Chapter 12: Seeing Thoughts
"Brother, you are awake.", Moon said, moving closer to Vaughn and touching him, making sure he is alright.
"Ya, I…"
But as Vaughn was going to reply to her, he noticed something. Something quite weird.
There was a screen right above Moon's head which had some texts on it.
[Moon: Thank god brother is fine. If anything had happened to him, I swear, I would kill that hypocritical fatty!]
'Huh?'
Apparently, he could read Moon's thoughts as per the system's feature.
But it took him a second or two to realize that they were her thoughts indeed because so far, the little girl had said nothing more than 'Brother'. She didn't speak any other context at all, so he was a bit puzzled initially.
However, when he looked at Genie, he was confident that what he saw earlier were indeed Moon's thoughts.
[Genie: Kiss… kiss… kiss… We kissed!]
'Now this is something useful.'
'But wasn't this supposed to be a feature after having tagged someone?', Vaughn questioned the system.
[It is similar. You can automatically look at everyone's thoughts as long as they are near you. A screen would always appear above their heads.]
[But what if they are far from you? You can't possibly see their screens and read.]
[That is the role of tag. If you tag anyone, you can open a window anytime and check what they are thinking.]
No more explanation needed, Vaughn understood the argument that the system posed.
"Yes, I am fine.", Vaughn finally answered, tapping Moon's head, patting her gently.
She smiled a little as he did that.
Then she looked at Genie and said, "Sister, you should have woken me up when brother was awake!"
"Ah, I…", Genie was playing with her hair, unable to answer even now as she remained flustered, unable to control her emotion.
[Moon: Ya, ya. Why will you even wake me? You are a vixen. You want my brother for yourself!]
[Moon: But after we get out of here, I will ask my father to give him tons of gifts. I am sure he will choose me and not some beggar like you.]
And these were Moon's thoughts which upon reading, Vaughn realized something.
'Could it be that she didn't actually lose her memory?'
'Yes… she is merely acting!'
All the memories from the past flashed in front of his eyes of how she acted cute.
'I see… so this is how it plays.', Vaughn merely chuckled.
"It's fine, don't blame Genie."
"She was just too happy to see me awake.", Vaughn defended her.
"Oh… okay brother.", Moon let it aside, at least on the surface, but deep within, she had different thoughts.
[Moon: I can't believe my brother is defending her. Charm! She must has used some sort of Charm!]
Vaughn didn't think much about it.
He then raised his right hand a little, using the index finger to motion towards himself, as if asking both Genie and Moon to come closer.
"Yes…?"
"Shhh."
"Listen to me.", Vaughn whispered, barely audible.
"I want to tell you a truth."
Both Moon and Genie exchanged glances with each other before proceeded to ask, "What truth?"
"I…"
"Ahem, I had an awakening.", he said.
"Awakening!?", both of them raised their voices a bit, surprising Vaughn who had asked them to keep their voices lowered!
"Shh!", he placed his index finger on his lips, begging them to remain mum.
Genie did as she was asked, but for Moon, she still spoke, of course, in a low voice this time.
"Awakening brother…?", she asked, her eyes sparkling.
[Moon: I knew it! Yes! Of course my brother is amazing.]
[Moon: Awakening! Wow, I wonder what Main Job he would have got. Will he tell me? He will. Right?]
[Moon: Yes.]
[Genie: That's great!]
[Genie: If he got an amazing Job, then he can get out of this damned place!]
Both of them had positive reactions.
But wait, why did Vaughn decide to tell about this in the first place?
Simple.
It was because of a new mission.
[Mission 2: Relay your awakening message to Moon and Genie.]
[Reward: 1 SC]
Not much, but it was still 10 gold coins. So he relayed it to them.
[Congratulation, you have completed your 2nd mission.]
[You have been awarded 1 SC.]
[Balance: 1000 SC]
'So far, the missions have been quite easy.'
'I'm pretty sure they will get hell lot of tougher.', Vaughn thought to himself.
"Um, brother, can you tell me more about your awakening.", Moon asked, her eyes continuously sparkling with excitement.
Genie too pressed, "Yes Vaughn. What Job did you get?"
"Fu fu fu.", Vaughn merely laughed, smirking at the same time.
"Why don't you guess?", he asked rather than replying.
"Uh…", Moon didn't even put a minimal effort in guessing as she had to pretend to not know what a job was.
But Genie, she did name a few jobs, quite the good ones: Adventurer; Warrior; Knight; Hero.
"Wait wait, Hero? No that is too much, haha.", Vaughn replied when he heard her choices getting more and more ridiculous.
"Then?"
"Divine Priest, that's my job."
He revealed.
And the moment he did, both of their jaws almost dropped.
A priest is one of the highest jobs one could receive. Getting a title such as Divine Priest, it was definitely higher than a Priest title!
Both of them gasped upon hearing that, their eyes widened.
"For real!?", Genie questioned.
"Yes."
She couldn't contain her excitement and as for Moon, although she had gasped earlier, she pretended as if she didn't know what it was.
[Moon: Brother! Yes!]
"Haha, I…", Vaughn had more to say.
He was about to tell more about his job when he heard someone's footsteps.
"Get up! Everyone, get up!" Garry's voice boomed as he positioned himself in front of the main gate, the pathway leading to the dark place that housed five cells, including the one where Vaughn was confined.
Following him, a lot of guards rushed, opening the locks.
"Get up! Get up!"
"Her highness has come for a visit!"
"Get up!"
The guards too raised their voices, demanding all the slaves to rise from their sleeps and form a line.
