Chapter 11- The Date (I)
JOSHUA'S POV
"Common man, where's your mind at?"
I heard Xavier's voice from far away as he snapped his fingers right in front of my face. We were in the board room of our company, having an important meeting with some potential investors but my mind has been wandering all around a particular face that has etched itself directly in my heart.
"I'm sorry man..what were you saying? I replied, looking into the files before me.
"Mr Davis, are you sure we can go on with this meeting today? We can always fix any other time that would be convinient for you" one of the investors asks with concern.
'No..no..no Sir...it's alright . I apologize for my lack of concentration please"
"Alright then. Let's get it moving " said Xavier with smiles.
The meeting continued for another 2 hours after which we wrapped everything up and the investors took their leave.
"What's going on with you man? You've been constantly getting lost in your own world these days...are you okay?" Xavier asked, his voice filled with concern as ww both walk back to my office.
"Yeaaa...yeaà....I..I'm good Xav...just trying to wrap my head around somethings"
"Are you sure?... Girl problem?"
"Nah ....." I replied dismissing his guess.
"Josh..we've been friends for 18 years and I can proudly say I know you in and out...I know you are struggling with something so just spill it ."Xavier said stubbornly as we entered my office,he took a seat on a single couch while I sits tiredly opposite him.
"Start talking Josh...I've not got all day to sit around idle"
"It's Elizabeth...I..I can't seem to get her out of my head Xav....it's crazy how she makes me feel".
"Elizabeth? The crackhead you had issues with at the exhibition some months back? " Xavier asked in confusion
"Yes .that crack head ..she's the CEO of Orbit incorporations"
"Oh my God!!! " Xavier exclaimed in surprise. "Are you for real?? Orbit incorporations? That contacted us for the design job?
"Yes Xav..that one...I bumped into her on my way out of the company premises that day and she was still so cold "
"Wow...this is unbelievable"
"I...I don't know...something keeps drawing me to her and I..I can't seem to get rid of her in my head"
"Man..you are whipped already!!! " Xavier said..laughing uncontrollably.
"Common Xav...be serios...we are not even in a relationship..."
" Yeaaa but you are already in love with her man..can't you see that? "
"Nah.. I'm not in love with her..I think I'm just curious to know more about her"
"Hhmmm...if that makes it easy for you to deal with..' laughed Xavier in mockery.
"You are annoying Xavier"
"So...lemme think...how about we set up a double date..."
"Double date? How?"
"I can call Alisha and call in a favour..we can have a sort of double date with them"
"Hhmm..sounds interesting but that cold woman doesn't seem like one to go on a date to me"
"Let's try first....this is my buddy's first love and I've got to help.." Xavier said with excited laughter as he retrieves his phone from his pocket.
"Stop it Xavier.."
"I'm calling Alisha right away".
He dials Alisha's number on his phone as he exits Joshua's office.
I couldn't help but imagine being on a date with her as soon as Xavier exits the room. What being on a date with her would look like, getting to know her and probably become friends.
"First I need to know the kind of woman she really is.. Google is my friend for that " I muttered to myself as I walked to my desk, switch on my laptop and typed her name on Google.
Was I surprised with her profile? Yes I was terrified. She's portrayed as a ruthless business minded lady who gives no shit nor baits an eyelid at tackling whatever obstacles may be in her way.
She fires her employees for even the tiniest mistakes and plays hard within her business industry,even older business men fears her guys and are always at her neck and call.
She has no relationship except for her immediate family and childhood friend, Alisha. She hardly attends social gatherings and detests personal familiarities.
"Wow..what a profile!' I said to my self, intrigued at all I just read.
Just then,Xavier bursts into my office again.
"I got us a deal with Alisha Josh...but it's gonna be a coincidental sort of date...she told me they will be having dinner at a French restaurant by 7pm tonight. We just walk in and voila..." He explains in excitement.
"Eerrmmm...Xavier...I don't think Elizabeth is someone I want to get close to anymore" I said with uncertainty.
"What?? Wh...why??.."
"Check this..' I said..turning my laptop to his view. Quickly he went through the posts.
"Oh wow... Such a cold hearted ruthless business woman..no wonder they nicknamed her The Ice queen" Xavier said..looking up at me.
"What do you think?"
"B. But man..I already promised Alisha we will be there..we can't back out now..."
"Alright...we are going..but just tonight...I'm not seeing her again after this.."
"Cool...fair enough... But wait ..what if you eventually like her enough to want to see her again?"
"I doubt that possibility Xav...she's a whole lot for me to handle."
"Okay...we'll see then" he said with a smirk..looking at me
"What do you mean we'll see" I asked in confusion
"Nothing man...I've got to tidy up my desks..we have a date by 7..! " He said playfully as he walks out of my office,smilling mischievously at me.
"This boy will be the death of me" I muttered to myself as I tidy up my desk. It's just 4:30pm, we still have time before the "date".
