Chapter 19: Kill [1]
'Hmm, the missions, no matter what, I have to complete them one by one and as soon as possible.'
'That world god fker, if I ever get as strong as him, I will ruin his entire life.', Vaughn clenched his fist as he thought this.
Genie moved his right hand slowly and placed it on Vaughn's trembling right fist.
"It's alright Vaughn, everything will be fine.", she said.
[Genie: I'm scared. I don't want to lose him.]
[Genie: But I can't show fear. He is scared too, so I must stay calm and give him strength.]
Upon reading Genie's thoughts, Vaughn felt a little satisfied.
In a world where betrayal is quite common, seeing someone like Genie and Moon beside him, Vaughn couldn't help but feel blessed.
He then gently moved his right hand and caressed Genie.
"Trust me. Everything will be fine. We'll get out of here and soon marry."
At the mention of marriage, Genie's face turned red. Confused, she tried to meet Vaughn's gaze, but her eyes would never quite meet his. She was embarrassed. As for Moon, her mouth hung wide open in surprise upon hearing Vaughn's words.
[Moon: She is stealing him away from me!]
Vaughn looked at that and chuckled.
"Haha, do you want to marry me or what?", he asked jokingly.
Moon wasn't blood related. Rather, she was never with him in the start! Only after becoming a slave did they meet.
Hence, the original talk about incest with the system was turned to dust normally. However, they still held the bond.
"Y-yes.", Moon, flustered, nodded her head.
But at the same time, Genie replied with a yes as well.
As she heard Moon's voice, she raised her head, and stared right at her. Looking back at Vaughn, who had his gazes fixated at Moon, Genie suddenly had an inner thought.
'Yeah, they will make a better pair.', she thought to herself, which Vaughn didn't notice nor read.
Her eyes were filled with guilt.
'I'm dirty…', she said to herself as she clenched her fist and gritted her teeth, almost, not noticeable to either of them.
"For real? Moon?"
"You like me?", Vaughn asked, trying to make Moon confess but it backfired.
"Of- Of course not!"
"I was just kidding brother!", she smiled as she saw Genie lost in thought.
"Haha.", Vaughn merely laughed thinking she was joking - not even bothering to take a look at what she was actually thinking.
'It's best… to not cross the line.', Moon said to herself.
Vaughn, after having the chillest convo, decides to do the unthinkable - check the shop!
'System, could you show me the shop?'
[Uff, finally! I have been waiting for you to say this.]
Vaughn smirked upon hearing this.
[Shop]
[Items…]
There was a list of tons of items of variety of types and Vaughn, he had plans to buy some of them, just in case.
[Weapons:]
[1. Long Sword: Grade D] [ Worth: 5 SC]
[2. Dagger: Grade D] [Worth: 5 SC]
[3…]
Vaughn didn't purchase anything from the shop. Instead, he spent an entire hour browsing through all the available items.
As time passed, the same guard who had previously left after Garry whispered something to him, returned and called out to Vaughn.
"Slave Vaughn, Master Garry summons you."
"Garry?" Vaughn stood up upon hearing his name, walking out of the gate that the guard opened for him.
Both Moon and Genie wanted to accompany Vaughn, but the guard instructed that only Vaughn was called upon and that the others had to stay behind.
Reassuring his friends, Vaughn simply stood up and walked away.
After a few steps, they arrived at Garry's office. Upon entering, Vaughn noticed Garry smirking and reading something from a piece of paper while twirling a ring on his index finger.
Just as Vaughn was about to speak, the guard pulled him back by his right hand, halting him.
"Master, I've brought him," the guard said.
Garry, after acknowledging their presence, said, "Come here, boy."
Vaughn quickly pulled his hand away from the guard's grip with a jolt, giving him a stern look before continuing to walk towards Garry until he stood in front of him.
"So, what is it?" Vaughn asked eagerly. "Did you finally get me some equipment?"
Garry's mouth remained open in surprise at Vaughn's question. "Do you ever think about anything other than that?" Garry retorted after a momentary pause.
Vaughn fell silent for a moment, then scratched his head. "So, what did you call me for?" he asked, changing the subject.
Garry sighed and handed over a dagger to Vaughn abruptly. "Here," he said.
"An equipment!" Vaughn exclaimed with a smile as he saw the dagger.
"A weapon," Garry corrected.
"Same thing," Vaughn replied, inspecting the new dagger with a black hilt and a red blade.
"Now, come with me," Garry instructed, and Vaughn followed closely behind as they walked. After a minute or two, they arrived at a place down a flight of stairs. It resembled a prison, similar to where Vaughn and the other slaves used to stay, but this one was slightly different – it held a knight.
As they reached the cell, a loud roar echoed from within. "LET ME OUT, YOU BASTARD!" the sound reverberated, causing Vaughn to flinch a bit.
"The knight?" Vaughn asked, taken aback.
Garry nodded, stating firmly, "You've got to kill him, boy."
Vaughn's eyes widened in shock upon hearing Garry's words. "Kill?" he repeated, his voice momentarily turning deep with disbelief.
"Yes," Garry affirmed.
"B-but why must I do it?" Vaughn asked, seeking an explanation.
Garry chuckled, replying, "Ha… I just want to check if you are still the same."
"After all, the killing intent and bloodlust... You no longer emit them," Garry continued, observing Vaughn closely.
"The gaze that could send chills down anyone's spine, I don't see it anymore," Garry added.
"If you can't kill this one guy, how can I expect you to kill anyone at all?" Garry posed the question.
"But I killed the Princ-"
"I killed her!" Garry interrupted, raising his voice, making it clear that Lectia's death was due to his command, not Vaughn's actions.
Vaughn fell silent, not having anything to say in response to Garry's correction.
