Chapter 27: Tug of War

The week before the second trial, Ms. Julie cautioned me that it would be a good idea to sit out of school and stay tucked away. There was no telling what anyone might do to get an advantage. Trent agreed and also said we had enough training until then.

“It’s all so messy,” Tessa said over the phone. “It’s the school’s fault. A scholarship should be a scholarship, not a blood sport.”

“When you’re president of the school, then you can change things.”

“Hmph… Why wait? I don’t like this one bit. I can’t stand the thought of you getting hurt or having to leave school. What will your patron do if you get kicked out?”

I hadn’t really thought of that. He was my uncle and extremely rich. If Alpha Academy didn’t work out, what was the back up plan?

"What are you going to do today?” My uncle asked as I picked at my breakfast a few days before the tug of war trial.
