The Girl

Come on. Come on. Just a few more minutes. The teacher has been nagging about homework for the past hour. School is almost up for Thanksgiving break. I just wanna go out with the guys without the worry for school work. I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow. Waking up early for 5 days a week is just too much. I looked back at Vick. He looked like he'd fallen asleep from Mrs. Tracy's lecture. It always feels like time slows down during the final seconds of school. Her words begin to take longer to come out and pencils take longer to hit the desk.

"And remember to study your geometry. We will have a final test the day after the break." Just as Mrs. Tracy finished, the bell gave it's sweet sound of release. I grabbed my books and placed them in my bag. Vick came over to me as I throw my bag over my shoulders.

"Check it out." He pointed to the other end of the class at a group of girls, "Looks like Kristina is handing out invites to her party."

He followed me as I exited the room, "We barley know each other dude. There's no way she's gonna invite me. We don't even talk."

"Let me rephrase that for you." Vick started again, "You know everything about her, but she knows very little about you."

I rolled my eyes and nodded, "That still doesn't change the situation. If anything it makes it worse."

I walked through the crowded hallways. Vick went to go find Mike in his Biology class and will meet me at the school doors. I looked down as I continued to walk. "Alex!" Someone yelled behind me. I stopped and turned around. Kristina ran up to me. Her gorgeous dark brown hair moved softly with every step. Her tan cheeks glowed in the light of the sun through the windows.

I tried to snap out of it when she stopped about a foot away, "Kristina, I...a.....Hi." I wanted to smack myself for stuttering.

She smiled, "Hi, I don't know if you know, but I I'm having my birthday party during the break. If you don't have any plans, I was wondering if you would like you come." I tried to keep my screams in. The cutest girl I know just approached me and asked me to her party.

I tried to get something out, "Well I....uh.."

"Do you mind if we talk about this on the way to the school doors? I don't wanna be late." She interrupted.

I nodded, "Of course."

We walked out into the courtyard where the sun shined down on us. I continued to stare at her beautiful face and hair. "So, my party is at my parents apartment. They'll be gone during that time because they need to pick up my grandparents and drive them here all the way from Main. It's on the 25th on Wednesday if you can make it." She explained.

I was still trying to hold in my excitement, "Sure, I really don't have anything going on so I'll be there." She grinned at my answer.

We stopped at the doors and we turned to face each other. "Do you mind if I ask you something?" I said.

She nodded, "Of course."

I took in a deep breath, "Why would you invite me? We haven't even really talked."

Kristina thought for a moment, "Well, I don't really know. It just felt right to ask you to come. Plus, we'll get to know each other more during the party."

I smiled at her and she blushed a little, "Well get ready for one more friend in your life."

She laughed, "Hahahaha, ok I'll be prepared for that. Cya." She then walked out the doors and on to the streets of New York.

"You did not just talk to my sister like that." I turned around to see Mike laughing. Vick joined him and the three of us walked out of the school.

"Get ready for one more friend in your life? Seriously?" Vick acknowledged.

I sighed, "I'm such an idiot."

Mike laughed, "Don't worry buddy. You'll have plenty of time to flirt with my sister. Just don't be creepy."

Vick pat me on the back, "Congrats though. You got invited to the birthday party of the cutest girl in the school." I smiled to myself. I've been crushing on Kristina for about a year now and she just invited me to her own party. Do you know how many guys get invited to their crush's birthday? Probably 1 out of a million.

We got close to the 4 way split where I continue forward, Mike turns left, and Vick turns right. We stopped at the stop sign. "Hey did you get the Bio homework? I need some help on that." Mike asked.

I nodded, "Yea don't worry I'll be on Discord to help you."

He nods, "Appreciate that. And once we're done, anyone up for some Star Wars Battlefront?"

Vick chuckled, "Course I am."

"I'm in." I added.

"Yea those CLANKA's won't know what hit em. Ight I'll see you boys later." Mike finished. We all did our signature handshake and went our separate ways back to our homes.

I continued to walk the dirty streets. People were bustling about like the usual. People on the side of the road smoking. Taxi's and other cars honking at each other. People heading to and from work. I was used to all the noise. But there was another noise I didn't recognize. It was like a shrieking sound of a car alarm and nails on a chalkboard. The sound grew louder and louder. I looked around and nobody seemed to notice it. The shrieking got so loud I had to cover my ears, but nobody else did. Was I the only one who could hear this? The sound increased so much I started to stumble around. It grew and grew and grew like the amount of people in the city every month. I fell against a wall of a building and dropped to my knees. The shrieking reached it's peak and I screamed loudly at the feeling of my ears bursting. Then finally, it stopped. Some people were looking at me with questioning faces, but continued about their merry way. What the hell was that?
