The field engineers corps of the expeditionary army, which originally destroyed the roads, has now returned to recuperate and no longer digs potholes all the way.

It is clear that the enemy is now unafraid of their approaching, and possibly even waiting for them to come. Without an alliance's support, the small amount of troops dispatched by the Bearman Imperial Court can't withstand the Human Alliance attack.
