Approximately forty minutes later, Bryan walked out of the bathroom carrying Celinda in his arms. Her hair covered half her face as she leaned comfortably on his chest, mumbling incomprehensible words. He chuckled, recalling how drowsy she became halfway into drying her hair.
She bobbed her head downwards at one point and jolted back up immediately. Her speech slurred as she denied the fact that she fell asleep. He didn't speak about her behavior, but he prepared her toothbrush with toothpaste on it. After drying her hair, he helped her brush her teeth and washed her face.
Once she was ready for bed, he hugged her in his embrace and offered to carry her to bed. Her body responded quicker than her words as her arms wrapped around him like hugging a huge teddy bear. She mumbled, "nn." Chuckling, he held her in princess style and walked out of the bathroom.
Carefully climbing onto the bed, Bryan clipped the edge of the blanket between his toes and flipped it over. Slowly, he arranged her in a comfortable sleeping position and covered her up with the blanket he just tossed aside.
"Sleep tight, honey. We'll call them later." He bent over and planted a kiss on her forehead. After tucking her in bed, he walked back to the restroom to put the items back to their original spot and washed up for bed.
Meanwhile, Kyla's mood swings hasn't gotten any better. She barely had the time to sleep as she had digestive issues. Every time she crawled back in bed; she'd rush back to the toilet and stay for some time. Worst of all, she couldn't vomit. She felt as if she was suffering from seasickness on a cruise. Like the waves crashing against each other, her body is unwilling to relax.
However, in her perspective, the worst was feeling like crap because nobody was there to take care of her. Earlier, she tried booking an appointment with her family physician. Unfortunately, the doctor was on vacation for a whole month. When speaking to the nurse, she tried being as polite as she could. Being half alive while leaning against the toilet was not the best timing to test her tempers.
Her eyes reddened as she remembered the nurse's words.
(flashback)
"Doctor Clio is on vacation? Sorry, I didn't know that, but I am feeling very ill right now. Is it possible for me to book an appointment with a different physician? Is there anyone else who may be available in the next few days?" Kyla wiped her lips with a wet cloth. Her legs felt too weak to stand up, so she was leaning against the toilet.
A few mouse clicks echoed through the call before the nurse answered her in a hurried tone. "Sorry, ma'am. All doctors are unavailable at this time to take new patients. If you feel unwell, you can try going to the nearest hospital."
Although the nurse said the words in an impatient tone, Kyla has no strength to fight with her. She almost whispered into the phone from lacking energy. "Then, can you give me a referral? Send it to me through email or fax it over? Without a referral, it will be a long wait if I went to the hospital."
"Sorry, ma'am. Referrals can only be distributed and written by your main physician who is on vacation right now. If you are having symptoms of a common illness, then over-the-counter medicine should be able to improve your condition. Hospitals are a longer wait, but the doctors might repeat the same thing I just said. It might take hours before a doctor would come to see you. So, you would end up waiting for a piece of paper when you could've solved the problem by taking medicine at home." The nurse rambled on about medicine.
Right when Kyla wanted to hang up the call, she heard a familiar voice on the nurse's side. That voice belonged to Madam Wang and she did not sound pleasant at all. Her presence alone implemented fear in the nurse who was speaking to her. Squinting, Kyla asked, "Are you sure my physician is on vacation right now? Or is it somebody's pressuring demand?"
"Uh...." The nurse didn't know what to respond at this point because Madam Wang was staring fiercely at her by the counter desk. Her threatening aura sent chills down her nape reaching deep into her spine. Goosebumps formed and nearly every strand of her body hair was standing up from Madam Wang's glare.
"What are you looking at? Did that vixen say something shameless? Haha, she wants to see a doctor? Let her rot at home and die! We won't even get her a coffin. I told you to be smart when dealing with her! Just a few coughs and she wants to waste our resources? Tell her to scram! I won't let any doctors in this city see a patient like her!" Madam Wang snickered, speaking loud and clear without a sense of shame.
"Can you pass the phone over to the old woman in front of you? Thanks." Kyla asked the nurse.
At first, Kyla thought that suffering from nausea was bad enough. Now, she had a change of mind. The voice of an old hag testing her tolerance during the nauseousness has been so far the most unfavorable chunk of the process.
After some rustling sounds, a presumptuous tone followed by a piercing high pitch scream nearly turned Kyla deaf. She had to bring the phone away from her ear.
"What do you want, vixen? Hah, were you coincidentally sick and wanted to visit the doctor? In this city, no physician will see you. Under my order, don't expect yourself to get a cure for whatever chronic illnesses you could have! Maybe if you beg me and my mood improves will I reconsider letting the doctor hear you out and give you a verbal prescription." Madam Wang leaned against the counter table, crossing her feet leisurely.
Kyla let out a chilling laugh as she wiped residues of her vomit off the corners of her lips. "Yo, old hag. Did you think I would be willing to speak to you because I want to make you happy or kiss up to your ass? Keep your wishful dreams locked away because it'll never happen."
