Etiquette

Our conversation was over when we finally reached the dining room. It's certainly a fancy dining room just like what I always saw in the movie before... But again, the Ineris Household probably had many important guests that came over so that's why they made this dining room look fancy.

As I was just about to sit down... Caen then pulled out the chair for me.

Does he expect me to sit down there? The chair-pull thing was already outdated and is no longer requisite in an etiquette sense. So there's no point-

'I forgot that this was a fantasy world that was probably still in the medieval age. Of course, this is still dated.'

I suppose I had no choice but to sit at that chair, as it would be kinda rude for me to pick another spot after Caen did that for me.

With that, I sat down there and said to Caen my thanks for doing that.

"It's my pleasure," Caen replied.

He then chooses to sit next to me which makes me kinda startle, I expected that Caen would sit rather far from me... But I guess it doesn't matter as this was their house after all so Caen could sit wherever he wanted to.

A few seconds later, Elina brings the dishes that she had to prepare for me. She then laid the dishes out on the table and saw the food. It somehow makes me want to gobble all of it up but I need to keep my manners in the dining room as it would be very inappropriate without the host's confirmation.

"I hope you like my cooking, Yei. It wasn't the best but it's edible at least..." Elina said that.

Did she really though? As I doubt that this was all her doing alone, surely Elina had some help from the maids. No way a girl like Elina, a noble-like person could cook... usually the one who prepares their meals would be their servant.

But who cares about that at the moment, all the thing I wanted to do was to eat.

"I am not a picky eater, as long as it is food. Then I would eat almost everything." I replied.

"That's good to hear, so please enjoy it."

Hearing that word, I quickly take the plate and take everything that looks delicious. As I am pretty hungry already, I didn't care about manners anymore as I ate hastily just to fill up my empty stomach.

Just like Elina said, the food wasn't that good as it tastes similar to the ones that I had in the inn before. But still, it's enough for me to satiate my hunger at the moment.

But when I was in the middle of eating, suddenly Caen picked up a spoon and tried to feed me the dessert.

'What is he doing?'

His actions confused me. Is Caen trying to do those lovey-dovey things that a couple always does? Nah... I don't think so. There's no way that Caen is that dumb, surely he realized that there's nothing between us. Besides, we just met each other so this probably-

Just a proper etiquette that this world had...

Yet it would not make any sense for that kind of etiquette to exist at all. As it serves no meaning at all. I just can't think of a reason why Caen is doing this right now.

"Big brother! What are you trying to do with my friends..." Elina said that towards her brother.

"Oh! This? I just want Yei to taste this magnificent desert... that's all." Caen then paused for a bit, "She had to taste this because I'm sure Yei would like this very much."

Is that Caen's reason?

Well, if that is the case, I will not hesitate to just eat it up then. As I am quite curious how it would taste, Caen did say that this food on the spoon was a magnificent desert...

I ate that dessert and just like what Caen said, it was indeed very delicious.

"You're right, this is delicious... who made-"

Before I could even say a word, I noticed that both of them gave me that weird look. As if I did something unusual or wrong...

Was I not supposed to eat that? There was silence for a few seconds until-

Elina then utters some words, "I am the one who made that..."

"Really? It's incredible!"

"I learned it from Ana... I still couldn't beat her cooking skills though." Elina said.

"Well this is good enough I think... for sure that you could still improve your cooking skills as time goes by."

Suddenly, Caen stands up from his chair as he said that had some paperwork to be finished so he would be leaving the dining room right now.

But I noticed that he was somewhat flustered when he said that... Don't know what happened to him all of the sudden.

With that, I simply waved my hands as a sign of goodbye to him as Caen rushed back to his room. So only Elina and I are left in this dining room.

"Is your brother always that busy?" I ask Elina.

"He does, there's a lot of things he needs to handle including father's work since father doesn't have the time to do it as he's quite busy with the knight's duty."

"I see, that must be really hard for him."

"There's no need for you to feel sorry about him, Yei. He's been doing that since a very early age so I think he has already gotten used to it..."

"Wait a moment, what's your mother's job as shouldn't she be supposed to be helping with that paperwork as well?"

"She should but just like my father, mother also was quite busy as she's the High Priest of Auslosha so she barely had the time to go back home..." Elina said that with a very sad face.

Seeing that, I realize that Elina might not have enough affection from her parents. As it seems like they're always busy with their work...
