Keeper Of The Library

Isaac loved to read spending all of his free time reading and learning. His dream was to be able to work in a library but was unable to afford the years of college to achieve that dream. He worked at a grocery store making minimum wage and barely scraped by. All of that changed when he received a package in the mail. Image is not mine if it is yours and you would like me to remove it please do let me know. Also this is only my 2nd story so please be patient with me since I'm not the best writer.

William decided to make them take a break. As he went off to get them some food and water Isaac and Val decided to chat.

"It is nice of William to treat us so well, he has been really caring towards us." Isaac said turning towards Val.

"Yeah but why would he act this way towards two complete strangers?"

"Maybe he is just nice? Or maybe it is his job or something given by the library."

"Yeah but he treats us like he has known us for years and is like a close friend. I feel like he is hiding something from us." Val said thinking out loud.

"Maybe. But for now lets listen to him until we have proof of any ulterior motives. After all he is the only one who is here to teach us and help us learn things."

"Yeah I know Isaac. I just feel skeptical of everything going on. It just seems too convenient." Val said with a sigh.

"It is okay love." Isaac said grabbing Val's hand." I understand and I believe you have a reason to worry."

A couple minutes later William came back with 2 glasses of water and a couple of sandwiches for them.

"Awe sweet turkey and cheese my favorite! Thanks William!" Isaac said with a grin.

"Of course, no problem." William said back with a smile. "Once you are done eating I will reactivate the magic circle so you can continue trying to gather energy."

"Alright, thanks." Val replied.

As they ate the door began glowing. Val stood up to take care of it but William just told him to keep eating and that he could get it. Sitting back down Val continued eating with Isaac as the door opened.

The library doors swung open as a plain looking man walked in. He looked to be in his early 20s and he was wearing a black shirt and jeans. He had black hair and gray eyes and seemed to be looking around in confusion while walking towards the main desk.

"Welcome to the library young traveler." William spoke.

"Hello there, is this a dream?" The man spoke seemingly confused.

"No this is very real. You have been given the opportunity to join the library." William replied with a smile.

"Oh okay how do I sign up?" the man said while looking at his wrist watch.

"We have some paperwork for you to fill out. Also please stop trying to scan me for information. It is very rude."

The man looked stunned and stopped looking at his watch. He quickly apologized and filled out the paperwork as fast as possible before getting his card and walking away.

"Well that was a bit weird." Val whispered to Isaac.

"I know, I wonder what he was trying to do."

They quickly finished their meal as William reactivated the magic circles underneath them as they began their meditation again.

Isaac sat there meditating. He had tried to do this many times when he was back on earth but there wasn't enough mana or energy for him to gather. However he grew used to the feeling so he had a good starting point.

Sensing his surroundings he felt like there were small strands of energy floating around him. He focused on one and slowly pulled it towards the tip of his first finger. As it got closer and closer it became harder to keep drawing it in as if he was pulling it through mud. Finally after 20 minutes he managed to pull it in close enough to enter his hand. As he tried to draw it in he lost focus and it slipped out of his grasp. Sighing he began again.

Val on the other hand was having issues picturing it properly. He couldn't keep a clear enough mental image to focus on. He asked Isaac what he felt and sensed. Isaac explained to him that he saw small threads spread around in the air floating there. Going with that image he finally got a clear enough idea to draw the origin energy in better.

Both of them sat there for another few hours trying and failing over and over. Finally they managed to draw in the smallest strand into the tip of their finger. As it entered they felt the feeling of lightning entering their finger and as they tried to pull it through their energy veins it wouldn't move further than the tip of their finger. They then pushed the energy out as they noticed the energy seemed weaker and like it was dirty.

"Congratulations you two!" William clapped for the two of them. "You have just cleared the smallest section of your energy veins so it should be a little easier for the two of you to draw in energy. Keep clearing out your energy veins. I know it is a slow process but you can do it!"

Nodding they both began meditating again. They kept trying and failing to draw in the energy but the second strand they pulled in was much quicker than the first one. They had less than 1% of their energy veins cleaned but they have made progress and were happy about it. Unfortunately they had to stop for the day. They were both so exhausted mentally and had also been sweating from the strain. Both guests there had left around an hour ago so they closed up the library and went to take a shower to clean up and unwind.
