[Chapter 4] - First Request

Sunlight hit me straight in the face as I woke up and greeted the day with a yawn, sleeping on a bed in another world does make your body somewhat uncomfortable. However, I paid no mind to it as I stretched my body, removing all traces of stiffness before cracking my neck as well.

The light of the day fully shone into the room as I opened the window of the room and looked out onto the main street of Emeridiate. There were all sorts of activities happening below me, ranging from guards patrolling the streets, armoured individuals with weapons walking off, stalls selling vegetables and fruits to grilled meat and jewellery.

I packed up the current luggage on me which was the 4 swords, 2 axes and 5 daggers I looted from the dead bandits. While I managed to earn some money selling off the horses, it's better if I made some more just in case my financial stability suddenly dropped to rock bottom.

Once I left my room and returned the key to the innkeeper, I stepped outside and onto the main street just to receive stares sent towards me in unison. I suppose a person wearing a dragon themed knight armour while carrying a sack of weapons can attract attention.

Ignoring the gazes, I looked around the street for a specific stall or building I can sell these weapons of to, it wasn't before long I caught sight of a shop with a signboard depicting two swords crossed over a shield. If that shop is exactly what I think it is then that's where I'm going next.

Entering the shop, I can see the room being crammed from every single nooks and crannies with weapons and protective gears and armours. There was a counter at the end of the room that also had a burning fireplace, as soon as I stepped in front of the counter, an aged man with bulging muscles appeared around the back with an expression that turned into that of surprise.

I guess it isn't every day you see a knight-like individual in your shop.

"Sir knight, what can I do for you?" Asked the owner of the shop.

"I wish to sell these secondhanded weapons, how much are they?" I replied, laying the set of weapons on the counter.

The owner then picked up one of the blades before peering closely at it while tapping his fingers on the counter, determining and calculating the worth of the weapons. He placed down the sword before inspecting the rest of the weapons, with a little nod and he looked back at me.

"Most of the blades for the swords are loose and can fall off any moment so they will have to be melted and reused, so I'd give you 3 silvers for each swords." Stated the owner before continuing.

"For the axes and daggers, all are in adequate conditions so there's no need to melt them. For the axes, about 5 silvers each and for the daggers, 2 silvers each."

"That's fine by me." I said as the owner nodded before disappearing behind the counter and then coming back with a small pouch.

"Here you go, 32 silvers." He said as I counted them and tested their legitimacy again.

So for now, I have 221 silver coins and 60 copper coins in total, sounds good enough for me. However, I still had some questions left that needs answering, especially for the fact that I may run out of money to use in the far future.

"Excuse me, you wouldn't happen to know how or where for a traveller to earn a steady income?" I questioned as the owner puts away the weapons.

"Income? Isn't sir knight an escort for a noble family or an adventurer?" Replied the owner.

Ah... so those armed people with weapons are adventurers like you see in novels and manga... why haven't I realized that yet? It was so obvious. However, if there is such things as adventurer then I guess it won't hurt to sign up to a guild or something similar.

Hence I gathered all the essentials I need before making my way out of the store and towards the building where most of the armed individuals which I assume to be adventurers came from. As I walked through the streets, it doesn't look much like a fantasy world but it's still another world.

From I can tell, the entire place looks like something out of the medieval ages, not sure if I already pointed that out but still, it's nice to actually breathe air that doesn't have any pollutants in it. I also took the opportunity to eavesdrop on the gossips that appeared everywhere.

"There seems to be more monsters appearing in the nearby forest..."

"I heard that the baron's also sending some men to the forest for a subjugation..."

"There are rumours saying that the elves in other countries are beginning to wage war against us..."

"Did you hear about the appearances of dragons in the north-eastern continent?"

It looks like all those video gaming paid off, of course the people gossiping would make things sound more interesting. However, dragons? Elves? That definitely confirms the fantasy-setting in this world which once again strengthens my belief of another world.

Heh, as if fighting as Kamen Rider Saber and using magic isn't enough.

I shook any unnecessary thoughts before stopping in front of a large building that simply screams "Guild", it had the height of an approximately three storey tall building with a large board at the top of the doors depicting a sword over... a sack of something on top of a shield?

Well, time to earn my badge.

"I want an adventurer certificate." I simply stated, standing in front of the counter which had a clerk who looked surprised.

Is it because of the dumb reason of my armour?

"Sir knight as a adventurer? I thought you didn't appear to be short on cash." Said the clerk before trailing off as I stared at him.

"Well, no matter. There is a simple test which is to just kill a beast on your own in the nearby forest." He quickly added before I could complain.

So this is just to prove myself, eh? Sounds easy enough.

After leaving the town, I sat down under a large tree providing an adequate shade from the sun as I bit into the roasted meat I bought from the street market, who knew a medieval-primitive world could provide such delicacies in simple forms?

Looking to my side, there laid three large boars with a stab wound in its head, I never thought hunting would be so easy with magic. However, this still doesn't sound like a fantasy world to me. Sure, these boars are larger than the ones back on Earth but I need something... oh?

I trailed off with my thoughts before looking to the side to see the bushes rustling which then brushed aside a large hulking figure. It was easily taller than me by a few feet and had a loincloth wrapped around its bulging blue skin filled with muscles, in its hand held a large wooden club.

It's a large troll.

"FINALLY! Something that ACTUALLY looks fantas-!" I began but the troll immediately tried to slam its club into my head.

However, I was faster since I took out the Kaenken Rekka and instantly decapitated the monster.

"Huh... that's... underwhelmingly anticlimactic." I commented, standing over the headless body.

Oh well, a task is a task.

I immediately got to work, taking out a bundle of large sacks I bought from the market before storing the carcasses into it. With the last knot tied up and secured, I head off back to the town.

The trip back was uneventful.

------------------------------------------------

"Is this sufficient enough? Can I get my certificate now?" I asked, dumping the sacks on the counter and in front of the clerk.

"You did this in half a day?" Said the clerk, surprised once again.

"Three boars, one troll." I replied.

"Let's see... boar carcasses and a blue troll head... where's the mana stone?" Questioned the clerk after counting the scores.

"Stone? Oh, you mean this little thing?" I answered, holding up a small glowing crystal.

Mana stone is like those loots dropped by enemies when you kill them in games, in this world specifically, mana stones are used for making magical tools for daily life. It can also be used to create more tools, obviously such as weapons! Staffs are the most popular ones to be made!

"Here's your certificate and five coins for the carcasses, and your name is..." The clerk trailed off, looking at me for my name to which I responded.

"Saber."

"Saber? Quite a unique name, here you go, don't lose it." Said the clerk, passing me my certificate.

"Thank you, now I'd like to take on a job." I stated.

"Yeah, you can find the requests on that board over there, normally you would choose from there." The clerk explained before I also remembered something.

"Got it, also, what's with the second and third levels of this building?" I asked curiously which the clerk answered.

"You don't know? The second floor of this guild is specifically built for the Merchant Guild, whereas this is the Adventurer Guild. The third floor is for meetings between esteemed individuals only."

"I see..." Thinking hard, I can only guess the "esteemed individuals" as royalties or the guild master themselves, well, no point in dwelling on these thoughts.

Time to chose a job.

I walked over to the board where there hung many papers with each of them having a specific request pasted on it, there are occasionally some requesting the subjugation of monsters such as goblins, orcs, trolls and kobolds.

Other than that, it's all small and simple requests.

I've also noticed something, despite the language written on the papers being completely and entirely foreign to me, I can read them as clear as day. Weird.

"Hm? Escorting a small band of merchants to the next town? Sounds interesting enough." I commented, grabbing the paper and walked back to the counter.

"I want to take this request." I stated as the clerk examined the contents.

"Alright, to do this, you're gonna have to take the staircases up to the Merchant Guild and find the group." The clerk instructed as I nodded.

I started walking towards the stairway and to the second level, the room is completely different from the Adventurer Guild room, instead of a cluttering mess of fellow adventurers talking with each other while chugging down alcoholic beverages.

The Merchant Guild is the opposite, it's completely organized albeit some corners being slightly messy due to the stacked up crates and barrels. There were tables placed all around the room with some fully occupied with merchants in deep discussion over their wares.

And it would appear my armour has caught some attention since I can feel eyes on me as I walked through the room and towards the counter, there stood another clerk who looked surprised at my appearance. Seriously, how easily are they all surprised?

"I have a request that asks for an escort for a certain group of merchants." I said, handing the paper to the clerk.

"I see! Allow me to call out for them." The clerk replied, running off around the room.

It wasn't after a minute or two before I see a group of simple-dressed individuals, all of them had the vibe that shouted "I'm a merchant!". Like the clerk, they seem surprised at my appearance, so should I start making a tally mark of many times my armour surprised others?

"Are you our escort? Sir knight?" One of them stepped up, asking me which I nodded in return.

"My name is Vincent Socramon, I am the leading merchant of the group." He introduced, now it's only nice if I do the same, right?

"I am Saber, an adventurer, please to make your acquaintances." I stated before walking off with them following me.

"Now then, off to the next town, we go!" I announced as my group made our way out of the Guild doors and soon out of the gate of Emeridiate.

I have a feeling this is going to be a hectic journey for some reason.
