Chapter 7: Possibilities

I laid there a second before asking another question. "So Valor is a wolf, is Leah?" Oliver shook his head. "No she decided to stay a human and be with Zane. But Valor said the change made everything better for her. She'd probably be the best person to talk with. I can only provide what she told me and on the abilities you will get." He shifted to lay on his side. "What are the abilities?" I said as I started to shake. "Better hearing, better sight, strength, healing quicker, better reflexes. Mind links, and according to Valor sparks when you touch your mate. I feel them, but you won't unless you make the change."

I nodded and thought another minute. "What are the downsides? He shrugged and touched my cheek. "The worst would be for you to die, but if you made it then control. My wolf came out when I was going and why I pulled away. I didn't want to scare you. This is all more then I planned on telling you at this point in our relationship."

"Where you ever going to tell me?" He nodded and rubbed my arm. "Yes, but not until you knew me better. Knew I wouldn't hurt you in anyway." I nodded being play with that answer. "Are you going to run away now that you know?" Oliver asked and I slid into his chest. "No sorry was just thinking." He kissed my head. "I think I need to just be held." I whispered as he pulled me closer and fell asleep with me in his arms. I watched his chest rise and fall. Memorized his face at peace thinking he could definitely make me happy.

Did I want to change though, would I even survive. I needed to talk to Paco tomorrow, but for now I would relax. I rubbed my hand on Oliver's scruffy cheek and he mhmmed turning into my neck. I kissed his head as he wrapped around me and I fell asleep.

The alarm went off and Oliver groaned. I pulled away to shut it off and Oliver pulled me back. "Five more minutes." I laughed and kissed his cheek. "I wish Oliver." I whispered before kissing him on the mouth. "I'll be back tonight after work my handsome wolf." He smiled and kissed me. "I'll be here beautiful perfection." I shook my head as I ran to get dressed and ran to the fore house.

As soon as I entered the Chief called my name. "Gemma Carter my office now!" The men snickered as I walked to his office. I knocked twice before he yelled come in. I opened the door to see him smiling. "You called for me sir?" He waved me in. "There's a promotion coming up for you. Get the paperwork in and pass the test, in six months you could be back home." I smiled and then it fell. "Sir?" Chief Landon sat foward. "Speak freely Captain Carter."

I almost lost my nerve, but I didn't shy away before and I wouldn't now. "I'd like a promotion sir, and I am very thankful you thought of me... Just I'd like to stay stationed here at Sausalito Station number Twenty-two." He slid me a paper and I read it. "You want me to take over?" He nodded and smiled. "I knew from day one you would be the best and by far you have gone above and beyond your duties even with just working days." I glanced at the hours fora chief and wondered how Oliver would feel about me being on call.

"Can I be a lieutenant here and then be Captain if you think that is if I still deserve it by then." I watched the Captain as he looked through my file. "I'll see what can be done." He winked and I flew around the desk to hug him. "Sorry sir." I pulled myself away, but the smile stuck.

He laughed and looked below that. "No vacation ever taken?" I nodded and he looked up. "If you can get a schedule for the next six months up by Friday and any other claims that come up. I'll give you two weeks off Carter. Think you can do it?" I nodded and hurried out the door. "Good kid." Inhesrd him say as the door closed. I ran to my desk and started right away.

By seven I was exhausted and ran to shower. By seven thirty I was knocking on Paco's door. The door flew open and he wore a purple kimono. "Gemma dear come in." I walked in and he had tea poured for two. "How did you know?" He smiled and patted the counter. "Come, sit, ask your question." I walked over to the empty seat across from him. "Why do I get the feeling you know my question?" He gave me a smirk and played with his mustache curling it at the ends. "Ask it's part of the package." He said as he drank the tea.

"Okay if I do that thing with Oliver and you know, change. Will I live?" He set the cup down and he pointed to my cup. It was the same cup I had before. "Empress days yes so it would seem you have fallen in love thank the gods above." I nodded and drank the tea. "So what I'm gathering is you have to love someone more then yourself to survive." He booped my nose and slidnofnthe chair dancing around in a circle.

"Paco why are you not a rich ass man sitting somewhere..." I was going to say beach. "I am on a beach and who says I'm not rich? I may not have money but inhave other gifts." I smiled knowing he always spoke in truths. "Thank you dear friend this has been quite a ball, but I think very soon I might make another call." He smiled and hugged me. "Isn't it fun to talk in rhymes, makes people question but they come around in time." I laughed and squeezed him again before running towards Oliver's. I had so much to tell and ask him.

I ran to his door, but the house was dark. I knocked and he didn't answer so I walked back to my car and drove to Joe's. I walked to the bar to see Valor running around. "Have you seen Oliver?" I yelled over the music. "Ollie? No usually he is up in his theater or down by the beach." I shook my head and started my drive back checking between houses. I made a u-turn and drove to the cliffs. I pulled up and stopped when the sand turned to stone. "Oliver!" I saw movement and that's when I saw him sitting there under the moon by a rock.

"Gosh you scared me. How come you didn't wait for me?" I walked towards him slowley and sat down. He looked out over the ocean and I made the mistake of looking down. "Oh gosh, um. So I'm afraid of heights and no that's not a joke." His hand found mine and he squeezed it. "Oliver?" I squeezed his hand and he finally looked at me. "Why are you out here?"

He whispered lightly and I could barely here him. "I thought you weren't coming." It made my heart break. "I promised though." He nodded and stood up. He pretended to fall and I snatched his collar. Oliver started busting out laughing. "That is not funny!" I yelled and stomped to my car. "Aww come on Gem. I was just trying to lighten the mood." I got in my car as he sped up and grabbed the door handle. "Okay you didn't think it was funny." I shook my head as he opened the door and leaned in to kiss me.

"Will you take us home?" He asked as he played with my wet curls. I nodded and I let him climb in the car. "I'm sorry I was just feeling horrible, so I went for a run." I nodded and I turned onto his street. "I need to talk to you about a few things when we get home?" He smiled and grabbed my hand. "You called it home." I smiled and blushed a bit.
