"Oh!" My mother beamed a bright smile as she walked up to me while dragging Wes along with her. She practically pushed him into me before turning to some guests who I was making small talk with.
"Mary, Dean," she smiled at the married couple. "I don't supposed you've met my daughters boyfriend. This is Wes."
Wes swung an arm around my waist, pulling me into his side. The move made my whole body tense.
Wes smiled and shook their hands but all I could do was drown out their conversation because the only thing I could focus on was Wes's hand resting on my hip. His arm around me, the feeling of him holding me close to his side.
This was all too much. Too confusing.
Why was I feeling so spun and flustered by all this? It was like I was so stunned and in-love with the little gestures he made but I shouldn't be because it was all for show.
I was reading far too into everything, forgetting that the reason Wes and I were so close and cuddly was because we had to convince everyone we were dating.
It was like growing close to someone and starting to admire them except with Wes, I couldn't go down that road because none of it was real.
"You two make a beautiful couple," Mary smiled at us.
Wes smiled, leaning down to kiss my cheek. "Thank you. We're very happy."
The lady made a few more comments before her and her husband headed off. I was about to step away from Wes when my mother appeared in front of the two of us.
She looked me up and down. "I must admit, you two do pair together very well."
My eyes went wide. "Seriously?"
She gave me a bland look, not impressed by my shock. "I was surprised you two have been on opposite ends of the room all night. Sure there's no trouble in paradise?"
And just like that, she was back to finding some sort of flaw.
I sighed, "Why would there be?"
She shrugged softly, swirling around her champagne in it's flute. "I've hardly seen a kiss shared all night, Fia. It's just a little strange because I know being at your age it's hard to keep your hands off each other."
My jaw dropped. "Mother! You should not be expecting that type of behaviour for me." I was stunned. Partially because I thought we had almost been caught. Partially because I cannot believe my mother.
"Must be all the guests around, ma'am." Wes offered my mom a small smile. "We just don't want to be inappropriate."
My mother narrowed her eyes on us for a long moment before she turned and headed away without a word. I didn't have the chance to say anything because Wes had stepped in front of me, taking hold of my hand as he looked at me.
"You're mom might be right," his voice was quiet.
My eyebrows pulled together. "About?"
Wes glanced around, making sure we weren't going to be overheard. "Your sister already has a lot to say about how Nate is very suddenly out of the picture. We don't want people noticing that we don't seem lovey enough."
I laughed, giving him an odd look. "What are you suggesting?"
He shrugged his shoulders softly, his cheeks tinging pink ever so slightly. "I don't know but let's... be more couple-y."
"How do you suggest that?" I tilted my head as I looked at him.
He glanced around before looking at me again, grinning mischievously. "Let's go."
I didn't have a moment to ask any questions because Wes had taken my hand and pulled me to the middle of the foyer. As if on cue, the slow ballad music had gotten louder.
He placed a hand on my waist, causing me to shiver from his touch that made my whole body feel like it was tingling. He brought up my hand, placing it on his shoulder and before I knew it, we were doing a slow waltz.
Within minutes, Adam and Mirah had joined in followed by multiple other couples. Quickly, the floor had turned into a slow dance or ballroom of sorts.
I looked up at Wes, quirking an eyebrow. "Now we're slow dancing?"
"Couples do that, right?" He grinned at me as he took a step closer so there was hardly any space between our bodies.
I sighed. I ignored the weird electric and mushy feeling that was taking over my body. I wrapped my arms around his neck, moving closer to lean my head down on his chest.
Wes swayed slowly to the music, both out bodies moving together in a perfect rhythm. We didn't say anything, we just slow danced while I listened to his heart beating and let myself be held by him.
The song started to come to an end. I looked up, peering at him. His eyes were already locked on me, gazing at me with soft and beautiful eyes that were dancing with emotion them-self.
"What?" I mumbled quietly.
Wes shook his head softly, a small smile resting carelessly on his face. He looked up, past me. "Eyes on us."
"Who?" I asked quietly.
He looked back down at me, pausing for a moment just to peer at me. "Your mom and Sage."
I sucked in a breath. "Great, both the skeptics." Sage always looked at me with her eyes narrowed, knowingly. The first day she was here she did ask a lot about Nate and was confused as to where Wes had come from.
"What do you want to do?" Wes asked me, his tone gentle.
I looked up at him, shrugging softly. "I don't know."
Wes nodded, not saying anything as he continued dancing with me. The song started to come to an end.
Wes let one hand off my waist. Before I could process what was happening, he had cupped one side of my face and tilted my head up so I would look at him.
My breath had vanished. "What are yo-"
Wes smiled ever so softly, like he was in the bliss of a peaceful dream. His thumb gingerly grazed small circles on my cheek.
Wes stepped in and closed the last of the space between us. My heart was racing a mile a minute, beating so hard that I knew he would feel it.
He leaned down and slowly placed his lips on mine, kissing me slowly and softly, tenderly like I was something delicate.
It took a second before I found myself pushing myself further against him, kissing him back more eagerly.
His lips moved against mine slow as ever, like each millisecond needed to be savoured. It was slow and sweet.
The kiss lingered for a moment longer, neither of us pulling back completely.
Finally, he did. He pulled back and looked down at me, his eyes swirling with emotions I could no read.
He smiled airily, his hand still cupping my face.
My breathing had gone heavy, taken aback by what just happened. I was frozen and completely struck, my face feeling so hot it could have melted right now. I just stared up at him with my mouth slightly agape, at a loss for a single syllable.
The song came to a stop and bodies started to clear up from the makeshift ballroom. Wes took my hand in his, guiding me away when I was still frozen in spot.
I didn't say anything as I followed him away, still feeling like I just got struck my lightning.
I let him pull my hand along with him. I reached up with my free hand, subconsciously rubbing my thumb over my lips that felt like they were tingling.
All of a sudden I felt light headed. Like all the air had been taken away from me and I was in a complete daze.
I didn't know what just happened. It was like I fell into a catatonic state from how stunned I was.
All I knew was that Weston Hamilton's lips on mine felt like the whole world had stopped spinning just for me.
