Chapter 184: Makima's Ability
The scene shifts to the other side, where Katana Man and the Snake Devil Reze are directing their allies to move Denji's body.
Although Denji has been cut in half, due to his fiend's unique physiology, Zhou Wenwei knows that he's still alive. After all, Denji had previously been dismembered into a dozen pieces and still managed to recover. This time, he's only been split into two, which shouldn't be a big deal.
As they struggle to move Denji's body, one of the lackeys suddenly senses something unusual. He stops in his tracks, feeling a strange unease.
"Hey! Hurry up and help move this!" Another companion, clearly annoyed, shouts at him.
Reze also notices the lackey's odd behavior and looks over at him.
Scratching his head, the lackey mutters, "I have a bad feeling about this..."
His ambiguous words leave the others puzzled.
"What are you spacing out for? Come help!" the impatient companion yells again.
"Hey! I really have a bad feeling!" the lackey suddenly shouts, now visibly panicked.
"Huh?" the impatient companion responds, confused.
Reze, equally perplexed, repeats, "A bad feeling?"
Then, in the next frame, the lackey who mentioned his bad feeling suddenly... explodes! Right where he stands, his body bursts into pieces, splattering blood everywhere. His clothes, however, remain relatively intact, falling to the ground stained with blood.
This shocking event terrifies Reze, Katana Man, and the remaining lackeys.
"Ahhhhhhh!" the previously annoyed lackey screams in terror.
Reze's eyes fill with fear as she grabs a walkie-talkie and urgently asks her other teammates, "E Squad! Have C Squad confirm again if Makima is truly dead!"
Based on Reze's reaction, could this be Makima's doing? Zhou Wenwei is instantly intrigued. Could Makima really kill someone from such a distance?
Just then, a voice comes over the walkie-talkie, "This is E Squad..."
But before he can continue, the lackey on the other end suddenly seems to collapse inward, his face caving in. Strangely, he doesn't appear to notice, continuing to report, "We've been unable to reach them since earlier."
Then he too explodes, and the sound of the explosion is transmitted through the walkie-talkie to Reze and Katana Man.
"That woman..."

The scene quickly shifts back to a temple where Makima, Tendo, and Kurose are standing in an open space.
Besides them, there are dozens of people kneeling behind Makima, all of whom have their eyes blindfolded. These, Zhou Wenwei deduces, must be the death row inmates Makima had Tendo and Kurose bring from the execution grounds.
Interestingly, even Tendo and Kurose, who are also Public Safety Devil Hunters, have their eyes covered, leaving only Makima standing at the forefront with her hands pressed together in a peculiar gesture.
Kurose, puzzled, asks Tendo, "Why do we have to cover our eyes too?"
"Makima is a Devil Hunter directly under the top brass," Tendo explains. "The devils contracted by such high-ranking hunters are not meant to be known by others."
Zhou Wenwei is taken aback. "So Makima isn't a fiend? She's a Devil Hunter, and her contracted devil is something extraordinary and incredibly powerful."
Most people had assumed Makima was a fiend like Power, but it turns out she's a Devil Hunter with a uniquely strong devil contract.
This revelation only heightens Zhou Wenwei's curiosity. What kind of devil has Makima contracted with that gives her such overwhelming power?
In the next panel, Makima gently approaches one of the death row inmates and softly says, "Repeat after me... Mishima Shuzo."
"Mishima... Shuzo..." The inmate obediently echoes her words.
Makima then makes the same hand gesture as before...
The scene shifts back to Katana Man and Reze.
Katana Man calls out to one of the lackeys, "Hey! Hurry and get him into the car!"
"Hey! Did you hear me? Mishima!"
But the lackey named Mishima, with a vacant expression, suddenly twists and contorts! With Makima's strange hand gesture, he explodes into a cloud of blood, just like his previous comrades. Simultaneously, the death row inmate who repeated the name slumps to the ground, lifeless.
Zhou Wenwei finally pieces it together. "Makima's ability is... to kill the person whose name is spoken by sacrificing another's life!"
Indeed, this is Makima's powerful offensive ability. By having a blindfolded person utter a name, Makima uses a specific hand gesture to crush the named individual into a pulp. The person who spoke the name also loses their life.
What's more, this is a long-range, unavoidable kill, which apparently can only be performed in a temple-like setting.
But this power... it's just too strong!
It's far more powerful than Aki's cursed devil's long nail weapon, which requires striking the target four times at close range.
Makima, on the other hand, only needs a death row inmate to utter a name. She can then twist the target into a bloody mess!
"With such an overpowered ability... no wonder it can't be revealed easily," Zhou Wenwei realizes.
Makima's power is terrifying. Even though she's using it to kill enemies, what if she decided to assassinate world leaders with it? The thought alone is terrifying.
But thankfully... Makima is the protagonist, a good person, a good woman...
On the other side, Reze and Katana Man are visibly shaken, utterly terrified. Their comrades have all been killed by Makima's ability.
How could they not be scared? They have no means of defending against such an attack!
However, after a while, the terrifying explosions cease.
"Has it stopped?" Reze says in disbelief.
"You can remove the blindfolds now," Makima tells Tendo and Kurose.
Finally, she faces the readers, saying, "I've done all I can. It's time to go back."
