Chapter 4: A History

My lineage can be traced back to at least 13th century Europe. In my family it was a tradition to learn all there is to know about our history when you turn fifteen.

My family was proud of our history. In America we weren't so wealthy. We lost our money during the great depression and have been struggling to make a name for ourselves in this country.

We were wealthy as far back as our records go. We had also been accused of witchcraft in many different times in our history. Thats partly because of the powerful women in the family, and also partly because...well... we were witches.

We consisted if healers, doctors and scientists. Women who knew far more about the future than what anyone should. The men in the family were also powerful and extremely supportive of the women. Other powerful people who didn't want change knew we could bring it. Knew we held the power to bring political uprisings. These people tried to stop us.

We were targeted by many different religious groups throughout time, including some in our own. There were plenty of people close to us who wanted our power. Wanted to harness all our different abilities to use them for evil.

One man came close to harnessing our powers and using it to gain control of the world. He brought death and destruction. He wanted power and control. He gained followers and killed at least 6 million people because of his warped mind. He was insane. Some people in my family believed he couldn't handle to power that it drove him to insanity. My great grandmother was able to disguise herself as Eva Braun, using a glamor spell. She convinced him to kill himself and in the process unfortunately she gave her life to save the world and to save our Magick.

During the European witch trial of the 15th century, to which my family likes to refer as "the burning times", we were almost wiped from existence. My family spoke of a man, someone on the inside trying to save all the innocent people from being burned. No one ever knew his name. Even what he looked like was lost in history and was never able to be documented. This man saved my family.

I opened my eyes to see Ajs face full of worry. I blinked a few times and started to sit up.

"No, lay back, babe please." The shaking in her voice made my stomach clench. Her pain was my pain and I didn't want her to worry.

"I'm fine. I don't know what happened. I'm okay." I reached out for the glass of water she held in her hands. I was very thirsty.

"The man?" I sat up slowly, "where is he?"

"The man?" Aj questioned, then recognition shown on her face. "Oh he left. He said he's going to purchase your painting for a great amount. Enough for the family to pay the medical bills and have some left over to put in savings. He was a really nice guy. Hw apparently a doctor and gave you a once over. He said you'd be fine that you just need rest. He left me his card, he specifically wanted you to have it." she handed me the small business card.

It read, 'Gregory Douglas M.D

Who was this guy? Was this man really the face from my dream? What did he want from me? There were more questions I wanted to know but my head was swimming and I couldn't even think straight.

Aj drove me home and the entire drive I kept my eyes shut and listened to her talk about her day. Her voice was soothing to me. It calmed me when I wasn't feeling well. There were many nights I'd fall asleep just to the sound of it.

We got to our apartment and I was so tired I leaned on Aj in the elevator. We walked arm in arm to our apartment door and when we went in I went straight to bed. She tucked me in and I laid there for a moment thinking about what had happened.

Tomorrow I was going to call this man and figure out who he was and why he was so familiar to me.
