Chapter 18

The next few months went by without much of a hassle for Jade when it came to the situation with Noel. From his actions that night when he had helped Jade home to the building they both lived in it had seemed the man had finally started to back off a bit when Jade came around him. It felt obvious to Jade that the man was simply scared or paranoid but either one worked for him because it kept the man at a distance. He was not in the position to look after other people's lives during his days when he was simply reaping them from other people.

It took a couple months of recuperating before Logan finally called to meet with Jade about further working for him. He knew the man would call eventually but had never expected him to take so long leaving Jade to hunt his own targets to calm down his urges to slaughter everything around him. When it came to killing it was becoming a part of who Jade was and it was not easy to just nullify the desire to kill once you've grown accustomed to the adrenaline he felt as he did it. If he ever desired a normal life it was something he wondered if it was even possible because he was sure it wasn't for someone like him.

Noel on the other hand was continuing his work days at the bar while every night going home to his apartment. It still bothered him the look in Jade's eyes from that night and he had to use everything he had to push his own occurring questions to the back of his mind.

TING TING

The familiar sounds of the bar door's bell rang the sound of incoming customers for Noel as he turned his head to check who was entering the bar. To his surprise the past few months the visits that Jade made to the bar had slimmed down in number and it almost felt lonely for some reason to Noel. He did not understand why he thought that way about the situation but something about the way the visits had dulled down gave his chest a tight feeling that made him uncomfortable. Even as he turned his head to find out who was entering the bar his gaze was met with unfamiliar faces each time. There were regular customers who came and went from the bar all the time but he could not comprehend why the specific one bothered him so much.

Days were starting to feel longer as time passed by for Noel at the bar. To clear his mind from useless thoughts he stepped outside the back of the bar for some fresh air. His back leaning against the cold wall of the building as he exhaled heavily.

"What are you doing out here in the cold, barkeep?" A cold and broken voice asked from the street as the man came to a halt where he stood.

"Ah! I was just catching some fresh air." A smile quickly found it's way to Noel's face as he quickly recognized the man as Jade. Although Noel was smiling for a second it quickly removed itself from his face as another man slowly came into view.

It was the man that Noel recognized from that day months ago when Jade had been wounded, Logan, who was standing beside Jade on the street. His well kept tan colored hair and well dressed clothing was something that Noel could not easily forget from that day. He was not sure who exactly the man was but he knew he was probably connected to the life that Jade lead during the night when he was hunting lives for a living.

"We'll be inside.. You should hurry in as well." The words almost sounded kind yet the tone was as dead as a doorknob. It had been a while since Noel had seen Jade come to the bar but there felt like there was no emotion in his voice. If there was a way to be completely hallow when you spoke it felt like Jade was an empty hallow shell as he spoke to him.

"Oh, Oh! Isn't he that boy from your building?" Logan's eyes seemed to light up slightly as if a thought had struck him as he wrapped his arm around Jade while sizing up Noel with his gaze so openly that it was obvious he was not trying to hide a thing about what he was doing.

"He's irrelevant." Jade's words were so cold that the night air seemed almost warm in comparison.

"It's not like I'm going to bite him.. I got my number one right here, don't I?" Logan smirked at Jade as a shadow cast over his face. It was obvious to Jade the hidden meaning behind his eyes but he knew that to Noel from the outside it probably was harder to decipher and he preferred to keep it that way. As they made their way inside the bar to drink together while Logan kept Jade firmly closely with his arm that night Noel felt a sharp pain in his chest that was tighter then before.

"You're going to make people misunderstand." Jade huffed out the words under his breath with a light yet heavy tone.

"Misunderstand, what? I could see the look in his eyes like some love struck pup." Logan scoffed at the image in his mind.

"He's harmless." Jade said after a moment of silence.

"Is that so?" Logan asked while pondering the look on Jade's face as they spoke silently to each other. He could clearly see something hidden in the words and eyes of the man he'd been using for months as he pleased to kill and plunder in the city. The fact was Logan knew all too well that he could easily dominate over Jade as he pleased because he knew the man better than anyone. If there was anything he hated most in his mind it was the idea of someone else touching something he felt belonged to him. When it came to items or even people they were both equal in his eyes and if something was to be touched he preferred to be the one touching and if something was to become broken he wanted to be the one who broke it.
