182 Confrontation

"Did you just raise your voice at my husband?" Selina's intense gaze narrowed at Mister Lai's humorless face. Tilting her lip upwards, she laid her head comfortably on Jason's chest as she acted coy. Her harmless appearance and behavior lowered everyone's guard.

"I just asked you, sir. Were you yelling at my husband just now? You want an explanation, correct? Then, I'll give you one." She lifted her face, revealing a sweet smile at Jason. Leaving his embrace, she placed her hands on his cheeks and tiptoed to give him a kiss.

Once her lips touched his, the familiar warmth gave her a great sense of security. As their lips parted, she stared affectionately at her husband and licked his lips. "I'll be back for my prize later, hubby." She whispered.

Turning around, she crossed her arms righteously. "First of all, this is our party. We are the host tonight. We apologize for any inconvenience that occurred, but we will not be responsible for this mess that Miss. Lai is wailing about. Second of all, even if my husband did accidentally whack the waiter, it is because he was protecting me. So, what did he do wrong?"

"Third of all, your daughter was in the waiter's way. This was nobody's fault but her own misfortune. As for the responsibility you wanted us to take, we can't give it. Why? Because your daughter being single has nothing to do with us. She's unmarried, so what? We can't magically give her a prince charming. But if you insist, we could do something. We can have the waiter guy who fell on her to marry her right now on the spot."

"What?! How could you have such dirty man marry my daughter? Don't you feel shameless saying such words? How are you speaking for Mister Hui? Your words don't count." Mister Lai found the quickest words to refute, but none of his comebacks were strong enough to fight hers.

"Eh? But Mister Lai, I'm speaking logic. Don't you understand? I'll break it down with simple questions. Was it my husband who touched Miss. Lai? Was it him who pushed her down? Was it him who toppled her in public? The answer is obviously a no."

"So, in what means would he have to be responsible for your daughter's fall? Why don't you ask the man who caused her fall these questions instead? He is the one who needs to be responsible for it, not Jason." Selina nearly laughed when she heard the man's inquiry.

Walking back to Jason's side, Selina hooked her arm around his. "As for what Mister Lai asked, I am Jason's legal wife. Right, my words can't represent him. So, ask him yourself. Are my words incorrect in any way? Does he disagree with anything I just said out loud? If he says yes, then so be it." Selina looked at Jason when she spoke.

He loosened her hand on his arm and settled it on her waist to steady her balance. Facing everyone, he smiled. "My wife's words are exactly the words I have in my mind. Besides, as a married man, what kind of responsibility can I take for Miss. Lai? Actually, what responsibility does Mister Lai expect me to take?"

Hearing such provocative words, Trang couldn't help but stand up to argue for her sake. "Then get a divorce! Separate and take me as your partner! That's the responsibility I want! What's wrong with eyeing a perfect man? Yes, you're married, but who said you wouldn't get a divorce in the future when you get tired of her?"

Selina laughed mockingly at her remark. She raised her brows and replied to her. "Miss. Lai! This was not the first time you've tried getting close to my husband. Tsk. Tsk. Did you not know how loud your words were when I made my entrance? I'm sure everyone heard it. Anyway, I've decided to let many things go because it wasn't worth the chaos. Now that you've publicly announced your target as my husband, do you expect me to let you off?"

"Do I look like such a pushover to you? Miss. Lai, I think you should know by now that being Mrs. Hui is not a simple job. So, with what confidence do you have in replacing me? Forget the fact that we won't divorce...even if I ever divorce my husband, it will never be you to take my place."

Trang's face flushed from anger. Her breathing quickened as Selina attacked her with statements she couldn't find reasonings to argue back. She pointed at Selina and shouted. "You're just a tiny artist who helped Hui Corps when Jason needed it. Jason decided to be with you only because he wanted to use you! Watch. Watch him throw you off like a used rag later! You're a nobody!"

"Are you sure about what you just said? Miss. Lai." The guests cleared a path as a petite figure joined the conversation. Rosanna walked up to Selina and brushed her slightly pink cheeks.

"Mom." Selina called out to her with a smile. She turned to face Trang with a radiant smile. "At least I have the talent to help my man overcome obstacles. Still better than a useless dreamer who doesn't understand her own place. It's good to have dreams, but know your limits. If you could focus that attention on leading your family's business, then you'll probably be successful now."

Caressing Selina's cheeks carefully, Rosanna smiled. "Oh, dear. Did you accidentally take the wrong drink? You smell like red wine. Even though you have a little bit of perfume on, I can still smell it." She cared less about the commotion, but mainly on Selina's condition.

"Old lady, you should scram and not pretend like you're some high-quality dish. Leave us younger generations to our own fight." Trang growled at the sight of another person spoiling Selina. It was obvious whose side Rosanna was on.

"My. My. Miss. Lai, no wonder you haven't found yourself a partner. Your voice and choice of words are so terrible that it pricks others. I doubt anyone would like to be with someone as social laddering as you. Anyway, I'm only here to tell you that our family's Selina is not a nobody. She is the heiress of the Clover family. So, no matter how much you compare yourself, you are lacking in every way possible."

Rosanna focused her attention on Selina, who was busy rubbing her face against Jason's chest. Her eyes were nearly closed. Seeing how fatigue she was, Rosanna suggested Jason to bring her upstairs after the situation is over.
