It was a Friday evening when Jason jogged through the park with the moonlight and park lights lighting his path. Beautiful leaves and petals fell and swirled around him and the fragrance of fall perfumed the place. A few people were out too enjoying the evening breeze. Strolling, sitting on the benches and caught a man playing fetch with his dog.
He got to where the famous lovers fountain was, beautifully crafted at the center of the park. The fountain held four cupid fairies kneeling at the edge of it. Water sprouted from their sculpted arrows with their head held up. Beneath them, in the water were thousands of silver coins glittering in the fountains light. Stories had it that if you tossed a coin in and made a wish you'd find true love. He felt some metal at his back pocket and stopped. He placed his hand in thinking it was a coin but as he brought it out to eye view it was just a silver button from a denim jacket. Either ways he tossed it and briefly wished to be with his girlfriend forever. He loved her so much and she was the right one for him...he was sure of it.
Jason was ready to start jogging to the other end of the park and back when he turned to see....
Long brown hair. Petite cute bod. Perky butt. He knew this body and the person wasn't meant to be here as earlier when he called her she said she was getting ready for bed and now here she was having her lips eaten by some tall handsome dude in the park!!. People stared and some made videos too but they didn't seem to care at all.
Jason felt the button he threw in had backfired and had broken his love. His Vanya. The girl he pictured a lifetime with, being caressed by another man right in front of him.
"Vanya!" Jason managed to shriek.
Vanya withdrew her lips and turned to meet Jason's broken gaze. She gave off a nervous smile as she arranged her hair that had either been ruffled by the breeze or the kiss. She didn't even feign shame or fear Jason watched the guy come into view.
He was taller and more bulky than he was. And to crown it all had a handsome face.
"Who is he?" the guy asked staring straight at Jason with some twinkles of mischief in his eyes. Like he was looking down on Jason....
"No! Who are you?...Vanya who is he?" Jason fired back walking closer to them.
"Alex he's..." Vanya stalled staring at the both of them.
"I'm her boyfriend!" Jason affirmed holding on to the hope that this was all a misunderstanding that Vanya would clear soon. Or maybe she was playing a prank on him. He was logical enough to know it wasn't a prank cause she hadn't invited him here or dropped clues for him to be here, he'd just stumbled here by coincidence to work out. But he couldn't help hope.
"Huh??" Alex and Vanya said in unison.
"Vanya!" Jason said in disbelief. What did her huh mean, had she been stringing him along all these years. He'd always been good to her despite how busy he was he made time for them. Maybe she wanted a rich guy cause judging from the guys appearance he was rich. While he was just a struggling student who had a part time job and a daughter.
"Okay guys I can explain! " She said looking at the both of them.
"I'm listening" Alex said, his eyebrow snapped together as he watched the both of them.
Jason felt like leaving but he stood to hear what she had to say and the fact that Alex had refused to leave made him stand his ground.
"I'm dating both of you!" Vanya confessed and shut her eyes.
"Vanya!"
"I couldn't choose one okay. I like you both for various reasons that's why" She cried, bending her head and looking defeated.
"So I wasn't enough for you?" Jason asked.
"I'm sorry...you just weren't ....this is the 21st century we can make it work. People do stuff like this these days" she shared making the puppiest eye and holding both their hands.
"Well the parties involved talk about this shit and reach an agreement...they don't just stumble into it and make it work" Alex replied annoyed.
Vanya sobbed and Jason pulled her to him. Her tears melted his rage and he was willing to forgive her.
"Let's go Vanya...this can't work for us" Jason said wiping her tears and holding her waist. He turned her away from Alex.
Alex held on to her shoulder and she swiftly turned.
"We'll talk about this some other time" He assured her, his eyes darting between them two.
"Okay..." she smiled and wiped the tears from her face.
Jason stared at both of them in utter disbelief. She was now in his arms again and his head was spinning wild unable to understand what he was actually feeling. He loved her but sharing was something he couldn't do. He'd have to break it off with her.
He hailed a taxi for for her and one came rolling by. He held open the door for her but she looked at him rather than getting in. She looked so fragile with those teary eyes of hers.
"Jason....are you mad at me?" She asked.
"Nah..it's nothing" He replied avoiding eye contact with her and pretending to find cars driving by interesting.
"I'm sorry you had to find out this way but I wanted to tell you for so long I just couldn't find time" she held his hand.
"Good night Vee" He finally looked at her and helped her getting in.
"Can we meet tomorrow for coffee and cake " She asked but he blocked out her request by shutting the door and walking away.
He heard the car drive away then he turned and stood right at the spot. He had so not imagined this scenario mess when he stepped out of the dorm earlier on. He'd been pumped up to do some exercise as the supermarket he worked had closed earlier and had shared a box of pizza with his friend Hillary. He'd over eaten so he decided to work out to let the food digest only discover the side of his girlfriend he never imagined.....
