Chapter 46: Guilt

"Did Elena deserve what she got when she was trying to protect you."

This statement kept ringing in Jeremy's head. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't stop thinking about her. Elena. He was slowly losing himself again. Just like when she had died. He could feel it. He couldn't focus at work and he was constantly losing his temper. It had been a three day's since Drake Lockman call but Jeremy could recall every single thing he had said in clear details. He could still hear his annoying voice in his head.

He knew he would handle Drake Lockman no matter what. He just needed to be patient and find him. He wasn't going to let his threats get to him.

But even with all this in mind Jeremy knew deep down what truly bothered him. It wasn't Drake Lockman and all his threats It was the guilt burning deep in his heart. A guilt had become part of him.

With so much on his head, alcohol became his best friend. Well alcohol and Tony who had been pestering him for the past few days. Pushing him to tell him what had been bothering him. No matter how hard he tried to shake him off he wouldn't just leave him alone. He was just thankful that Steve was still recovering or else it would have been worse.

Jeremy wasn't even done thinking about Tony when he elegantly walked in.

"You cancelled another meeting." Tony said the moment he walked in. He had a frown on his face and was rubbing his beard. He did that any time he was upset.

"Yes." Was all Jeremy had to say.

"What is going on with you. You know you can tell me right. Tell me what is making you cancel all the important meetings."

"I'm not in the mood for meetings." Jeremy replied.

Tony let out a dry laugh. "Not in the mood for meetings" Tony repeated.

"Jeremy what is going on with you. Your not one to talk like this. What's on your mind?" Tony asked with concern.

"Nothing. I'm fine." Jeremy replied as he poured himself a drink and took a sip.

"Look if your worried about that deranged idiot then you don't have to worry cause you'll find him and all this would blow over like it didn't happen."

"Sure."

"Okay, I'm sick of your short replies. I need to get you out of here. You need some fresh air and a time out. Steve is hosting a party and you definitely attending this one even if l have to drag you there myself." Tony said with a smile.

Jeremy laughed. "Like that's gonna work."

"Well l can always just hit you in the head with a baseball bat. Your choice. You know you need this. A chance to blow off some steam at one of Steve's crazy parties."

Jeremy thought for a while as he rubbed his head. Maybe Tony was right. He had to blow off some steam, distract himself a little and maybe this newly resurfaced guilt would go back to the bottom.

"Fine. Let's go." Jeremy said as he grabbed his jacket and left with Tony.
