Joanna stood outside her house trying to figure out how she can make her way inside without making any noise. She took her war bonnet off her head revealing Cleo who buried herself in Joanna's hair looking around closely.
"Remember the plan Cleo when I got inside I'm going to need you to be on the lookout for the witches. They're still in their human form most likely."Joanna looked at her surroundings seeing nothing but darkness cover her vision.
"Joanna There's only two witches, the third one is dead. Your father killed her but ended up dying form injuries to protect you. She must be buried in the forest or better yet in ashes."
Joanna smiles "good that's one less person we have to deal with."
Joanna grabs the doorknob and opens the door slowly not wanting to create too much noise as the door creaks open; it could alert the witches and she didn't want that. She tiptoed silently going up the stairs as her bird Cleo was all the way up the stairs well keeping a close eye on the doors which the witches slept.
Holding the spear tightly feeling a sense of fear pierce her heart was something she didn't want to feel. Joanna wanted to be strong but her nerves was starting to catch up to her, as she reaches the top of the stairs as she heard the door open swiftly. Joanna looked back and forth for a safe spot to hide, Cleo flew somewhere in the darkness as Joanna followed her in a dark room.
Joanna tried adjusting her eyes to the darkroom. "It's been a whole day and I can't figure out what room this is, this must be the room my father told me not to go into."
Cleo chipped as she flies her way towards the curtain pulling with all her might. Joanna walks towards the curtain gently pulling the fabric to the side tying it in a knot. There was some light in the room which made it much easier for her to see in the mysterious room. Suddenly her spear began to glow as Cleo made her way towards Joanna's shoulder to sit having her beak open in amazement.
"Ms. Joanna! The spear it's calling out to you. It's accepting you as its master, your power is flowing into the spear. Even your eyes are starting to become yellow! We have to hurry they'll wake up eventually. I'll change into my human form and stand near the door. "
Joanna's eyes went wide "you can change into a human too, you must be an animal spirit. Never mind that I'll start looking."
Cleo leaps off Joanna's shoulder as she turned into her human form of a small toddler. Dark brown hair and tan skin that sparkled in the moonlight eyes had become pure gold. Joanna looked in awe as she continued to find the money and her father's belongings before the witches found out she was in the home.
Looking through everything drawer she caught the sight of the money that was in a secure pouch along with her father's letters. Just as Joanna was handing Cleo the things needed they heard a loud bang against the door. Joanna held Cleo close to her as she holds her spear up in front of them.
Debbie walked in the room from the darkness that was surrounded by Joanna and Cleo "I didn't think you would come back after everything that has happened. Did you really think we weren't going to notice you and that thing inside the house? It seems like you found the room your father worked so hard to cover up from us."
Joanna slowly backs away from Debbie getting closer to the window for Cleo to escape" Sorry but I have to leave, you killing my father was the worst mistake you have ever made. Even though you are a witch he was willing to give up everything for you and your daughters. Now that I remember it one of them couldn't live to see the light of day because I hit her so hard on the head she died from her injuries sad isn't it."
Debbie laughed as Jillian walks in the room with a wand in her hand "You'll pay for killing my sister Eve! Die you savage!" Jillian screamed at the top of her lungs as she whispered something for her wand to be glowing brightly. Joanna opened the window quickly jumping out of it with Cleo in her arms.
Cleo seemed shocked and amazed that Joanna had enough time to escape but the trouble was yet to be over. Joanna started to run holding Cleo in her arms as her protective instincts kicked in on her; on the other hand, Cleo looked over Joanna's shoulder seeing nothing there until she got a closer look at seeing the witches on brooms chasing them. Joanna had to hide Cleo somewhere and the thought of her changing back to her true form would be deadly but she knew that Cleo would be able to protect her things while she fought off the witches.
Cleo looked up at Joanna with a hesitant look as Joanna stayed focus on running "Excuse me, Joanna, I don't know where we are going? Are we going back to the woods?"
"If we go in the woods our tribe will be in danger. I'll have no choice but to put you with my good friend Cory. Cleo, please understand I'm just trying to protect you."
Before Cleo was able to say anything she was somehow transported into a small room. Cory had jumped up at the little girl that appeared in his kitchen.Cleo jumped up walking towards Cory as he become frighten wondering what the little girl was doing. "Hello my name is Cleo you are a friend of my master."
Cory titled his head in confusion "what master are you talking about umm Cleo?"
Cleo smiled widley"Master Joanna " Cory became dumbfounded as he lets the girl sit down on the kitchen chair wondering what to say next. He knew she was apart of a tribe but he didn't know that she could possess powers."Well Cleo me and Joanna is going to be taking a special trip to Edessia. We're attending ball which I was invited to, doesn't that sound exciting."
Cleo shrugged her shoulders showing displeasure in the idea of going to kingdom that particular kingdom at that. She knew Lord Alonso was going to do more than make it a simply delivery but paying off the chiefs debt, from what Cleo knew the chief owe the lord Alonso for his hospitality of making a special spear for him. He did say that would want something in return one day when something was of age but she just couldn't figure out what he wanted exactly.
Just as Cory was about to say something he heard the door opening to find Joanna emotionless covered in a black substance that made him and Cleo pinch their noses due to the smell and how strong it was. It smelled like a mixture between rotting wood and decaying flesh that was seeping off her body. He walked up her as she began to stumble dropping her spear completely loosing balance letting Cory catch her in the processes.
