beneficial to improve his relationship with the healer.
Lo lived in a hut near the wall of the town. It was isolated from other buildings as the mage did not like distractions while he worked.
When Kane arrived he knocked on the door. He could hear glass shatter and an old voice curse. Then the door opened and an annoyed Lo could be seen.
"What do you want?" he asked frustrated.
"Well, I did say we would talk later, didn't I? Are you alright? Something seemed to break," said Kane.
"I was working. It's fine. Yes, we did. I am still curious about your guards. Also, I would like to know more about your kingdom and its new king."
"Of course it will be my pleasure."
"Well come in then. Mind my stuff. It may be messy but it all has a reason to be there."
Kane entered the hut and sat at the table. Looks like the old mage who seemed to not like to converse would be very eager if it gave him knowledge.
"So Kane why were Kakari with you? I was sure their tribes we killed off" said Lo.
"Well, I sadly do not have the answers for you right now. They are part of the king's army and follow him. I am lucky to have been able to use them as my guards. I sadly cannot say how they came to be or from where."
"That's fine. This king really is an interesting fellow. He is also a mage which is something you do not see very often. I would love to meet him."
"I am sure he would want to meet you as well. In fact, you may be able to soon."
Lo perked up at this. "What do you mean by this?"
"The Mayor has asked for the Iron Rose Kingdom to send help to deal with the bandit clan. Troops should arrive in a few days."
"Wow really? It looks like the Mayor has finally let outsiders help him and his people. I understand why they never did before but things started to get more dangerous. Not all free towns can survive and need another force to help them." said Lo.
"I agree. How did you end up in this town? I am sure a healing mage could have gone far in any of the kingdoms."
"I used to be part of one. It was terrible and I did not enjoy it. Plus I was unable to help the people and forced to help only the royalty and the wealthy. When the kingdom fell I decided to leave. I came here to help people and even though I may not be the best mage I am still a mage and I can do a lot more help than if they had no healer."
"That is absolutely correct. Would you like to be able to help more people?"
Lo looked skeptically at Kane.
"What do you mean by this?"
"The king has people who have an affinity with magic. They have no real way to learn magic as the King has a different kind of magic. What if you taught them your style?"
Lo looked visually shocked at this.
"He really has people that could become mages? That's very rare. I know the most common kind and only a few spells but if I truly am able to train more healers then that would still be amazing."
"The kingdom's forces will be here soon. You can discuss it later."
"If what you say is true then I should talk to the Mayor about joining this kingdom of yours. A group of healing mages can really elevate a king even if they aren't the most powerful just the spells I know taught to them would help citizens and soldiers alike."
"I totally agree. We can discuss it with the Mayor later. When the troops arrive we can discuss it with the King as well."
"Thank you, Kane. This news really rejuvenates an old man. It was a blessing that you came here."
Lo walked Kane to the door and they both said their goodbyes before Kane went to nap.
Later they would meet with the Mayor about what he and Lo talked about.
