Cain's made it clear what his directive is as Alpha of the clan, which is to follow the masquerade and adhere to the treaties in place, at least until told otherwise.
Jake steps out of the car and barely misses a puddle of water. He makes his way around the vehicle, then closes the gap between him and Jenny.
He walks the rest of the way to the house in silence. His eyes stray from the sidewalk in front of him and linger on the sway of her hips. She pulls a band off her wrist, gathers her hair up in her hands, and then she puts it up in a ponytail.
Her hair swings back and forth like a pendulum, sweeping across the lower section of her back. She's always had long hair, ever since he's known her. But right now, her hair is longer than he's ever seen it.
