21 A chance

M2 maniacally charges towards Herro. M2 was so furious that he ignored the fact that his vision was lost and just continued to charge at Herro. M2 was driven by his bloodlust to the point that he ignored those rubbles who blocked its path.

After Herro shouted the words, he stared angrily at that crazy Mutant and again started to sneak away to avoid the M2's attack and to prepare for his surprise attack on M2.

With M2's abnormal speed, it reached where M2 last heard the sound of Herro's crash. It seems that M2 grew tired of using its arms and fists to smash things, so he used his right leg to kick. One shouldn't underestimate the kick of a Mutant, because it has the power to destroy even the greatest foundation of a building.

M2 was so confused and infuriated at the same time because he clearly heard how bad Herro had landed, but all he felt in his kick was some large chunks of concrete.

It focused all of its attention on hearing his surroundings. It even holds out its breath just to enhance its hearing ability.

Herro is not well-versed in the art of assassination and his movements are still audible and with a mutant's keen senses, Herro is bound to be discovered or to be heard.

Herro was slowly sneaking behind the M2, who was just standing in its place like a rock. Herro was like a certain can in a famous cartoon that is tiptoeing when they sneaked around. It was a show of a blue cat and a brown mouse.

M2 didn't move at all and Herro had already sneaked behind it. Herro found it weird, but he ignored it since the Mutant he is facing was just standing there like a statue.

'A chance!' Herro jumped again, as he did before and he wanted to attack the Mutant on its nape and cut off its spinal cord and killing it.

Herro was just a meter away from the M2 when M2 unexpectedly made a move and suddenly turned back. Herro clearly saw everything that happened with his two eyes. M2's finger had turned into claws and it used its claws to slash back at Herro who is flying towards it.

The question that was bugging Herro for a while was now answered. The Mutants had the ability to hide their claws. That is why M1 and M2 used their fists to assault Kira. Maybe they're underestimating her or it cost them their energy, but Herro's question was now answered.

Herro was startled by how things escalated so suddenly. He was right that something was off about the Mutant not moving at all. Herro used both of his claws to block the incoming claw from M2. But the force that M2 had exerted is clearly strong and since Herro is on mid-air, he was not able to use his lower body to exert his full force.

Herro's defense was broken so easily and M2's attack managed to cut his right arm. Herro has flown away like a baseball ball thrown by a professional player. But before Herro escaped M2's range of attack, M2 was still able to use its other claw to sever both of Herro's legs.

It happened all in an instant and Herro was thrown in a distance. He landed a few meters away from the corpse of the Mutant that he didn't finish absorbing.

M2 howled happily with its attack successfully landed and could incapacitate its enemy.

While M2 is happily howling in its victory. Herro had already lost his will to fight and he was just regretfully talking about things: "I hope Kira escaped those two Mutants successfully. I wi-- *cough*" Herro coughed some blood that was blocking his airway. "I wish I can fulfill that dream of mine—I really wanna experience it before I live this world."

Herro closed his eyes as he waited for the M2 to finish him off. After M2 howled it slowly walked towards Herro. He could locate Herro because Herro keeps on coughing up blood, blocking his airway.

His life flashes before his eyes. The happy memories he made while with his families and friends. "Ahhhhh, I have too many regrets in my life. *cough* I was given another chance, but *cough* I wasted it. I hope God will give me another chance, but *couch* I think that is too much."

Herro now felt his vision turned darker. But before he could close his eyes, he heard something that woke up his soul and fighting spirit.

"AHHHHHHHH!" Kira shouted, although it was faint because she's deep inside in the military base, Herro was still able to hear it because of the echo and his enhanced senses after absorbing one and a half Mutant's.

Kira's shout was filled with fear, it sounded like she was asking for some help. Herro was now filled with anger and his blood churned, causing him to cough a mouthful of blood.

"I will not give up!" Even though he knew that it was ultimately impossible to survive in his current situation, he felt that his soul will be filled with regret in hell if he surrendered now.

It was just fine if Herro surrendered. Everyone will understand him. He lost his right arm and also both of his legs. All that he had was his left hand and his trunk.

But after he heard Kira's pleading cry for help, he tried to roll so he would face the ground and crawl towards the direction where Kira's shout is. But when he rolled, he saw that the Mutant corpse he hadn't finished absorbing was just three meters away from him.

His heart was filled with excitement and hope. A chance! He started to crawl while using the claw of his left hand to pierce the ground. It was slow, but he will be able to reach it after a couple of seconds.

M2, who was slowly approaching Herro, suddenly howled again in laughter. Because M2 heard the last struggle of Herro. Although Mutants lost their sense to think rationally, they're still a human who had just mutated. These Mutants were still able to keep their human instinct and one of them is to laugh at their enemy when they see them struggling.

I am not saying that all humans are like this, but most of us like to laugh at someone's misfortune. For example, laughing at those videos on social media about someone falling off their chair, falling off a tree, and so on.

M2 could keep this mentality and was laughing when it heard Herro's desperate movement. He kept on laughing for some time and when it decided to start approaching Herro again, he was a little bit late and Herro reached his destination.

Herro shouted "Absorption!" And suction force appeared in his hands. But it was weaker than before. "Absorption!" He shouted those words again and but nothing happened. The suction force was still the same.

Herro felt his world crumble. He thought that he was given a chance to survive, but that chance was not a chance at all. It was just a thing that will make him experience how cruel reality is.

Without his three limbs, he couldn't fight back at all. But then again, he heard Kira's shout. It was louder than before and then followed by a loud explosion.

After Kira's shout, Herro felt so useless. He felt so angry not at the Mutants, but toward himself for being so useless and for letting a girl sacrifice herself for his sake.

He was groaning in pain and in anger, he wanted to vent it out, but fate left him no choice. But he didn't want to surrender that easily and a thought came into his head.

'Wait, what I am doing is absorbing, right? Naturally, a human absorbs nutrients through eating. Then.....' He gulped down his saliva while looking at the mutilated, dead Mutant. From his perspective, it looks like it was a burger steak that was flattened.

For Herro, that idea of his was the most appropriate thing he should have done. M2 was walking slowly towards him, slowly savoring its victory while inflicting fear at the dying Herro with its ground-shaking steps.

Herro shook his head and his eyes were filled with determination to survive, it was as if a fire had appeared in his eyes. Then he opened his mouth and bit at the flesh of the mutilated Mutant.

After biting it, he felt nothing. The suction force was not there, unlike in his hands, although it was weak, it was still there. He was about to cry in despair when a blue panel appeared in his eyes, saying, "Do you want to use absorption?"

Then hope was coming back to him and he was like a phone with a drained battery then and then the owner started charging it, he felt alive!

He then shouted "Yes!" And then the suction force appeared in his mouth. It was stronger than ever and yet it was the most disgusting thing that he would do in his life. It was disgusting because he could taste how a raw Mutant's meat tastes like. It was like a slice of meat seasoned in assorted bitter medicines, it was disgusting.

But He forced himself to endure it and then with the speed of his absorption, it only takes a couple of seconds to grow his limbs. He really feels like a fully charged phone after absorbing the Mutant because energy came back to his body. It was the effect after he absorbs vitality from his target, like what he did to charge his energy when he and Kira were running towards the Military base.

He stood up slowly while facing the ignorant Mutant who was walking slowly towards Herro. Then claws appeared in his hands. He faced the Mutant and he silently uttered the words, "It's time for my sweet revenge!"
