Chapter 21

-[Liam]-

He didn't know what was going through Reiner's head at the moment but it didn't really matter. The armored titan was good for defense but the female titan's hardening ability along with Annie's martial arts prowess pretty much countered it.

This was proven as the armored titan threw a punch which was dodged by the female titan who grabbed the arm, getting close to its opponent and sweeping its feet with a low kick.

*BOOM!*

The impact of the armored titan slamming into the floor wasn't to be underestimated.

"If she can keep this up, will we even need the launchers?" Hange asked as she rode beside him.

"We can never be too sure. The situation can change at any moment." Levi answered from his other side.

The cadets still couldn't believe their eyes. The person who they all trusted turned out to be responsible for the nightmare they were living in.

'What a twist.' Liam thought in amusement as Annie, using her hardened fist, delivered a powerful punch to Reiner's face.

Despite Reiner's attempt to fight back, the beat down didn't stop. Annie was the superior fighter so even with his armor, he stood no chance.

As the survey corps continued to ride away, another group with two supply carts were coming in the direction.

"So they finally made it here." Levi muttered, looking at Erwin who was leading the incoming group. "Nanaba, take charge and follow the plan!"

Just as the group reached them, Levi, Hange and Liam suddenly turned their steeds around, joining them to head back to the fight.

"Are they crazy?!" He heard Jean scream.

They went at full speed until the titan fight was within their sight. At this time, Reiner's titan was missing a lot of its armored plates while the rest of it looked terribly cracked.

"She's winning. All we have to do now is make sure it stays that way." Hange said as the squad stopped.

A few of them, Hange included, climbed onto the cart, taking out the items that it was carrying. The soldiers wasted no time in equipping themselves with the launchers.

They had selected those who were adept at using firearms to make up for the lack of experience in using it.

"Get into positions!" Erwin ordered as the soldiers spread out into a wide line, all facing the fight. There were buildings or tall structures around so they had to stay at ground level.

"ROOOOOAAARRRRR!" Reiner seemed to have noticed them as he turned to run in their direction.

The consequences of his decision came quickly as the female titan threw a kick with its hardened leg, amputating the limb from the weakened joint.

"Now!" As the armored titan struggled to stay standing, the firing squad had already taken aim and let loose their first shot.

Annie, who had already been briefed beforehand, distanced herself a bit as the rocket propelled grenades collided with the armored titan's torso.

*BOOM!* *BOOM!* *BOOM!* *BOOM!* *BOOM!* *BOOM!*

The effectiveness was shown as multiple explosions occurred upon impact. There was silence as the armored titan fell face flat to the ground.

They were all given orders to be careful about the nape else they risked killing him. As much as that would satisfy them, they needed to transfer his titan to someone else.

"Did that do it?" Levi muttered as Annie quickly moved back into the fray.

She wasted no time as she grabbed onto the armored titan's head, pulling with all of her titan's strength until it separated.

The damage from their fight and the launchers had already overwhelmed the armor beyond its ability to defend. As deftly as she had performed so far, she ripped open its nape, tearing Reiner out of it.

"Liam!" Erwin ordered, signaling for the boy to play his role. Liam had already begun riding towards them, a corked vial in his hand.

For added measure, Annie ripped out Reiner's arms and legs, ignoring his scream. She lowered him to ground level as soon as Liam got there, the other boy holding Reiner's mouth open and pouring the contents of the vial down his throat.

It didn't take more than a few seconds for Reiner's already exhausted form to slip into unconsciousness.

A quick use of [Observe] showed Reiner's stamina at 1% and not budging from there. His health was at 29% and also not budging. With that done, he pulled out a signal flare, loading it and shooting it upward.

The trail of green smoke was followed by cheers from the soldiers afar. It was to signify the success of the operation.

He couldn't help the smile that rose to his lips as he looked at his rewards.

There was a release of steam from the female titan as Annie pulled herself out of it. "I guess we won." She said as apathetically as usual.

"Yes we did. As a reward for your excellent performance, we'll pay your father another visit." He said as the soldiers came in their direction.

Her eyes widened, a change from her usual expression before she hid it. "Thank you."

A good job deserved a reward and she had performed excellently. Subordinates are loyal when they are rewarded for their victories.

The best part was that with the distance scaling of [Apparition], he was sure he could get there in one jump.

-[Later]-

Despite his lack of limbs, they had bound Reiner as they made their way to the other base south of Wall Sina.

The ride there was cheerful and exciting. It was expected. After all, they had just captured both the armored and colossal titan, all without losing a single soldier.

Their only loss was their headquarters but that was a more than acceptable loss if it meant victory. Each soldier was equipped with two potions that would induce immense fatigue upon ingestion.

In the event that Reiner so much as twitched, they were to administer a dose. The same treatment was given to Bertholdt who was being held in an underground cell.

At the moment, Liam stood alone at the top of the new base. He pulled up his status screen to view his gains.
