Kara Cahill (The White Wolf)

She had to keep her true identity hidden and trust only a few people. But some secrets are always meant to be revealed, some fates are not meant to be changed. Can Kara Cahill accept her fate and let the prophecy run its course? ■■■ Out of the woods, wolves emerged, snarling and growling. Kara sighed. "Without knowing who I am, she made this move. I wonder how it would be if she knew who I truly was." She whispered to Klaus and stepped out. The snarling wolves' sound covered whatever she was saying so she couldn't be heard.. "You will not treat me like a fragile glass." He nodded but grabbed her hand first and said, "I've seen what you can do. Changing into a wolf partly. You will teach me when this is over." Nodding she replied. "Okay. But you'll tell me about anybody who is a somebody in the pack and out." "Deal, now let's kick some wolf butts." He grinned and they were back-to-back. The first wolf attacked and Kara slammed her arm into its jaw. It bite her and drew blood. "No more nice new girl." Her eyes flashed white for a second and she attacked. Her speed could not be matched and the onlookers couldnt look away. She slammed jaws and her nails left marks on the faces of some of the wolves. She was a sight on the field. Careful not to kill anyone, Kara pushed the last person the the ground and stood snarling. Klaus howled and patted her on the back. "Mad skills you got." His smile was wide as his eyes twinkled. Mara clapped dramatically and narrowed her yes at Kara. She sneered. "I agree, you can move... against amateurs."

Betrayal

"Or are you Regi's?" Mara stated, more than asked, with a smirk.

Kara sighed. "And you jumped to this conclusion how?" She felt slight relief.

Mara looked down at her fingers and picked at her nails. "How else do you explain a wolf with powers?"

They all froze. She laughed.

"Oh come on princess, did you really think no one would notice? Although I didn't, at first. Till your dear Adrian mentioned it." The mischief in her eyes was evident.

Adrian? She didn't want to believe Mara but then again, she didn't think Mara was one to lie in this situation. Or Adrian was one to lie about. Slowly Kara's emotions tumbled, like a storm brewing. She closed her eyes briefly, trying to calm herself.

Liv touched Kara's arm but she pulled away. Step by step, she moved towards Mara and seemed to sway. Her eyes held mischief. Mara frowned and tried to step back but Kara grabbed her hand and leaned so her lips were to the other girl's ears.

"I can hear your heartbeat." She whispered, her voice like a lulling melody.

"What..." Mara tried to pull away but the grip on her was sturdy.

"I know you can hear it too. The blood beginning to rush around frighteningly as your heart struggles to keep beating. Steady paced squeezes that seem insignificant but seem to cut your breathing. Can you feel it? Your will to live?" She whispered, her breath hot on Mara's ears and her eyes on Houston who seemed frozen in place.

Mara started gasping little by little. She tried using her nails to ply Kara's hand off her but she couldn't. Her mind couldn't seem to concentrate on that. It was concentrating on trying to live. Trying to steady her heart beats and put things back in place. She clawed at her neck as if it would widen her air pathways.

"Sometimes, you are supposed to keep quiet about the things you notice or are told. Nosey people are definitely not my favourite." Kara stepped back with a smile and brushed Mara's hair. "Pretty. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date with Destiny. "

Mara fell to the ground, clutching her chest, as Kara walked away. In anger, Houston sent a ball of fire flying past her head.

"The next one won't miss." He informed her with his hand still raised in her direction.

Klaus rushed to Mara's side. Her breathing was stabilizing but she had bruises where she had clawed her neck.

"Houston what the hell?" Liv tried moving towards them but he raised his second hand in her direction.

Kara chuckled. "Attacking an opponent when her back is turned."

"Taking an opportunity presented is smart don't you think?" He sneered.

"Ah, of course. It shouldn't surprise me, you are a Winterly after all." She mused.

"That's enough Houston."

Everyone turned to the new voice. Ash had come back into the hall. He moved towards his brother.

"Do not interfere dear brother." Houston glared at his brother but lowered his arm slowly.

"Mara needs help."

Ash gestured to Mara. Houston had forgotten her amidst his rage. He rushed to her side and picked her in his arms. He shrugged off Klaus and left the hall.

Kara hummed to herself, and skipped, as she made her way to the library. She smiled at people who gave her puzzled looks. She found Destiny arranging some books on a shelf.

"Ohh Kara..." She began then frowned.

Kara giggled. "You are quite perceptive Destiny."

Destiny grabbed her hand and pulled her to a corner.

"What happened Hera? Why are you here?" Destiny hissed and hoped no one was eavesdropping.

Hera plopped herself on a nearby desk and pouted.

"You don't sound happy to see me, and here I thought I'd made a friend." She wiped fake tears.

Destiny sighed. "What happened to Kara?"

Hera sighed. "Fine. She had a breakdown. Betrayal and the likes. She was due for it anyway."

"What do you mean betrayal?"

"Ugh, this Adrian boy told Mara about Kara's powers. She trusted him. Well I handled it, I don't think Mara will bother us anymore." Hera explained with a shrug.

Destiny rubbed her eyes. "You handled it how?"

"Squeezing her heart ofcourse. But no, I didn't kill her. Just a little lesson."

"Remind me how old you are?" Destiny glared and gritted her teeth.

Hera narrowed her eyes. "Almost eighteen but I'll have you know I've been dead longer than you've been alive."

"Yes yes, such achievement, you must be proud." Sarcasm dripped from Destiny's voice. "So old that you probably don't recognise sarcasm."

Hera's eyes flashed in anger and she hopped down. She grabbed Destiny's arm and had her wincing in pain.

"Know your place human." She said, her eyes sizzling, before storming off.

Being in Kara's mind, another soul in a body, it had been like watching a television. All the events seemed like a play written out for her to watch. But now, being in control of the body. Being surrounded by people. The feeling was engulfing.

She could feel anger pouring out of her pores. She knew she wasn't wanted. Knew the body wasn't hers and neither was the life but it still annoyed her.

She banged the door three times before going in, not waiting for a response.

"Hello Hera."

Reginald Deville greeted from his chair, glasses perched on his nose and a book in hand.

"Anastasia will hold her end of the bargain will she not?" She glided into his space.

Hera wondered if that was how all the staff quarters looked. Lonely. She moved around, there wasn't much to see.

"Deville's do not go back on their word." He told her.

"And yet here I stand in the body of her daughter." Hera sniggered and paused to look at him.

His eyes had never left her. Her heart softened and she felt close to him. The feeling of being with one of her own, she hadn't realised how much she had missed it.

"The time has not come." He stated.

"Has there been another... like me?' She asked and moved to a chest by the foot of his bed. It was locked.

Another blood bender.

Reginald placed the book on the stool beside him. He watched her run her hands over the design of the chest. Snowflakes had always been the symbol of the Devilles.

"Not that I know of. Other deviants, yes but no blood bender." He answered.

"Eliminated?"

He shook his head. "Their abilities were locked and they were sent to the human realm. The lock can only be undone by the one who placed them there."

The snowflakes made her nostalgic. She believed Kara was a sign that the Devilles were not to be forgotten.

"A Deville is good until he or she is not. " She translated the writing on the chest.

Reginald said nothing. He only watched her. He made a conscious effort not to forget that she was an ancestor and not his niece.

"What do you think? Am I still a Deville?" She turned to him with a sad smile.

"Kara is, Hera is not. One isn't but is, and the other was but isn't." He said to her.

Devilles were normal, they had dislikes for each other. Got into fights. Caused troubles. But a Deville ceased to be one when his or her heart turned dark. When one wished the other dead or killed another, be it a Deville or not. When one wished not to be a Deville. It was much too obvious on them, their white hair turned black. A Deville could not be any other person but others could become Devilles, based on their hearts.

They were a symbol of the beginning. The first supernaturals in history. From them came the others. But their pure heart was also the reason for their extinction.

"Do you think the man you sought to kill has been reincarnated?" Reginald inquired.

She stood up and walked to his door, pausing briefly.

"Yes."

"Then I hope, Hera, that you cause him more pain for his betrayal and your ruin."

"Without hesitation."
