"Okay..so.." Selina broke the silence after taking a while to digest all the information she just heard. There was a short pause between her words as if she was trying to form the questions she had in mind.
"Selina, dear. Listen to me. You don't have to shoulder all the responsibility to yourself. The most important thing right now is you and your babies health. So promise me, for the rest of your pregnancy, don't stress over the Clover family." Rosanna could see the struggle in her eyes.
"No, this is a responsibility I must take either sooner or later. I'm more concerned about my babies. Mom, you said one of them will have the clover birthmark. Then..my daughter will have twenty five years..to live right?" She stroked her tummy gently.
"Yes and no. Yes, she will have a time limit, but as long as she meets the right person or we find the right person for her, she will be alright. She can then lead a healthy life after that. I am a living example." Since Selina already heard everything, there was no point in hiding any facts from her.
"But what are the chances for us to find that person? Then she will only live till twenty five years old and suffer from pain. And what will happen to our other daughter with the butterfly birthmark? Being a successor to the family would mean losing her freedom at a young age." Selina frowned deeply at the thought of her babies future.
Perhaps the babies in her tummy felt the change in Selina's emotion, they lightly kicked around in her stomach. The sudden stir in her stomach reminded Selina that she cannot get too irritated. She stroked the area where she felt the kicks and smiled bitterly. "Mommy isn't angry. Mommy is okay."
"Selina, I know this is really difficult. When I was growing up, nobody believed I would live past twenty five. I've counted my own time and never thought I would meet your dad and end up having a family of my own. I never imagined being able to live to this age. But it is also because of this that you shouldn't feel discouraged before trying."
"If this can happen to me, it can happen for my grandchild. Plus, we will all look for the right candidates for her. And like I've mentioned before that there is a master in a secluded place. He will be able to train her, so her health will strengthen. Although pain is inevitable, she won't live any different than others."
"I won't let my grandchildren go through what me and my sister did in the past. I won't let them take up the stress from the Clover family at a young age. As for you, as long as your parents are alive and well, nobody can make you take up the successor of the family. You hear me? If you don't want to be the successor, we won't force you."
Rosanna had already spoken to Eric before about this. Although it is only right to pass the successor position to Selina after reuniting with her, this will only happen under the circumstances where Selina is willing to do so. If she is not willing to take this position, then as her parent, Rosanna would never allow anyone to force her to do what she doesn't want.
Jason wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Selina, let's not focus on finding the right person. For the time being, let's take one step at a time. Worrying about the future won't make any changes occur. Let's wait for them to be born first and figure things out as we go on. Okay? Regardless of their health, we will still love them."
It took Selina some minutes to calm her mind. When her thoughts were cleared, she knew they were right. "Yes, we'll take little steps at a time. We'll protect our babies together. And mom, it's been hard on you. For you and dad to keep this from me, it must have been difficult. But I've grown up. After my babies are born, I'll take on the successor position."
Selina decided that she can only protect her loved ones by holding the most power. She cannot allow her family to be harmed in any way. Perhaps this was the power of being a mother, she felt an endless stream of courage.
"Are you sure?" Rosanna looked into her eyes to see if she had any trace of hesitance. There was none.
"Yes," Selina gave her a definite answer.
"Okay, I'll let your dad know about your decision. In the meantime, take care of yourself. You're eating and sleeping for three people. Don't worry about anything. We will deal with those people and eliminate anyone who could harm us." Rosanna smiled for the first time today. It felt as if something heavy was lifted from her shoulders after she told them everything.
- Two Months later -
"Ahhhhhhh!" Perspiration slid down Selina's forehead.
"Follow after me. Breathe in. Breathe out. Okay, very well. Come on, we're almost there. Another push. You can do it!" The doctor cheered as she focused on helping Selina concentrate on pushing the baby out.
"Ahhhhhhh!" Selina bent forward as she exerted her strength to push her baby out. Her fists clenched tight to the point her veins nearly jumped out of her skin.
"Wahhhhh!" A loud cry echoed in the delivery room. Some let out a sigh as they watched the first baby come out of Selina. Jason's gaze landed on the tiny baby whose voice was loud and strong. Under the doctor's assistance, he became the first to catch his baby when the baby was delivered.
"Congratulations, you have a daughter." The doctor announced before handing the baby to the nurse.
"Ahhhhhh!" Selina gritted her teeth as she gave another hard push for her second baby to deliver safely.
"Yes, that's it. I see the head! One more push, you got this! Almost! Almost there!" The doctor continued guiding Selina.
A minute later, a softer wail echoed in the room. Jason also caught his second daughter when she was born. He let out a small chuckle and sniffled. His eyes watered at the sight of his two babies. They were so small and soft that he was afraid his strength might hurt them.
Jason kissed Selina's forehead and held her hand to his lips. "You've worked hard, honey. Thank you..Thank you so much for giving birth to our babies."
Hearing his heartfelt confession made her vision blur. She reached out to wipe away his tears. "We have a long way to go from here."
After the babies were ready to be held by them, the nurses brought them over. With one in his arm, the other baby was placed in her arms. Selina let out a soft laugh as tears ran down her cheeks. "Hi, babies. I'm your mommy. This is your daddy. Welcome to the family. We love you so much."
