Just To Meet You

*COMPLETED* "If you don't believe me, then follow the family rules." Her eyes closed as she faced her fiancé's accusations and distrust. She inwardly convinced herself. 'This is the last time I'm giving my heart to you, Peter. If you choose her, then we are over.' With a blade in his hand, he charged forward. He watched as the sharp tip of the weapon meets her soft, porcelain chest. Shocked by her unmoving body, he pulled the blade away from the broken skin. Her white top was dyed scarlet while the blade had already dropped to the floor, making a "clang" sound. "Why didn't you dodge?!" Peter Sin attempted few steps forward to apply pressure on her wound. It hurt, but she held in her cries. Blood squirted to his sleeve and shirt when he forced the blade out of her wound. Holding the bloody mess near her heart, a broken smile cracked on her face as she retreated away from the man in front of her. "At the end, you still chose her words over mine. You've never believed in me, but it doesn't matter anymore. Let's break up. Even if we pass by each other in the future, we'll be nothing but strangers." He tried approaching her again, but failed as she strode backwards in larger steps than before. "Mister Sin, goodbye." "Selina!" He screamed, but held back from chasing after her lonesome figure. His heart was a mess as he fell onto the ground and stared at the blood stain on his clothes. __________________ Selina Gu drove straight home where she had prepared herself to announce her failed engagement to her mother, Katrina Gu. Pressing her wound, she slowly leaned against the wall to bring herself to the living room where her mom's voice echoed loudly. Selina: "So, all my life..I've been nothing but a chess piece. Are you done with your game?" Katrina: "...Daughter." Selina: "Daughter? Do you know how many years and efforts I've wanted to hear you call me daughter? But all this is fake. Just an act. I've always convinced myself I'm the one who could do better because I wanted to hear a compliment from you. But you? You've forced me to the edge and suffocated me!" _____________________ Katrina: "It's mother's fault! Don't jump. I'm begging you!" Bryan (Selina's brother): "Did you get bullied? Brother will protect you. Please, come back down! It's dangerous to stand at the edge! You don't know how to swim!" "I don't want to play this game anymore. I'm tired of my life. Didn't you want revenge? I'll complete it for you. Sorry, brother." Selina fell forward with her eyes closed. She didn't struggle as she desired to forget everything. ___________________ Assistant: "Mister Hui, after multiple investigations, we have confirmed that the girl you have been searching for is Selina Gu." _________________ Awakening from her coma after a month later, Selina woke up hearing a familiar voice by her side. Although she couldn't recognize him, her instincts told her he wasn't going to harm her. "Selina! You're awake!" Jason Hui tossed his laptop to the table, ditching the video meeting he was in and hugged her. "Does it hurt anywhere? Are you thirsty? Hungry? I'll go get a doctor!" He spat out countless questions, confusing her greatly. ________________ Jason held her hands, "It's okay if you don't remember me. As long as I remember our promise, that's all it matters. I won't let anyone hurt you anymore." _________________ "Jason Hui!" "Wife, if you're not happy about something you just have to say it. No need to shout. You'll get a sore throat." Selina pointed to the rubber band on the counter, "I forgot to tie my hair, but my hands are dirty from marinating meat. Do you know how to tie girl's hair?" A minute later, a messy ponytail was created and Selina looked at him with a speechless expression. Noting to himself on his calendar, he typed, "Learn how to do wife's hair." Is the Soup Spiked?

As dinner proceeded, exquisite dishes were served on the dining table. After a portion of the seafood soup was served to each person, the manager swallowed a nervous gulp. He watched as everyone picked up their spoon to take a sip of the hot soup with a heavy chest.

In the past, Jason only dined in the restaurant with his family. Therefore, the manager was shocked to see him bring his friends for dinner. According to media gossip, Jason rarely eats with people he wasn't fond of. Even if it was his clients, he would still refuse to join dinner events. Hence, the manager was certain these people must be some big shots with great importance to him.

The manager's main focus was on Selina, who was sitting on Jason's right side. At the moment, Selina was busy blowing steam off the soup in the concave part of the metal spoon. While everyone already took sips of their soup, Selina was having a difficult time consuming it because it was too hot.

Only those who were close to her knew that she was a foodie with a cat's tongue. Hot items were never her forte. She had to wait until it cools down before she could taste it or else her tongue would become sore after the meal.

As she focused on cooling down the soup, the corner of her eyes was fixated on the manager's reaction. He seemed extremely interested in what she was doing. Perhaps he didn't notice it, but his stares almost dug a hole through her body.

Earlier, she thought something was on her face, so she asked Jessica in a low voice. After confirming nothing was on her face, she tried brushing off his sharp stares. Unfortunately, she could feel his stares from behind, and she didn't like it.

Finally, she's had enough. She decided to taste her spoonful of soup before addressing the problem to him. Then, she realized the change in the manager's expression. His eyes glowed in anticipation when her lips touched the spoon. She frowned and tested him again.

She brought the spoon away from her lips and blew on it again. This time, she caught his hand tightening on top of his other hand. Frustratedly looking at the delicious soup below, she stirred the content in her bowl and checked if there was anything suspicious in it.

'Nothing...then, why is he staring at me? Could this soup be spiked?' She thought to herself.

She set the spoon down on the plate and turned around with furrowed brows. "Excuse me, but is there something wrong with the soup?"

Everyone looked at the manager when Selina brought up the question. Jason reached out to her hand after seeing her frown. "What's wrong?" Jason has been observing his wife for a while. She didn't touch the soup at all.

She continued staring at the manager whose forehead was covered by a layer of sweat as if he was caught in a bad act. Under her interrogative gaze, he answered. "Nothing is wrong with the soup. Miss, if you are dissatisfied with the soup, I can have someone change it for you."

"Are you sure the soup isn't spiked? You've been suspiciously staring at me since the start. When the spoon gets closer to my lips, you look like you were looking forward to me drinking it. So, I brought the spoon away from my lips purposely to test you. For some reason, you acted nervously. If there's nothing wrong with the soup, then why are you staring at me?" Selina straightforwardly addressed the issue.

The manager scratched the back of his head, looking embarrassed. "My sincere apologies for causing discomfort, miss. There is nothing wrong with the soup. I was anxious about whether the food is to your taste."

"But why me?" Selina arched her left brow in confusion.

"This is embarrassing to say, but Mister Hui has been our VIP for many years. As the manager, I've always serviced him when he dines in our restaurant. Other than his family, I've never seen him come with anyone else. Though he came with a group today, you were the only girl who sat next to him. While choosing entrees earlier, I could tell Mister Hui was fond of your preferences. Hence, I focused my attention on you." He explained quickly as he caught the dangerous glares from the men at the table.

Selina turned her head towards Jason with a small smile. "He's curious about us. Seeing how anxious we've made him; shouldn't we fulfill his curiosity?" She winked as she rubbed the ring on his hand.

He nodded, raised their interlocked hands and showed the manager their matching rings. "You have a good eye, right? We're newlyweds."

The manager blinked twice to confirm what he saw. Both rings were worn on their ring fingers, which indicated that they were husband and wife. He politely smiled and bowed slightly. "Sorry for disturbing your meal, Mrs. Hui. Please enjoy the rest of the meal. As a congratulation for your marriage, the desserts will be on the house."

Smiling satisfyingly, Selina retracted her gaze and continued drinking her soup. Suddenly, two vibrations interrupted the peace at the table. Kyla and Jessica looked at each other before taking their phones to check their notifications.

"Isaac?" Kyla and Jessica looked at each other with a speechless expression.

After reading the texts, they exchanged their phones and read each other's message. Jessica raised her left brow as they switched back their phones and typed a response to Issac.

"Is everything okay?" Selina saw the helpless expressions on their faces.

Jessica let out a soft giggle. "We're okay, but my brother isn't! He's only leaving for a day and a half but he already packed Kyla's luggage and delivered it personally to my condo before heading to the airport. Then, he sent me reminders of food Kyla couldn't eat as if I could cook or something."

"Awww, he's so sweet!! Oh, right. I forgot that you guys needed a change of clothes. Yi Wei, do you need to stop by your home to get your necessities?" Selina suddenly remembered that her nightgowns were personally customized to her size.

Assistant Li shook her head. "No need for the trouble. There were plentiful incidents where Jessica got drunk and I had to take care of her. Since then, I've decided to keep a set of my daily necessities at her place in case of emergencies. Since Kyla's belongings are already at Jessica's place, we can just head there. No need for an extra stop."

"Alright, then after dinner we will stop by Jessica's place first." Selina smiled at the thought of tonight's reunion slumber party.
