Tap Tap Tap

The little girl sat down in the middle of a completely white room, eyes closed with her legs hugged against her chest. She wore a white dress that complimented her black hair as she seemingly slept in the quiet room.

A tapping noise sounded out, waking the little girl up from her quiet slumber. As she tilted her head upwards, looking at the approaching figure with her black eyes, she saw a beautiful red gold dress that hugged the body approach her, noisy high heels clacking against the white floor.

The red haired woman stopped directly in front of her, carefully squatting down to meet the little girl's eyes. The little girl stared into the woman's ones, admiring her pretty red orbs that matched her dress.

"Hello." The woman in red says. She had a small smile on, displaying an unusual amount of friendliness that the little girl was not familiar with. Her eyes were too direct for the little girl, who shifted uncomfortably under that gaze.

However, the little girl couldn't help but stare at the woman, entranced by her eyes. They were much more beautiful then her own black, unattractive ones.

"Who are you?" Finally replying, the little girl waited quietly for the woman's answer.

"Who am I? I am the person you think I am." The woman smiled, loose hair slipping down to cover a part of her face as she tilted her head playfully. Out of the corner of the little girl's eye, she saw a scythe in the shadow of the woman, its sharp tip pointed at the little girl's neck.

"Oh." The little girl pauses, before wearily smiling. She looked down at her hands, staring at them. They looked scarred upon closer inspection, as though they have been through a lot more than other people.

She had done all she could in her world and now it was time for her to go. There wasn't any reason to stick around any longer then she had already.

Standing up, she stretched, taking her time to neaten her appearance up before holding her hand out to the still squatting woman. "In that case, let's go." She says, her voice firm and unrelenting.

The woman smiled, taking the hand that was offered and stood up. Using her free hand, she tucked a strand of loose hair behind the little girl's ear, whispering out some words.

"I'm glad that you are a sensible child." She purrs out. As she finishes this sentence, a black path appears in front of the little girl, spider lilies dotting the sides. If the little girl squinted, she could vaguely make out a gate at the end of the road.

Resolve clouded the little girl's vision as she was gently pulled down the black path by the woman. Step by step, she approached the gate, till it was directly in front of her, looming over her head ominously.

"Well, this is where we part ways. Child, I'll see you on the other side." The woman in red disappeared, leaving that sentence behind. The little girl watched as she did, before turning to look at the gate again.

She stretched a hand out, letting it pass through the gate. Ripples swirled out from where her hand was, rippling throughout the massive gate. Inside the gate, she could feel a hot heat brush against her hand, telling her about the things that she might have to go through after passing through the gate.

A stifling voice suddenly echoed out from the gate, speaking directly to her.

"Do you regret it?" As that sentence was said, the gate expelled her hand and turned into a water mirror, showing a reflection of herself in it. Then, as she watched, the gate replayed her entire life. From child to a teenager to an adult.

The first birthday celebration she had with her friends.

Laughing happily as she was hit by a water bomb.

Tasting cookie dough and getting sick.

The little girl pursed her lips as the memories played, slowly going to darker ones.

The loss of everything she loved.

Getting revenge.

Her first kill.

As these different versions of herself in different scenarios passed her by, the voice spoke again.

"Was it worth it? Getting revenge?"

The reflections disappeared, leaving the little girl at her adult self.

Was it worth it? She got what she wanted in the end, but she was never able to go back. She wasn't able to live happily like everyone wished she would and instead spent all her life constantly trying to get revenge. And when she finally did, she killed herself, unable to live with the guilt of living.

She had a lot of time to think while in the white room, think over all her decisions. Would they want this for her? Want this revenge that costed her whole life? She thought about everything clearly curled up on the floor, so she already had the answer to this question.

"I don't. I don't regret anything at all." She announced, staring determinedly at her adult reflection who was wearing the same type of dress she was. She firmly placed her hand back on the mirror, making it ripple again. Her reflection copied her, placing her hand on the mirror as well.

The gate seemed to laugh at her response as the mirror rippled more and more, distorting her reflection. The next moment it settled, it showed the child version of her.

Her hands were bigger now as she stared at them, still scarred with everything that had happened. The adult version of the little girl turned around, leaving her child self back at the gate.

It was peacefully warm behind the gate, completely different from whatever hellscape that she thought was coming for her. Here, green grass grew freely everywhere, dotted with colourful flowers that released their slight sweet scent.

She hadn't seen such a beautiful scene in a long time, prompting her to look more, to absorb more of it.

It blurred in her vision as hot tears flowed out of her eyes, dripping down onto the ground and staining the grass at her feet.

Sinking down to her knees, she laughed with all her heart, covering her eyes with her scarred hands.

"Hey, are you okay?" A familiar voice entered her ears. She looked up, shocked.

A familiar smile was plastered on a familiar face, only much older then before. She watched as his face turned from concern to surprise, matching hers as well.

"You!" He said as he strode forwards, pulling her into a tight hug.

Tears streamed down her eyes in a greater intensity in this warm embrace. She hugged back, hands scrambling to hold him back.

The heavy weight that rested on her shoulders suddenly disappeared, making everything seem brighter and more colourful. Relief flooded her chest and she relaxed.

After a long hike through life, she finally made it back home.

I was told that I tend to write very complicatedly, which shocked me.

I didn't realise that some people didn't know the word impassively.

So, I've tried my best to simplify my writing, lest someone complain about my complicatedness again.

On a side note, this is actually story 5 in my short stories. But the 3 that I skipped are honestly really short and horrible, so I'm not even going to try and fix it.

This one was actually only 400 words long, so it's heavily edited, like usual. I'm pretty proud of it though. You can thank the song I'm listening to for the happy ending.
