«The Greek model chosen to represent the company.» - Edward continues after a couple of seconds of embarrassing silence, giving me a quick admonition glance, which leads me to shake my head and
reach out in front of the man, who starts looking at me puzzled again:
"It's a pleasure, I've heard a lot about you." - I say in front of a photographer that I'm watching for the first time in
my life, but his way of scrutinizing me makes my hands shake, making me understand that there is something wrong and
most likely he knows the real Greek model who should be in my place.
As he opens his lips wide and starts to speak, moving his eyes from my outstretched hand to my face, I feel my breathing become shorter than usual:
"Pleasure is mine." - he tries to make a half smile, reaching out to grab my hand,
while my pupils dilate in amazement.
I don't know if he has understood that I am lying and knows the woman who should now be in my place,
but it couldn't be otherwise: he would have no reason to help me since we don't even know each other.
"Well ..." -Edward takes the word again, so I take the opportunity to lower my head and bring
a lock of hair behind my ear for the embarrassment I feel in front of this man with funny and dyed hair
of a strange color between gray and purple:
"... Hannah, I'll leave you in good company."
His deep and understanding gaze, making me suddenly forget the mess in which I find myself, then
I try a smile when I notice that he looks at me almost worried, as if he has understood that there is something
that doesn't work.
I look away in discomfort after a couple of seconds, noticing James behind him focused on
the screen of his phone, with a grimace so serious that he seems to be worse off than me at this
moment.
I go back to watching Edward take one last look at the photographer in front of me, then take a step
back and raise a hand in greeting.
«Before you finish, go to my office.» - he tilts his head in my direction, making me miss a beat
when I carry out his invitation, at the exact moment when James jumps his head from his cell phone with a frown, between confused and angry, but I try not to give importance to his reaction and nod to Edward before he turns his back to me again and walks away, leaving me alone.
"Sure." - I say in a faint voice, still feeling three pairs of eyes on me, if not more, since
on the other side of the gym lots of people are muttering and something tells me that I am the subject of theirs
conversations.
I follow Gordon's son with my eyes until he turns his back and disappears behind the door, followed
shortly after by his bodyguard, but not before James gives me a strange look, for the first time not
full of hate, but almost disappointed with my answer.
I lower my eyebrows holding his gaze indefinitely, trying to understand what he wants
to tell me, but I give up as soon as he takes on his arrogant grimace again and walks behind his friend, leaving me alone with the photographer with the strange hair and shot in the forehead as if he were just woke up.
«Let's start from the photoshoot for the Cosmopolitan.» - I jump when I remember his presence as soon as he begins to speak in a cold tone, but I try to keep an expression as calm and serene
as possible, while he gestures to me to follow him with a nod: if I have been able to lie to Edward
looking into his eyes I will be able to break the ice even with this depressed human being.
But what is the Cosmopolitan?
