Oiran Chronicles Part Two

"Alright! I'll tell you this once and only once, so you'd better listen up!"

Oiran's body tensed up as the Director-General yelled at the group of newly-fledged Valkyries. She had learned a few things in the three days she had been here- and the most important one of them by FAR, was, never to make eye contact with the Director-General. If you so much as looked at her, she would make your life a living hell. Oiran guessed that it was because she was ugly as fu-

"We're deploying to Yamagachi in approximately half an hour. If you're not back here, fully equipped and ready by the, you'll be considered an enemy on the battlefield- got it?!" We all instinctively saluted. "YES DIRECTOR-GENERAL, MA'AM!"

Oiran shuffled frantically, pulling on her uniform as quickly as possible to ensure she wouldn't be late. Cassia struggled to do the same, getting tangled in the sea of clothes that she had amassed on her head. Oiran walked over, doing her best to assist Cassia, loosening the wad of cloth around her neck, and allowing her to slip the shirt do her shoulders. As Oiran removed the shirt from Cassia's head, it revealed her sobbing face. She was crying uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face as she spoke incoherent gibberish. Oiran stroked her head, sitting her down, before lowering her head to Cassia's face. "Hey- don't worry. We'll be okay. I know the odds aren't in our favor, but I promise with all of my heart that we WILL make it out. You just have to trust me."

"...okay..." Cassia whispered, wiping away tears.

To Oiran's delight, they made it back in about fifteen minutes, and had time to spare- so the obvious choice was to throw bugs at a random child in the corner. The child shrieked as she ducked out of the way of a stinkbug, and yelled in protest. "Why...!?!" Oiran laughed, picking up a tarantula-

"Hey! Did I say you could slack off? If you're ready, stand at attention!" Oiran halted in fear, stumbling over her own words. "Y-yes Ma'am." Oiran once again stood at attention in the main barracks, adjacent to Cassia, who was just as terrified. Oiran sighed, as she thought that she had cheered Cassia up, but it was apparent that wasn't the case. Oiran really did do all she could to assure her that they would make it out alive, but the more that she said it, the less she herself believed it.

In about ten minutes, everyone was assembled in two adjacent lines, ready for deployment. The Director-General read off their instructions as she paced around the room. "Alright! This ain't no stealth mission, this ain't no ambush! You'll be dropped directly into an ongoing battle in east Yamagachi! You WILL fight until you or every single one of the enemy dies, you hear!?" She gestured to the random small child in the corner, who was holding a plate of sorts, that held what seemed to be jewelry. "All of you will be receiving one of these." She held up one of the items, which was a necklace with a glowing stone in the center. "These Yuga Necklaces will allow us to track your location at all times, and they will glow brighter the closer you are to this very barrack! I ain't repeating myself, so get moving!"

The Valkyries all saluted her, before heading out to the edge of the facility, where their mobility unit was waiting. It was a wide, steel structure with a large fan on top, reminiscent of a helicopter in war armor. On either side were two doors, which the two groups of Valkyries would enter through. Oiran sighed in relief as she was assigned too the same group as Cassia, who didn't seem any less terrified. They strapped their uniforms to the side of the vessel, and the Director-General yelled at them from inside the barrack. "Remember! You have but one law on that battlefield!" She suffered too the pilot l. "Now go win us a war!"

The edges of the strap that held Oiran in place dug into her shoulders as the vessel rocked side to side as it flew through the air. Cassia seemed to have calmed down, as she was now messing with her Yuga necklace, which gave Oiran a brief feeling of bliss- that was short-lived, as the vessel had just touched down in the center of the Yamagachi battlefield. Cassia's cries resumed as their ears were flooded with the sounds of war and suffering, screams and gunshots all around. The pilot pressed a button, and their straps were released, before they all lined up just as they were taught to, ready for battle. The doors slowly creaked open-

A round of shots rang through the air, and their entire front line had been shot down. The enemy had wasted no time- and they had probably been waiting for this. Oiran made no attempt to confirm Cassia this time, as she knew it wouldn't do anything this time. Oiran simply lined up behind her and whispered in her ear.

"When we get out there, you stay behind me, and you do not move. Got it?" Cassia flinched, before barely managing to cry out a response. "I-okay..."

Oiran approved out of the doors, fucking under rounds of fire. They had set up a turret in front of their vessel, and squadrons of Yamagachian soldiers had already begun to flood the area. Oiran scanned the area, looking for any possible gay in their defense, and eventually landed on a deserted trench. She looked behind herself and was relieved to find Cassia following her orders, trailing behind her.

Oiran vaulted into the trench and began looking for anything useful...

Wait.

Cassia.

Cassia was gone.

She was still out there.

Without hesitation, Oiran jumped out of the trench, gunning down a pair of Yamagachians that had followed them. Right in about a yard away, sure enough, Cassia was being restrained by three soldiers. They hadn't killed her though...

Oiran quickly dismissed this oddity and yelled it for her only friend. "CASSIA!! I'M COMING!!" Cassia screamed back, face covered in blood sweat, and tears. "OIRAN!! YOU HAVE TO RUN!!" Oiran wiped away tears. "I CAN'T! I-I PROMISED!!"

Cassia responded, now with authority. "OIRAN, YOU HAVE TO RUN! YOU HAVE TO RUN NOW!!"

Oiran hesitated, stepping forward then backward. The enemy was coming from all sides- she had no hopes of escaping if she stayed there longer.

"...Oiran...You have to go..."

Oiran turned away, sprinting. She couldn't see where she was going, her eyes closed with tears, but she had to run. She knew she had to. No matter how much she hated herself- she had to run.
