Rai and Sona’s Beginning

"Come on, bro!"

The high-pitched voice screamed out to the second floor of the average household. That very voice was competent to wake me up with aching pain in my brain, that beat couldn't shut up for once. Why do I keep forgetting that we're siblings? Though again I guess we're not related by blood or anything of that sort.

I flipped out of my bed, prepared my clothes, and took a quick shower, though again my troubling sister was rushing me still. I'm sure we have time... Oh my god! We're going to be late. I quickly rushed out of the house my bag with my homework was already prepared.

I tripped down the stairs only to look up and see my mother giggling gently at me. Rosa Larkin, a former commander of the 23rd Infantry Division for the K.E.A. What made it even more intriguing was the fact she's part of the 17th generation of Kaiju Engineering Super Soldiers Project. She never told us that, but, I discovered her secret when I stumbled upon old records when hacking a certain database.

"Morning Rai."

"Morning, Mother." He quickly gave her a peck on the cheek before running out of the house with his shoelaces untied. Geez, how could that damn woman leave me to be late to school!? I ran as fast as I could, luckily for me, I was fast enough to get to class while being scolded by my homeroom teacher yet again because of my sister who pulls these pranks on me every day.

It was the third period which was Kaiju Knowledge, which was a bit out of the ordinary. As far as I knew it, there hasn't been a single Kaiju activity since two years ago and technology has advanced quite rapidly over those past two years. We have everything that we saw in movies, except for flying cars or killer robots like the Terminator.

"Oi! Snap out of it!"

I looked to my right to find the source of the voice, it was my adopted sister, Sona Larkin. She's quite the opposite of a waifu from anime culture, she has a muscular physique from her training and her goal to become of the K.E.A. Slayer Unit.

"Sorry Sis, I was too focused on how quiet the war has been against the Kaiju."

I said rubbing the back of my head as she only stared at me for a few moments before sighing.

"At this time I won't be able to fight Kaiju to show my skills off; especially to the N-Team. Even the strongest Kaiju Slayer, Hannah Jones.

I could see the excitement and potential she had to become the best Kaiju Slayer, though, for me, my only goal was to learn about my past. I'm 16 years old, and yet, I feel like I've lived for thousands of years.

"Maybe you can try-"

"Well, it's been a while, Rai, Sona!"

I knew that voice anywhere. That cocky, yet manipulative voice belonged to the childhood friend, Ryan Ohmar. Wait! Did he dye his hair pink? How is he still alive? His mother and father were sure to make sure he never dyed his hair again. Then again he's rebellious and also a supporter. He comes from a family that survived a deadly Kaiju attack in Houston, Texas.

"Ryan!"

Sona hugged him tightly, she was glad to see her childhood friend. Ryan looked at me and smirked at me.

"Y'know, I didn't know you were coming here to take the test."

I stood from my seat standing my ground, the air tension rose higher that it was as if two beasts were about to fight for territory.

"Of course, did you think I was going to let you down and not show you who has a chance to become the next strongest?"

Ryan said directly towards me, my blunt expression almost grew an irk mark, but again, this rivalry has been going on for quite some years now. No matter what it was, we turned anything into a competition no matter how dumb it was.

"So! Whoever scores the highest wins, right?"

I asked with confidence, my grin showing out.

"Please don't fight you guys!"

They turned to see the brains of the friend group, Zuri Bolt, she was born in South America, Rio. She's more of a woman who uses intelligence than strength and athleticism.

"Yo Zuri, ready for the test?"

"Of course I am! Did you three even study?"

We all looked at each other and nodded beside me. I felt ashamed, no matter what I did, I always avoided studying. Then again I am the same teen who is still able to hold a 4.7 GPA.

"Rai, were you playing video games for the entire two weeks?"

She glared at me with her killer eyes, why did this happen to me? I tried to think of an alternative but a book came at my face at full speed. I stumbled back, Sona and Ryan stood there not caring considering this happens all the time. But, this time was different considering the fact red liquid dripped from the nose.

"Are you okay, dude?"

Ryan asked walking up to me where my blood dripped on his shoes. He looked at Zuri.

"I'm sorry Rai. I didn't mean to hurt you."

"It's okay. I'm fine."

I always liked how my friends and family cared about me, to be honest, I almost gave up during the 8 years of my life with the bullying, trauma from the orphanage, and even the loud noise of monsters attacking cities.

Ryan took me to the bathroom, I turned on the hot water soaked a paper towel, and cleaned the blood off my nose.

"You sure you're okay?"

Ryan asked me with sincerity. I looked at him smiled and responded.

"Of course I am. It's just a wound that can easily be healed."

"Rai? You sure you want to continue with this?"

"Yeah."

I put my hand on his shoulder and chuckled. The PA system turned on and announced:

All testers, please make your way down to the gym to begin the test!

We looked at each other and smirked. It's time to begin our competition.

At the gym, we began our physical test from physical where we lifted weights, and ran to test our endurance and stamina, pull-ups, and squats. Even made us do a blood draw.

Then again the real test was going to determine what job we get in the K.E.A.

Question #1

Kaiju bodies are resistant to conventional types of weaponry, what weapons are used to penetrate the first skin layer of the Kaiju?

A. Nexus

C. Castle Bravo

D. Type 10 Hitomaru

Of course, this answer was easy since there's only one material that was discovered to harm and kill Kaiju and that was known as Locrite, a metal that was stated to be almost nigh indestructible and capable of cutting through the thick layers of even the strongest Heaven Class Kaiju. And the weapons that were created to kill Kaiju were known as Nexus. And there was even something about a way to open a portal to the dimension of Kaiju.

I didn't believe that since there's no evidence, but, a scientist researcher named Louise Hems claimed to have seen it when an Alpha Class Kaiju entered a strange portal from within the sky.

Somewhere in the tunnel system, the blood that leaked from his nose still flowed in the water to the ocean, it turned from a dark crimson red to a strange purple color dimmed with a glowing blue light color.

Once it reached the water, it suddenly disappeared, opening up a strange wormhole with an eye looking out of it, growling menacingly.

Location: K.E.A California Base, Ground Military Base

"Sir you have to look at this!"

A researcher handed the commander of the California Mech Base a paper that had a reading over Category V of radiation levels.

"Bring me the K-Team! ASAP!"

"Yes Sir!"

One of the soldiers saluted and hurried to the communications room to contact the K-Team which was deployed to investigate a strange reading in Moscow.

It's been about 2 hours 41 minutes and 23 seconds since we've begun the test and I haven't even studied, yet here I am, finishing up the test. Zuri has nothing to worry about since I'm pretty confident about my answers. As the others finished their test and were collected, something shivered down my spine. A killer intent being sent to me, that's impossible.

This is not a drill, a Type-Alpha Kaiju has been discovered!

The students all around began to panic and scream the teachers tried their best to maintain the situation. The ground shook violently, and the Tv that was screwed to the wall turned on, showing that the Kaiju was none other than an average Type-Alpha which had the size of 350 meters tall. This Kaiju codename is referred to be known as Crimson Rex.

Sona's eyes widened with fear, she could hear its malicious roar from the school. It was looking for something, its behavior showed it swiping buildings out of the way. The destination was the school... why here?

"We have to get out of here!"

"What are you talking about, Rai?"

"That Kaiju is looking for something and it's heading to the school."

Everyone got silent as I spoke of the Kaiju looking for something. Could it be something under the school? A sharp pain entered my brain as I held my head tightly, I could see flashes of something that belonged to the Kaiju, someone's blood. But, who did it belong to?

A helicopter approached the tyrant beasts and unloaded sheer forces of ammunition at it. It was barely making a dent but it was buying time for the K-Team.

The hangar doors opened up and the leader of the K-Team Hannah Jones, America's Strongest Soldier. Her cold red eyes examined the beast for any openings.

"This beast is hunting, I can smell a higher toxicity than the beast here." She stated as she looked behind her to see her Lieutenant.

"Man, it's been a while since I've seen a Type-Alpha but the strange thing is, its focus is the school up ahead by a few kilometers." The middle-aged man mumbles as he prepares his LMG68-1x. That was Europe's sharpest shooter, Xavier Beaufils.

"So! Ashon ready to test the new weapon from Africa?" Asked Xavier who looked next to him. Ashton, a warrior of Swahili. He's the only man that could give Hannah a challenge. He's the third-in-command of the K-Team

"This Kaiju seems to be interested in the school, but then again there must be something it wants." He jumped. He jumped outside of the drop ship with a stoic expression still resting on his face.

"He seems to think this is easy." Presumed Xavier. "That beast seems to be manipulated by something or got a power boost." The others jumped out of the hangar to slay the beast.

"I'll go evacuate the school... the rest of you go kill that monster," Hannah ordered as she skydived towards the school.

The students and teachers looked up to see the strongest soldier landed on the concrete ground not showing any signs of being injured.

"Are you civilians okay?" She asked.

"Uh.. no! The school has so many people that the evacuation is taking longer than usual." The principal responded in distress. He pointed to me who I was carrying Zuri and another teacher.

"Young man, are you alright?"

She asked me with no expression. I nodded, and the sharp pain came back, I quickly kicked her back as a block of destroyed concrete passed by the two.

"That was close."

"You got good reflexes."

"Yeah, I get that a lot, right Sona?"

I didn't hear her answer, she was missing, she left the building with the first batch of kids maybe she made her way back home, it's safe for now anyway.

"Rai! Sona left to go watch the K-Team in action!"

Ryan came running towards me, he showed me on his phone that Sona was running towards the danger. The anger in my soul almost broke its limit.

"Stay here and watch over the evacuation!"

"Where are you going?"

"To bring back my sister!"

I ran as my legs could take me, I had to save Sona, if something happened to her before I got there... continued my way towards the destruction and death up ahead. The K-Team has been damaging the Kaiju, yet, it won't go down. Suddenly the beast roars with a high-pitched screech. I covered my ears and looked up to see it looking down on me, I felt useless against that monster.

"Bring it on!"

I kept my smile to the end. Even if this life was short live I still wanted to remember where I'm from.

"NOT ON MY WATCH!"

I turned to see Sona grabbing my arm and running away from the beast.

"SONA! YOU'RE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!!"

She only giggled. Then again, it's Sona, she'll do anything to impress the K-Team. I tapped a button on my watch as two pods were dropped in front of them.

"I've been working on this for a while. I figured that we were going to need them in time when we became Kaiju Slayers."

"Thank you so much, Rai."

"Brother and Sister for life!"

We said in unison as we grabbed our appropriate weapons. Mine was an Exo-761 or Apocalypse Blade. The blade was colored with a crimson-red shade when being made.

And Sona's was the Exo-523 or White Lotus a spear that dwells on speed and power.

"Let's do this!"

The beast growled trying its best to step on them, then again it was futile against these us. We went straight for the legs, slashing at the back legs causing it to collapse down. It got back up and used its tail it hit me away into a building.

"...Ouch..."

Sona acknowledged that there was more power that was built into the weapon, she used her blood to enhance its destructive capabilities further. She jumped up and aimed for the center, the hard defense that this Kaiju possessed was almost impossible, she almost lost her grip until I came and activated a power of Apocalypse. The sword glowed a brighter red as I slashed at the head. We put all of our strength into the weapons able to cut through it with ease.

"Yes...! Wwwwwaaaahh!"

The two were falling for dear life they used up the power they had used to win against the Kaiju until... the two were caught by Hannah and Ashon.

"Not bad you two! Even I'm impressed." They looked back at the split-in-half Kaiju that reformed to be a Type-Beta Class Kaiju.

"It seemed something did boost that Kaiju to be a Type-Alpha Kaiju.. and the radiation is less radioactive than before." Xavier looked at the kids who held their own Nexus weapon in hand and sighed.

"I'm guessing these are Dr. Larkin's kids." Asked Hannah. She seemed very uninterested in the two. They defeated a Type-Beta that even gave the others a hard time to kill. Not only that she felt the kick that I gave her for some reason.

"How about you come to join the K.E.A. I can see the potential inside both of you. Don't worry about this. We always take the credit so don't worry." Ashton spoke as he patted Sona's head.

I felt weak at the time, but, there's something I never forgot, the hearing of lightning and thunder....

Location: Private Bunker under Utah

After two long weeks of being in a coma, I was finally explained what happened. My sister Sona was able to score high enough to become a Kaiju Slayer and joined the K-Team. My mother had her hands full with studying the Kaiju we slayed.

"So what's going to happen to me?" I asked the Chief Executive of K.E.A. America, Eric Coleman.

"Well, son." He spoke with his ruffled voice. "Since you scored higher on the test than anyone else we can give you a chance to join the Kaiju team."

"I see... then what about my friends? We promised to be in the same group."

"Yeah about that. Not all your friends chose to be a Kaiju slayer. Zuri wanted to be a researcher for new medical studies. And Ryan was able to become a Kaiju slayer yet barely able to get active."

"Then tell my friends I'm fine and safe, I want to become a Kaiju slayer as well.."

I clenched my fists holding back my shameful tears, why didn't I just stay at the evacuation?

"And son, we need to ask you something about your physical condition tomorrow, but, for now, get some rest. I have a team ready for you." He stood up from my bed and walked to the door.

"The world is changing, it's time to think about more than your friends and family."
