Second Mental Demon Tribulation

As soon as the wisp of his soul was cleaned of the second hindrance, all of the black liquid condensed into a black sphere just as it did the last time.

However this time the difference was that instead of it birthing a clone of himself made out of black liquid, this time the sphere broke into a thousand pieces.

And from the sphere a strange black gas was created that quickly went on to exit his soul, and then once it was whitin the soul space it streached out to cover his entire soul before Wang Wei could even react.

Once it fully covered his soul, he could feel that the connection between his body and his soul was severed, he couldn't feel his body and it felt just like when he left his body previously.

Before he had any time to ponder what that meant, he could feel that from whitin a multitude of voices started to appear.

They were completely unintelligible however a peculiar phenomenon happened when he heard them.

Unbelievable anger started clouding his mind, which while challenging wasn't that hard to handle with his trained emotional control.

However while he was busy trying to reign in his anger, he almost didn't notice that the remaining black liquid was starting to get restless.

It was as if it was a coordinated attack against him and considering that Wang Wei knew that the hindrances had some form of sentience, that possibility wasn't that farfetched.

As a result of the black liquid becoming restless he was assaulted by unbelievable amounts of pain.

Regardless Wang Wei didn't have any time to think about such things as he was already struggling to withstand both the anger invading his consciousness and the remaining hindrances wreaking havoc in his soul.

Wang Wei was barely able to hold on and the excruciating pain made him almost give up completely.

However just as he was about to give up and given into the pain he decided to give a last ditch effort, a hail mary if you will.

His idea was to use the already cleansed parts of his soul to subdue the rioting hindrances.

When he tried that he noticed that because the black liquid was actively attacking the wisps of his soul, it was much much easier and faster to cleanse them.

Once he saw that he knew that even though this tribulation was a great danger it could also help speed up his progress tremendously.

Therefore Wang Wei immediately started cleansing the third hindrance.

And even though he was suffering immensely he actully managed to cleanse 80% of the third hindrance at record speed before something unexpected happened.

What happened was that the black liquid actually stopped attacking his soul as it must have realised what Wang Wei was doing and once again went dormant.

However the black fog's whispering didn't subsist and he still had to carefully control emotions in order not to succumb to the anger.

But that kind of control came quite easily to Wang Wei because of his emotional training and therefore the rest of the tribulation passed by quickly.

After it ended Wang Wei didn't end his secluded meditation, in fact, he went on to contemplate why this tribulation was so different from the last one.

The conclusion he came to after careful deliberation was that each tribulation will carry the characteristics of the hindrance he was cleansing.

So in this case since he was cleansing the second hindrance also known as the hindrance of ill will, its characteristic was anger.

And so that means that each mental tribulation is unique and he will have to carefully prepare himself to face each one's unique characteristics.

Once he understood and assimilated this knowledge he opened his eyes and started to experiment on his new powers.

His spirit sense fully extended, and Wang Wei was shocked to see its full size. It covered the entire mountain of the Sect and even the surrounding mountains.

When he calculated how large it was he realised that its radius was 100 kilometers almost 10 times what it was in the past.

It still couldn't compare to a Nascent-Soul expert's but it was still much higher than the spirit sense in the Golden-Core realm.

However what he was most excited about was the improvement in his control over Qi and he was very excited to find out how much it improved.

He tried communicating with the Qi and he found doing so easier than ever, it was so easy that he felt that it was a puppy wagging its tail and vying for his attention.

And then he tried transforming it into the Water Attribute and he found out that even though he still needed to expend soul strength to so, it required a third the amount it did before.

So if before he could only create a small pond from Water Attribute Qi now with spending the same amount of soul strenght he could create a lake!

It was a truly marvelous feeling controlling the forces of nature to one's whims.

He estimated that if he fully expended all of his soul strenght used it to create Wood Attribute Qi, he would be able to actually create a small forest out of thin air.

Even though afterwards he would have to spend an entire day resting and recovering from it.

Nonetheless he finished exploring his powers and he started exploring the changes that the cleansing created in his emotions.
