Chapter 29: Must let it be, Unwillingly
'What could it be?' Something tugged at Jaegers mind as two figures in the distance made their way over a wall of the field, and ran towards the botany house after crossing the fields flat grass surface.
Jaeger quickly walked back towards the corner he was hidden in before only to find nothing arranged as he once had it. His bracelet twirled as his body whirled around the room, hiding in the same place again.
'What is this? Why is this?' No answer came to mind, even as the same figures approached and threw the door open before stepping inside.
The same words were spoken, and the same spot was taken up as moaning sounds rang out as the sound of rain never ceased to be.
'Do I let it happen? How will I know what truly happened unless I see it for myself?'
Many questions ran by his head, but without a doubt he had to repeat the events he had chosen to see the truth. Minutes later, the same figures danced by the window while crouching and silently entered the glass house under the sound of rain.
Bullets flew into their skulls starting with the person in the last position, and with a small frog in tow their bodies soon disappeared without a trace.
'I think…I love you' 'I think…I love you too'
Jaeger waited for them to leave, and stood up abruptly while his eyes stayed fixated on the door.
He closed his eyes and pulled the handle, only to feel rain at his back again before the door was even ajar.
"What happened…I've been looking at this from the standpoint of the old man and the village I arrived in…but this…this is different…these people are already gone or dead…there is no changing that…just changing what happens after…and who got away."
Jaeger solemnly walked towards the back of the glass house and arranged the pots again without rush. His brows were furrowed harder then he could ever do so. Still, he move around the pots and sat down as his cape slowly buckled out and bent to obscure his body.
"Come on…" A young male voice rushed in with joy in his voice.
*pat* *pat* *pat* *pat*
Jaeger had to stop himself from lighting up a cigarrete.
5 figures moved around the glass building, with each hunched step they took Jaeger felt his blood boil in anger. Hopeful that something else would occur, but their same actions played out as they entered the building and moved past the place each of their dead bodies would've ended up as Jaeger silently shot each of them in his mind.
*thud*
A dull sound rang out as a skull was cracked with a lead bar.
"Ahhh!" The girl below the teen who now slumped unconscious on top of her cried out as her eyes widened to the 5 teens surrounding the table they were under.
"I was wondering who kept sneaking around heh" A male who seemed the strongest of the bunch, as well as the one who struck the unknowing teen was the first to speak.
The other 4 cackled as if his words were the funniest thing in the world.
"So…what are you gonna do to repay us huh? Ill just kill your boyfriend here, you see debts have to be payed if you don't repay us…hell, if I kill him I might get so angry I might need you to calm me down anyway. I'll just kill him then I guess…" The teen let out an exaggerated sigh as he lifted the bar up.
"N-no…no! Please don't" The girl stammered out before clutching the teen on top of her in her arms.
"Oh? Alright boys, move the kid away" The 4 around him nodded, and pulled the teen away before the male lead of their group pushed her away from clutching his unconscious body.
"i…what…do you want me to do…" She looked away from him and covered up her body as best she could.
The male lead sighed before grabbing her by her hair and throwing her at one of the tables with an assortment of plants on top of it. Her body buckled as she coughed hard with the wind knocked out of her. The male lead grabbed her by her hair again and lifted her up, while he handed the bar in his other hand to one of the other teens.
He punched her until she was half dazed and bruised all over.
"What I want you to do is satisfy me, you're friend Kari just wasn't enough" He snickered as the girls eyes raised wide.
"You…you are the one who assaulted her! She has never been the same since! Fuck you!" The girl began to scream in anger and swat at him with renewed vigor.
The teens laughed as the male leader began giving her another round of punches until she was near unconscious. He threw her onto the table as plants and pots cascaded and fell before breaking on the floor. His hand slowly slid her legs apart before grabbing his pelt and unhinging it.
"No…" She murmured out as best she could.
He dropped his pants and spit into his hands, not hearing the soft *thud* sound behind him.
*thud* *thud* *thud*
"Hey don't beat the kid up too bad, don't want that kinda jacket and I'm too lazy to dig" The leader spoke while laughing. The kiss ass laughter he was so used to receiving in reply didn't fly by his ears, and he gave a strange look as the room seemed too silent.
"Huh?" He turned around only to meet his gaze with a lead bar flying horizontally into his face.
*Bash*
His nose broke inwards, leaving his face flat and irregular.
*Bash*
The sockets of his eyes sunk in and broke, as blood poured from his lacerated face. He toppled to the floor in a heap while clutching his face.
Neverending thudding sounds rang out, as the sound of skulls being crushed could be heard. The girl slowly opened her eyes and could see dazedly her boyfriend smashing the skulls inwards of the hoodlums layed around him at strange angles.
He slowly turned around and met her gaze, before his head swiveled to the guy crying and sobbing on the floor.
"Kill…him…please…" She muttered out.
He walked over and back the foot of the leader, cracking and breaking the ankle clean off before he repeated the process with the other foot.
"Ahhh!" He screamed before blacking out.
The boyfriend ran over to a bucket that was used to water the flowers and doused the leaders face with it. He woke up with a gasp, before his knees were broken inwards and his groin was hit so many times that the lower half of his body couldn't be felt anymore.
"Fuck you sick bastard!" An angry voice rang out from the hoarse voice of the boyfriend. Slick blood still leaked down from the wound on his head he had received from the leader.
"Sotp…pealese…" Jambled words rang out as the leader layed powerless on the ground.
"Would you have? Fuck you" With swing after swing the skull of the leader was dented in, until have his head was inverted inwards.
The bar dropped to the floor with a patter as the boyfriend finally ran over the girl and held her in his arms.
"Im so sorry…im so sorry…" He murmured out as tears fell from his eyes.
"Thank you…" She said as her voice was cut off by her throat beginning to ache. She poured out wails as her eyes let loose waterfalls of tears. The two stood there for a long time before pulling themselves back up to the scene around them.
Jaeger, the bystander to all of this looked on with a smile on his face 'Well…I'll be damned, I never had to do anything in the first place…fuck me.'
*shhhrt* Jaeger watched as they dragged the bodies out of the glass house one by one after the girl got up with a wobble. She kicked the leader in the groin until mush sounds rang out. The door silently closed as all evidence they could see in the dim light was swept away as their last act. Jaeger watched them go by the glass wall with intent, as they dragged the bodies to an unknown place behind the glass house.
'Hmm?'
He moved towards the door and opened its handle hesitantly, before letting out a sigh of relief as the rain stayed put following onto his chest. He stepped out and cast his gaze left and right before following the glass wall silently until he peaked around the corner. The leg of one of the dead teens was just pulled around the corner further down the way at that moment. Jaeger moved towards it, and even more slowly peered around its edge.
'A Well? Why didn't the old man say anything about that before?'
Jaeger could see a grass covered stone move off from the ground with great effort from the girl and her boyfriend. They dropped each body down the whole before with a clatter of clink sounds the lead bar fell down with them.
He perked his ears up trying to listen in to their conversation.
"Will it be okay? You know the story of this…well…we should bury them outside…" The girl muttered, while the male teen shook his head, "If we pull them through the front gate…we might be seen by the teachers…nobody even cares about these assholes…that's why they were kicked out of the school…nobody will find them…I know the story…they said they layed that spirit to rest before they built the school…"
"So there is a story before this school was even built…" Jaeger rubbed his chin as his eyes squinted.
'What part does this have to play…?'
"Come on…we have to go…" The boy rubbed her dripping wet hair and pushed the stone back into place, hidden like a puzzle piece of earth.
They slowly walked away, and vanished before Jaeger's very eyes into thin air like fading illusions.
"So it was a tale of the past…but why show me…"
*crrrt*
'Huh?'
The stone piece that was moved back and concealed by the grass on top and around it was slowly moving as if something was trying to force its way out.
It didn't seem to have the strength yet to move out from the earth.
'Fuck…'
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jaeger moved back and away from the glass house with a focused eye. He didn't know what was trying to make its way out, but regardless he wasn't going to sit around to find out.
*flick* *flick* The lighter he loved so dearly wouldn't start up in the rain, funny, for someone so used to smoking around the rain that he had forgot to cover up the lighter first. His mind was occupied elsewhere though so it couldn't be helped.
His processing brain was sidetracked momentarily as a light flickered up on the second level of the schools left wing.
Jaeger counted 3 windows down from the second story corners front side and stepped around corner itself as he made his way to the front entrance of the school. Several turns of a thin pick and an thin L shaped bar later, the front entrance was opened with a silent swing. Thankfully it didn't creak like every other door Jaeger had walked through or else the tension in his bones may have been that much higher.
What greeted his eyes was a simple hallway that panned left and right. At the 3/4ths mark in each direction was stairs that looked to go up into the levels above. With the light that was seen being on the left side, Jaeger made his way in that direction before slowly creeping up the stairs.
The stairs themselves met with the very center of the hallway going through the left wing. His gaze peered to the right, and noticed halfway down a wall was there.
To the right of the wall read 'Female Bathrooms', but no male bathrooms and so suddenly enlightened Jaeger realized that each wing was meant for one sex. If he went to the right wing he would surely find the bathrooms to all be for males. This might also be why the two lovebirds had met at the one hidden spot in the school compound, because it was easier then sneaking into each wing.
Another thing Andrew hadn't included was the fact that at the end of each wing were dorms for students.
'He must have not come here in a long time…that's why he must not have known about the botany house, and assumed it to be so for the students'
Eidetic memory was good, but the fact that Andrew had it, made Jaeger assume that he was told all of what was in the school compound and remembered it like a dictionary rather than have seen it with his own eyes. If anything was left out, as good as his memory was a lot would've not been known.
"Dorms…not many though…there must have been some students unlike the villagers who had to stay here without choice…"
1, 2, 3…3 doors down on the left side was the room Jaeger had seen the light from. On the right were several doors leading into classrooms, with some having large windows to peer inside. Through them Jaeger could see across to the right wings upper and lower levels.
Jaeger didn't take the time to peer down into the courtyard between the wings, as he didn't want to step into a classroom unnecessarily.
The third door happened to be ajar, and even though he felt like a perv Jaeger peered through the crack.
His eyes met the head and face of the girl who had been at the botany house before, she was talking back and forth with what seemed like her dorm mate.
"Becca…I know…okay I know it shouldn't have been there…" The girl muttered out softly.
The girl named Becca seemed much brighter in complexion compared to the one before her, she shook her head vigorously with her brows furrowed "I know what they did to me was wrong but…i…Serenity…"
So the girls name was Serenity, and her friend and dorm mate as well as the girl who was assaulted before was named Becca.
Serenity gave her a stern look, "They deserved it, from both me and you."
Becca nodded as a painful glint mixed with anger fell over her eyes, "Still…you may say I'm superstitious…but haven't you thought of the story before?"
Serenity shook her head, she had truly only heard tid bits of it in passing as most didn't want to talk about it. It truly was a superstitious world, but in the regards to knowing there were real ghosts and a real after life out their how could people help it? Culture was built around it.
Becca shook her head, "Long ago…far before the school was built and when times were even simpler there was another school here. Supposedly the lead teacher of the school was claimed to be a witch, as well as the other teachers when some of the students started having different views of the afterlife…that it wasn't a place to be feared or respected, but merely a state of existence. Just like science, the taboos were the speech of perspectives on the afterlife outside of the church which held greater power in those days…with a woman especially…saying that the afterlife was different then how the common folk saw it…well they put her in jail. Without the ability to speak on her own behalf, a rumor and claim went into a straight out direct persecution as people thought their children were in a cult…"
"What did they do to her?" Serenity asked with severe focus.
"They hung her with the rest of the staff…and dumped her body down the well…supposedly, she and the staff claimed the lives of those that persecuted them through the afterlife…after that…they blessed and released the sprits linked to the well, but supposedly the curse they made before death had stayed."
"That sounds like some old ghost tale…" Serenity said aloud meekly.
Becca shrugged, "Yeah it does sound pretty plain jane…but that's the history of that well supposedly…not only that, they had other deaths through the several eras after that that seemed too…linked…"
"Linked? Oh…a repeat of history…" Serenity flinched.
"Yeah…think about it, what's the best place to dump a body? Where nobody would ever WANT to look…but that's just my theory…I'm still glad those assholes had a miserable death, I wish I could've fucking been there! Gahh" Becca wanted to scream but calmed herself down before accidentally waking up the school.
"We…can only wait and see right? What's the worse that could happen?" Serenity said with a sigh.
Their images silently faded into a dark shadowy room, one without life and emotion that only seconds ago was there.
Jaeger sighed too, "Why do they always say that?"
Curses, can be far scarier that that in which you see in the dark of night. As it is an unseeable force, a strange law, intangible and undefeatable.
