From where she stood at the display case, his mother chided him in Cantonese. When he tried to say something, she interrupted, “Not later. I want to go now.”

Irritation danced across his face. “You put her up to this,” he muttered. “I liked it better when you two weren’t talking to each other. I’m beginning to think this is a conspiracy.”

“Welcome to my world,” I joked.

Lee gave me a withering look but when I winked at him, he busied himself with a nearby file and ignored me to keep from grinning.

“Come on,” I cajoled. I leaned back in the chair and, glancing at his mother to make sure she wasn’t watching, spread my knees farther apart. One hand trailed up my jean-clad thigh to press into my crotch and in a deepened, throaty voice, I moaned, “Come on, Lee. Don’t make me beg.”
